- Access to essential medicines in Albania: a cross-sectional survey of availability, prices and affordability using the WHO/Health Action International (HAI) Global Core List. [Journal Article]BMJ Open. 2026 Aug 13; 16(8):e121273.BO
- CONCLUSIONS: Access to essential medicines in Albania appears to be primarily constrained by availability rather than affordability. Gaps in the availability of key antibiotics and asthma medicines highlight the need for targeted policy interventions, including improved procurement, supply chain management and rational use strategies to strengthen equitable access to essential medicines.

- Single-slice Functional Lung MRI During Metronome-Paced Tachypnea Detects Changes in Regional Ventilation Dynamics After a Single Dose of Dual Bronchodilator Treatment in COPD. [Randomized Controlled Trial]COPD. 2026 Dec; 23(1):2706659.COPD
- Dual long-acting bronchodilators are a standard treatment in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), aimed at alleviating dyspnea, improving exercise tolerance, and preventing exacerbations. Metronome-paced tachypnea (MPT) offers a feasible alternative to exercise testing for the evaluation of dynamic hyperinflation (DH) in COPD. Because MPT can be performed during MRI, its combination with…

- Chronic Cough With Reduced Diffusing Capacity and Preserved-Ratio Impaired Spirometry in a Young Never-Smoker With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Diagnostic Pitfall. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e114283.C
- Chronic cough in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus can be difficult to evaluate, especially when initial testing is unrevealing. We report the case of a 33-year-old woman with long-standing systemic lupus erythematosus, biopsy-proven lupus nephritis, prior extrapulmonary pericardial tuberculosis, and no active or passive smoking exposure who developed a persistent dry cough for six month…

- A Case of Progressively Worsening Dyspnea and Chronic Cough in a Patient With Known Bronchiectasis. [Case Reports]Chest. 2026 Aug; 170(2):e35-e38.Chest
- A 53-year-old Black woman was referred to the pulmonary clinic for progressively worsening exertional dyspnea over the past 3 years and a chronic nonproductive cough. She had a history of childhood asthma, with 2 prior hospitalizations, as well as an unspecified nasal surgery 20 years ago. She was diagnosed with bronchiectasis 10 years ago by her primary care physician and was compliant with airw…

- A synergy strategy of deep eutectic solvents and boric acid modified β-CD polymer for enhancing enantioseparation in HPLC. [Journal Article]Anal Chim Acta. 2026 Oct 08; 1418:345876.AC
- Enantiomeric separation is essential in pharmaceutical analysis because enantiomers can differ markedly in pharmacological activity, metabolism, and safety. HPLC using chiral mobile-phase additives (CMPAs), particularly cyclodextrin-based selectors, provides a flexible and cost-effective alternative to dedicated chiral stationary phases. However, conventional cyclodextrin CMPA systems are often l…

- Boronic acid-functionalized covalent organic polymer using Ugi reaction for the enrichment of salbutamol, ractopamine, terbutaline and ribavirin in feed. [Journal Article]J Chromatogr A. 2026 Sep 27; 1785:467323.JC
- Functionalized imine-linked covalent organic polymers (COPs) have attracted tremendous attention as adsorbent. At present, most imine-linked COPs are functionalized relying on benzene groups, limiting sufficient flexibility for grafting diverse functional groups. Herein, Ugi reaction is employed to flexibly anchor carboxylic acids and isonitriles with diverse molecular structures onto the imine b…

- Continuous Distillation for Drug Substance Manufacturing. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The application of continuous distillation offers a unique strategy for impurity removal during advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing and can be scaled to meet target throughputs. Here we provide general criteria necessary for successful implementation of similar continuous in-line distillation systems.

- Oral Albuterol for the Treatment of Rate-Dependent QT Prolongation and Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia. [Case Reports]JACC Case Rep. 2026 Aug 06; :109448. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Albuterol is an oral B1 agonist that may be repurposed for increasing heart rate in rate-related polymorphic VT, as in this case, and perhaps in cases of symptomatic sinus bradycardia.

- Association of Social Drivers of Health With Hospitalizations for Pediatric Asthma. [Journal Article]Pediatr Pulmonol. 2026 Aug; 61(8):e71775.PP
- CONCLUSIONS: Gender, race, language, chronic comorbidity, and preventive healthcare access are associated with emergency and repeat hospital use in pediatric asthma. Geographic context plays a meaningful role in patients' clinical disposition, but the geographic component driving this association is not meaningfully captured by any of the three SDOH indices studied.

- Effect of Albuterol on Compliance and Distensibility of the Trachea and Lungs. [Journal Article]J Appl Physiol (1985). 2026 Aug 01. [Online ahead of print]JA
- Tracheomalacia (TM), the most common abnormality of the pediatric trachea, results in dynamic expiratory airway collapse due to weakened cartilage and reduced smooth muscle tone. Although bronchodilators such as albuterol are widely used in children with wheezing, their impact on TM remains unclear, because prior studies have not simultaneously evaluated tracheal and lung mechanics in vivo. This …

- Probenecid enhances relaxation induced by cyclic adenosine monophosphate- and cyclic guanosine monophosphate-augmenting substances in rat prostate, bladder, and corpus cavernosum: a potential repurposing strategy. [Journal Article]Eur J Pharmacol. 2026 Aug 28; 1031:179197.EJ
- Prostate, bladder, and corpus cavernosum share common pathophysiological mechanisms involving smooth muscle tone regulation through cyclic nucleotide signaling, particularly cAMP and cGMP pathways. Probenecid, a classical uricosuric agent, has emerged as a candidate for drug repurposing due to its ability to inhibit multidrug resistance-associated proteins 4/5 (MRP4/MRP5), which mediate the cellu…

- Adrenaline and Salbutamol Rapidly Exert Mast Cell-Stabilizing Properties in Rat Peritoneal Mast Cells. [Journal Article]Cell Physiol Biochem. 2026 Jul 29; 60(4):376-385.CP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides novel in vitro evidence indicating for the first time that adrenaline rapidly exerts mast cell-stabilizing properties in a dose-dependent manner. Salbutamol also stabilizes mast cells at high doses, revealing its additive therapeutic efficacy in anaphylaxis management.

- Vibrating Mesh Nebulizer (A-VMN) Performance During Low-Flow Nasal Oxygen Therapy in Neonates. [Journal Article]Pharmaceutics. 2026 Jul 16; 18(7).P
- Background: Supplemental oxygen and aerosol therapy may be used simultaneously to treat neonates suffering from hypoxemia caused by respiratory diseases. Due to the cost and lack of availability of oxygen cylinders in some countries, oxygen concentrators are a reported substitute. We assessed whether an oxygen concentrator compared to low-flow oxygen therapy impacts neonatal aerosol drug delivery…
