- Perinatal Endocrine-Cardiac Axis: A Narrative Review of Long-Term Cardiovascular Risks in Women with Gestational Diabetes, Hypertensive Disorders, and Thyroid Dysfunction. [Review]Biomedicines. 2026 Jun 10; 14(6).B
- Purpose: To review the long-term cardiovascular risks associated with three common perinatal endocrine disorders-gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), and thyroid dysfunction (including postpartum thyroiditis)-and to identify opportunities for early risk stratification and prevention. Materials and Methods: We conducted a structured literature search of P…

- Longitudinal evaluation of recurrent thyrotoxicosis in a single patient across four pregnancies: a case report and literature review. [Case Reports]Endocrinol Diabetes Metab Case Rep. 2026 Apr 01; 2026(2).ED
- We report the case of a 37-year-old woman who presented with hyperemesis gravidarum at 11 weeks of gestation. Laboratory examination revealed severe thyrotoxicosis (TSH: <0.005 μIU/mL, FT3: 12.95 pg/mL, FT4: 3.93 ng/dL) with negative anti-TSH receptor antibody, while serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) was markedly elevated at 198,983 mIU/mL. She was diagnosed with gestational transient thyr…

- Multisystem challenges in reproductive medicine: A case report of bicornuate uterus, fibroadenoma, and postpartum thyroiditis. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case demonstrates that favorable reproductive outcomes are achievable even in the presence of significant uterine malformation and endocrine comorbidities when care is individualized and multidisciplinary. The temporal relationship between DMPA initiation and postpartum thyroiditis raises a clinically relevant question about progestin-triggered autoimmune thyroid dysfunction, warranting further study. Early imaging and endocrine profiling should be routine in women presenting with recurrent pregnancy loss.

- From Gut to Goiter: How Salmonella Gastroenteritis Causes Thyroid Abscess. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights a unique Salmonella thyroid abscess from hematogenous spread of infection in an immunocompetent individual. While thyroid abscesses, particularly those caused by Salmonella spp., are rare, clinicians should maintain a broad differential diagnosis, especially following gastrointestinal illness. FNA with culturing, imaging, and targeted antimicrobial therapy is crucial for timely diagnosis and favorable outcomes.

- Consequences of undertreatment of hypothyroidism. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Undertreatment of the preventable non-communicable disease hypothyroidism requires more focus both from caretakers in the healthcare system, but also from the global political systems in order to prevent the personally devastating and socioeconomically challenging consequences.

- [Treatment of hypothyroidism in childbearing age]. [Case Reports]Recenti Prog Med. 2022 Jun; 113(6):3e-6e.RP
- Thyroid diseases play a crucial role in conditions of infertility and recurrent miscarriages. We here reported a case of a 34 years old woman, affected by autoimmune thyroiditis with subclinical hypothyroidism. The patient previously had a miscarriage and she was planning another pregnancy. Therefore, she started levothyroxine (LT4) therapy. However, despite optimal TSH levels, she did not get pr…

- An update on thyroid disorders in the postpartum period. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Diagnosing postpartum thyroid dysfunction is challenging, because symptoms may be subtle. A team approach involving primary care providers, endocrinologists, and obstetricians is essential for transitioning thyroid care from the gestational to the postpartum setting.

- Selenium supplementation in the management of thyroid autoimmunity during pregnancy: results of the "SERENA study", a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: SERENA study demonstrated a beneficial effect of L-Se-Met supplementation on autoantibody titer during pregnancy and on postpartum thyroiditis recurrence.

- Management of a pregnant woman with thyrotropinoma: a case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: The overall positive outcomes of the four cases reported in literature, including this new case, suggest that pregnancy should not be absolutely contraindicated in women with thyrotropinomas. We emphasize the effectiveness of octreotide to control hyperthyroidism, as well as stopping medication when a patient is found to be pregnant. In our case, close observation following octreotide cessation had a positive outcome.

- Recurrent Episodes of Thyrotoxicosis in a Man following Pregnancies of his Spouse with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. [Journal Article]
- Over an 8-year period, a male patient presented three times to an endocrinologist with strikingly similar presentations, including palpitations, anxiety, and tremors. Each of his presentations occurred following either the birth of one of his two children or his wife's late termination of pregnancy. This patient's illness followed the typical time course of silent thyroiditis: hyperthyroidism, fo…

- Recurrent silent thyroiditis as a sequela of postpartum thyroiditis. [Journal Article]
- Thyroiditis encompasses a group of disorders characterized by thyroid inflammation. Though clinically indistinguishable from silent thyroiditis, postpartum thyroiditis occurs in women within 12 months after delivery. Recurrent postpartum thyroiditis in subsequent pregnancies is common, but recurrent silent thyroiditis is rare. We reported a case of patient with recurrent episodes of thyroiditis, …

- Effect of antithyroid antibodies on ICSI outcome in antiphospholipid antibody-negative euthyroid women. [Journal Article]
- Antithyroid antibodies (ATA) are found in 5-15% of women at reproductive age and are not necessarily accompanied with thyroid dysfunction. ATA are associated with adverse effects such as spontaneous miscarriage, recurrent miscarriages, preterm delivery and maternal post-partum thyroiditis in women with normal thyroid hormone concentrations. The role of ATA on the outcome of IVF cycles remains to …

- Increased thyroid autoimmunity among women with multiple sclerosis in the postpartum setting. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Considering the tendency of MS mothers to develop thyroid autoimmunity postpartum and in association to treatments, we recommend screening MS patients for thyroid dysfunction (TSH) during early pregnancy and after delivery.

- Significance of (sub)clinical thyroid dysfunction and thyroid autoimmunity before conception and in early pregnancy: a systematic review. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism or thyroid antibodies have an increased risk of complications, especially pre-eclampsia, perinatal mortality and (recurrent) miscarriage. Future research, within the setting of clinical trials, should focus on the potential health gain of identification, and effect of treatment, of thyroid disease on pregnancy outcome.

- [Thyroid disorders during pregnancy]. [Review]
- Thyroid disorders may not only be the cause infertility but also increases the incidence of miscarriages and the morbidity of the pregnancies. During pregnancy the demand of thyroid hormones increases to about 30 - 50 % and the thyroid has to cope with this increase. In Germany the iodine intake has improved significantly during the last 20 years, but still is borderline low with an mean intake o…
