- CONCLUSIONS: POS significantly improved mesopic low-contrast best-corrected distance visual acuity in subjects with reduced mesopic vision and dim light disturbances of varying etiologies, including post-keratorefractive patients. Treatment-emergent adverse events were predominantly mild and transient. These findings suggest POS may warrant further clinical investigation as a potential pharmacologic approach for patients experiencing dim light disturbances associated with reduced mesopic low-contrast visual acuity and photic symptoms.

- A Descriptive Overview of Deviations From an Institutional Peripheral Vasopressor Protocol and Its Effects on Safety Across an Academic Health System. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Deviations from a peripheral vasopressor protocol primarily involved exceeding the protocol dose limit in the setting of worsening shock while awaiting central access. Clinically significant extravasations were infrequent even among patients with protocol deviations and most treated extravasations occurred in protocol-concordant patients, supporting the overall safety of peripheral vasopressors.

- CONCLUSIONS: Under in vitro conditions at room temperature (25 ± 1 °C) with natural light exposure, admixtures of phentolamine mesylate (0.1 or 0.5 mg·mL[-][1]) and furosemide injection (0.5 or 1.0 mg·mL[-][1]) prepared via dilute mixing in either 0.9% NS or 5% GS remained physicochemically stable for up to 8 h. The findings are only valid for the specific experimental parameters in this work and cannot be generalized to routine off-label combined administration in pediatric critical care.

- CONCLUSIONS: Although WALANT is recognized as a very safe procedure, ischemic complications can occur in hand surgery in rare cases. The present study shows an insufficient level of knowledge regarding the antidote phentolamine in the treatment of ischemic complications associated with the WALANT technique. Users of the WALANT technique must be familiar with the procedure and its potential risks in order to be able to respond appropriately in an emergency. Even rare complications may, in case of doubt, lead to functional impairment and medikolegal consequences, particularly when phentolamine is not available. We therefore recommend always maintaining a stock of phentolamine and providing regular training sessions to ensure optimal patient safety.
