- Loss of Vacuole Membrane Protein 1 Protects Against Acetaminophen-induced Liver Injury by Modulating Inflammation and Hepatocyte Proliferation. [Journal Article]Toxicol Sci. 2026 Sep 09. [Online ahead of print]TS
- Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose is a leading cause of severe liver injury and acute liver failure (ALF). Increased hepatic macrophages promote inflammation and clear necrotic cell debris, thereby promoting a regenerative state for liver repair during APAP-induced liver injury. Vacuole membrane protein 1 (VMP1) is an ER transmembrane protein essential for autophagy. Deletion of VMP1 in the liver imp…

- Fetal exposure to paracetamol is associated with altered markers of ovarian development and reduced uterine volume in girls: the COPANA study. [Journal Article]Hum Reprod Open. 2026; 2026(3):hoag073.HR
- CONCLUSIONS: Mild to moderate doses of prenatal paracetamol exposure, assessed by detailed maternal reports and urinary measurements, are associated with ovarian morphology and activity as well as reduced size of estrogen-responsive tissues in infant girls. The observational design of the study allows evaluation of exposure outcome associations, while the causality interpretation is supported by consistency with experimental models demonstrating comparable effects. Residual confounding by indication for paracetamol use cannot be completely excluded, although the results were robust after accounting for fever and other maternal factors. The analytic design of the current study limited our ability to evaluate whether frequency or patterns of paracetamol use influenced the observed associations. In this prospective cohort study of infant girls, prenatal exposure to paracetamol was associated with differences in several markers of ovarian development, including ovarian volume, follicle number, and circulating AMH, as well as uterine volume and breast tissue diameter. The associations with reduced ovarian and uterine size were also observed in a confirmatory cohort followed to adolescence. Whether these early-life differences have long-term clinical relevance, including effects on reproductive lifespan, remains uncertain and requires analyses in studies with extended follow-up.

- Pain Management During Neonatal Blood Sampling: An Overview of Systematic Reviews. [Review]Paediatr Neonatal Pain. 2026 Sep; 8(3):e70044.PN
- This overview of systematic reviews aimed to identify effective pain management strategies for neonatal blood sampling. Searches were conducted in four databases from 2014 to April 2026. Eligible studies were systematic reviews including randomized or quasi-randomized controlled trials assessing pain management in neonates during blood sampling. Reviews were required to have searched at least two…

- The interaction between paracetamol and ethanol during the early development of zebrafish. [Journal Article]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1858736.FP
- The issue of drug-alcohol interactions is a major concern in drug therapy and can endanger patient safety. Paracetamol is one of the most widely used analgetic drugs, while ethanol is commonly consumed addictive substance. This study investigated the toxic effects of paracetamol, ethanol, and their mixture at different concentrations on the embryonic development of zebrafish (Danio rerio, D. reri…

- High-Dose Caffeine Mouth Rinse Is an Effective Strategy for Isokinetic Strength Generation in Soccer Players. [Journal Article]J Hum Kinet. 2026 Jul; 103:107-120.JH
- Caffeine supplementation is one of the most commonly used ergogenic aids among soccer players. However, research shows conflicting results regarding the effects of different caffeine forms on muscle strength and power. This study investigated the impact of a high-dose caffeine mouth rinse on isokinetic knee extensor and flexor strength of the dominant leg at high (180°/s-1) and low (60°/s-1) angu…

- Hand-Held Raman Spectroscopy for Paracetamol Assay in Solution for Infusion: Expanding the Capabilities of Process Analytical Technologies. [Journal Article]AAPS J. 2026 Sep 08; 28(5).AJ
- Currently, the manufacture of injectable drug products relies on a quality-by-test approach, where product quality is evaluated at fixed manufacturing steps. The introduction of the quality-by-design approach, supported on process analytical technologies (PAT) is changing this paradigm. The US Food and Drug Administration established the foundations for the application of PAT in real-time control…

- Caffeine pollution changes anti-predator behaviour in Gammarus pulex similarly to manipulative parasites. [Journal Article]Biol Lett. 2026 Sep 09; 22(9).BL
- Caffeine is an emerging environmental contaminant in freshwater ecosystems that is primarily introduced through wastewater. Even at low concentrations, caffeine can affect the physiology and behaviour of aquatic organisms. Still, its ecological significance remains little understood. We examined the impact of environmentally relevant caffeine concentrations on the anti-predator behaviour of the f…

- Expressions of Pain and Spasticity in People With Stroke. [Journal Article]J Neurosci Nurs. 2026 Sep 09. [Online ahead of print]JN
- CONCLUSIONS: Poststroke pain is inextricably linked to spasticity, with the latter serving as a foundational trigger. The commingling nature of these symptoms and the identified temporal surges suggest that clinical management should prioritize early antispasticity interventions. Neuroscience nurses play a vital role in identifying these trajectories early to prevent chronic symptom escalation.

- Solasodine (SOL) is a steroidal glycoalkaloid that shows a wide range of biological effects, most notably anticancer activities. Eryptosis is the programmed cell death of erythrocytes that leads to anemia. Specifically, chemotherapy-induced anemia can be precipitated in part by eryptosis triggered by anticancer agents. We hypothesize that the cytotoxic effects of SOL observed in cancer cells are …
