- SGLT2 inhibitor-induced genitourinary infections and the consequent antimicrobial-antidiabetic drug interactions: A narrative review of clinical and pharmacovigilance concern. [Review]Diabetes Res Clin Pract. 2026 Oct 31; :113639. [Online ahead of print]DR
- Sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors provide cardiovascular and renal benefits in type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and heart failure, but their use is associated with genitourinary (GU) infections and medication-safety concerns during antimicrobial treatment. This narrative review integrate evidence regarding SGLT2 inhibitor-associated GU infections, antimicrobial-an…

- Proportion of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis among rifampicin-resistant cases evaluated using the GeneXpert MTB/RIF assay in Western China: A retrospective observational study. [Journal Article]J Int Med Res. 2026 Oct; 54(10):3000605261500319.JI
- ObjectiveDrug-resistant tuberculosis (TB), particularly multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB),tuberculosis, remains a significant public health problem in Western China. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of rifampicin and isoniazid resistance, including multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, and to assess the proportion of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis cases among those with rifampicin resistan…

- Prevalence of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis and its associated factors among patients with tuberculosis at Galkayo General Hospital, Puntland, Somalia: a facility-based cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis represents a substantial burden among patients with TB in Galkayo General Hospital. Close contact with TB cases, previous TB history, and treatment failure were significant predictors of RR-TB.

- MPT64 secretion as a viability-associated immunoassay readout for rapid phenotypic drug susceptibility classification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis: a proof-of-concept study. [Journal Article]J Antimicrob Chemother. 2026 Oct 06; 81(11).JA
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings provide proof of concept that the immunoassay-based MPT64-pDST can enable rapid phenotypic susceptibility classification for rifampicin, isoniazid and moxifloxacin. Further validation in larger isolate collections, including isolates with borderline phenotypes, is warranted.

- SaeRS Gene Expression Following Exposure to Olive Leaf-Mediated Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles in Multidrug-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings provide descriptive, isolate-specific evidence of transcriptional responses of saeR and saeS to sub-MIC ZnO-NP exposure in the four MDR S. aureus isolates examined and should not be generalized across S. aureus lineages. They do not establish direct SaeRS inhibition or reduction of virulence-associated phenotypes because only four isolates were assessed and no extract-only, Zn[2+], chemically synthesized ZnO-NP, downstream virulence, protein-level, or functional controls were included. Larger controlled studies are required before biological or therapeutic implications can be drawn.

- Brucella abortus RB51 vaccination: a comprehensive systematic review of safety, efficacy, and global field outcomes (1990-2025). [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: RB51 preserves DIVA capability and induces cell-mediated immunity under ideal conditions but carries significant risks, including vaccine-induced abortion, milk shedding, and incomplete cross-protection. Its safety and effectiveness are highly context-dependent, performing well in low-prevalence countries with robust test-and-slaughter programs but failing in high-endemicity settings where pregnant adults are routinely vaccinated. Strict contraindication of RB51 in pregnant animals, pasteurization of dairy products from vaccinated herds, and complementary use of species-specific diagnostic tests are urgently needed. RB51 should not be used as a stand-alone intervention, and its continued use in endemic regions with mixed Brucella species requires re-evaluation.

- Targeted Nanopore Sequencing for Molecular Characterization of First-Line Drug Resistance and Treatment Outcomes Among Patients in the Republic of Congo. [Journal Article]
- Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global public health concern, further complicated by the emergence and transmission of drug-resistant strains. Diversity within the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) may also influence disease progression and treatment response. We conducted a longitudinal study among 126 Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra-confirmed TB patients enrolled and followed at the Antituberculo…

- Metabolomics Reveals Shugan Formula Attenuates Anti-Tuberculosis Drug-Induced Liver Injury via Multi-Pathway Metabolic Reprogramming in Rats. [Journal Article]Biomed Chromatogr. 2026 Dec; 40(12).BC
- Shugan Formula (SGF) shows clinical hepatoprotective effects, but its mechanism against anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury (ATB-DILI) remains unclear. This study employed LC-MS/MS-based metabolomics to investigate SGF's protective effects in rats. ATB-DILI was induced by oral isoniazid and rifampicin (100 mg·kg[-1] each) for 14 days. During modeling, the rats in the treated groups receiv…

- Proteomic Insights into Antibiotic Resistance and Biofilm Adaptation of Staphylococcus epidermidis to Subinhibitory Levofloxacin, Rifampicin, and Combination Treatment. [Journal Article]
- Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms are inherently tolerant to antimicrobial treatment, contributing to the persistence and recurrence of biofilm-associated infections. In this study, we examined the phenotypic and proteomic responses of S. epidermidis ATCC 35984 biofilms following exposure to subinhibitory concentrations (1/8× MIC) of levofloxacin, rifampicin, and their combination. Our probe-stratified analysis and the resulting triage algorithm provide a practical framework for optimizing the management of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB). - Severe Inflammatory Response and Moderate Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) in an Immunocompetent Patient With Disseminated Tuberculosis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- An acute exacerbation in some tuberculosis (TB) cases can lead to widespread infection; this disseminated disease may progress when the body's immune response becomes dysregulated. Although rare, certain patients without obvious immune compromise can develop severe organ dysfunction if inflammation escalates uncontrollably. Respiratory failure can develop rapidly once lung tissue becomes overwhel…
