- Targeting RANKL Prevents Bone Loss, Improves Muscle Function and Extends Lifespan in Progeroid Mice. [Journal Article]Aging Cell. 2026 Aug; 25(8):e70655.AC
- Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the early development of pathological features associated with aging, ultimately leading to premature death. HGPS primarily affects tissues of mesenchymal origin, as evidenced by the clinical manifestations characteristic of this premature aging disorder, including, but not limited to, osteoporosis, muscle was…

- Antegrade percutaneous retrieval of a retained metallic ureteral stent embedded in subcutaneous tissue: A practical fluoroscopy-guided approach. [Case Reports]Radiol Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 21(10):5037-5042.RC
- Metallic ureteral stents provide excellent resistance to extrinsic compression, allowing for prolonged indwelling times; however, their extraction can be complicated by tissue ingrowth and mechanical failure. We report a complex case of a 33-year-old male with a history of bladder exstrophy, a Mitrofanoff appendicovesicostomy, and chronic kidney disease who underwent an antegrade percutaneous exc…

- Pupil size reveals the perceptual quality and effortless nature of synesthesia. [Journal Article]Elife. 2026 Aug 04; 15.E
- Synesthesia describes cross-over processes that can generate 'extra' conscious percepts, such as seeing additional color when reading numbers. While existing research focuses on the mechanisms and effects of synesthetic associations, it often overlooks its most distinctive feature: unique sensory phenomenology. Here, we introduce pupillometry as an objective physiological measure of synesthetic c…

- Therapeutic management of axial spondyloarthritis: summary of 2024 update of the Spanish clinical practice guideline (ESPOGUIA). [Review]Ther Adv Musculoskelet Dis. 2026; 18:1759720X261464260.TA
- Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease associated with significant morbidity and impaired quality of life. Rapid advances in diagnosis, monitoring, and especially treatment over the past decade have increased the complexity of axSpA management and contributed to variability in clinical practice. To address this need, the Spanish Society of Rheumatology (SER) h…

- STABILITY 2: A protocol for a randomised trial in orthopaedic surgery to determine whether anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using a patellar or quadriceps tendon autograft with or without lateral extra-articular tenodesis is more effective at reducing the incidence of recurrent instability in young, active athletes. [Randomized Controlled Trial]BMJ Open. 2026 Jul 29; 16(7):e120915.BO
- Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) is complicated by high failure rates in young, active individuals, which is associated with worse outcomes and higher rates of osteoarthritis (OA). Failure of ACLR limits activity, reduces quality of life and substantially increases socio-economic costs. Thus, strategies to reduce ACLR failure are imperative. In the STABILITY 1 trial, we showed tha…

- Patient-reported Outcomes and the Use of Bone Grafting in Distal Radius Osteotomy for Malunion Correction: A Systematic Review. [Journal Article]J Wrist Surg. 2026 Aug; 15(4):386-394.JW
- Distal radius fractures (DRF) account for up to 18% of adult fractures, with malunion occurring in up to 25% of conservatively managed cases and 10% of surgically managed cases. Symptomatic malunion can lead to significant morbidity, including loss of forearm rotation, adaptive carpal instability, and arthritis. Corrective osteotomy is a key surgical intervention, yet there is no consensus on the…

- Knee ligament reconstruction reinforced with FiberTape®: Versatility in indications and safety profile of 381 cases with a mean follow up of 8 years. [Journal Article]Knee. 2026 Jul 24; 62:104571. [Online ahead of print]KNEE
- CONCLUSIONS: Knee ligament reconstruction with high-strength suture tape reinforcement yields a safe graft-suture construct that translates into favourable clinical outcomes for both intra-articular and extra-articular ligament surgery, with a very low complication rate including a low graft rupture rate.

- Self-Assembled Microscale Redox Reactor for Energy-Neutral Uranium Sequestration in Highly Acidic Wastewater. [Journal Article]Langmuir. 2026 Jul 28; 42(29):21685-21695.L
- Highly soluble and mobile U(VI) renders rare-earth tailing uranium wastewater hard to remediate. Conventional reduction treatments demand extra energy, and show weak removal efficiency in strongly acidic conditions, restricting their practical application. Herein, we present a rationally engineered, self-assembled phytate-Fe-polyaniline (PA-Fe-PANI) composite that functions as an autonomous micro…

- T2-mapping MRI Detects the Anaerobic Threshold for Flexion and Extension of the Wrist: Potential Use in Setting Rehabilitation Strength Targets. [Journal Article]Prog Rehabil Med. 2026; 11:20260037.PR
- CONCLUSIONS: Vertical direction exercise without extra weight can provide a minimum exercise strength that is higher than the anaerobic threshold. T2-mapping MRI is useful for setting exercise strength targets in the physical rehabilitation of small muscles.

- Dentin Bonding Performance, Nanoleakage, and Micromorphological Characteristics of Universal Adhesives in Self-etch Mode: Comparative Evaluation. [Journal Article]Eur J Dent. 2026 Jul 15. [Online ahead of print]EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Based on the extracted results, UA bonding performance was material dependent. The number and depth of resin tags were found to correlate with bond strength, whereas nanoleakage patterns showed no such correlation.

- Food-Based Antioxidant Nutrition for Exercise Recovery and Training Adaptation: A Narrative Review and Conceptual Framework for Redox Signaling, Dietary Matrices, and Periodized Application. [Review]Nutrients. 2026 Jun 29; 18(13).N
- Exercise-induced reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) serve as crucial signaling molecules for training adaptation, mitochondrial biogenesis, and inflammatory resolution, rather than being mere markers of oxidative damage. Chronic or excessive high-dose antioxidant supplementation may suppress these vital redox-sensitive pathways. Consequently, this narrative review examines food-based ant…

- Electromyographic biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle training for female stress urinary incontinence: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1789923.FM
- CONCLUSIONS: The addition of EMG-BF to PFMT provides small but statistically significant improvements in symptoms and quality of life (QoL) compared with PFMT alone, with a greater benefit observed for pelvic floor muscle strength. This supports the use of select, rather than regular, use of EMG-BF-particularly in those who have difficulty recognizing the correct contraction of the PF, and/or need extra structure at the beginning.

- Surgical Management of Distal Radius Malunion: An Exploratory Network Meta-Analysis of Surgical Approaches. [Systematic Review]J Hand Surg Asian Pac Vol. 2026 Aug; 31(4):349-361.JH
- Background: Symptomatic malunion following distal radius fracture can adversely impact wrist function. Corrective osteotomy, utilising volar, dorsal or dual approaches, is a common treatment option. This study aimed to review the literature and compare the outcomes of these different surgical approaches. Methods: A systematic review adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and…
