- Comparison of the Sensitivity of Histopathological and Immunohistochemical Analyses With That of Serum Hormone Measurements for Early Detection of Antithyroid Effects in Rats Treated With Iodide Uptake Inhibitors. [Journal Article]J Appl Toxicol. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]JA
- Serum thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) measurements are widely used to detect antithyroid effects in rodent toxicity studies. However, the assays used to measure these hormones are costly and highly variable depending on the blood sampling and measurement conditions. We previously demonstrated that histopathological evaluation detects the effects of thy…

- Photoinduced EDA-complex-mediated late-stage C-H iodination of arenes using aryldibenzothiophenium salts under air. [Journal Article]
- We report a visible-light-driven, metal-free iodination of arenes using aryldibenzothiophenium (Ar-DBT) salts and potassium iodide. This transformation operates efficiently under air with KI as the optimized iodide source, forming an electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex that generates aryl radicals upon visible-light irradiation. This protocol exhibits broad functional group tolerance across ele…

- Power-response fingerprinting reveals probe-dependent scaling and a productivity-efficiency trade-off in a high-frequency sonoreactor. [Journal Article]Ultrason Sonochem. 2026 Sep 29; 134:108086. [Online ahead of print]US
- Chemical dosimetries are widely used to characterize acoustic cavitation, yet their signals are often treated as interchangeable measures of a single radical yield. The unresolved question is whether differences among these signals remain as fixed assay-specific offsets or change systematically when acoustic power is varied. Here, power-response fingerprinting (PRF) is introduced as a probe-aware…

- ROS function during the early phase of vascular regeneration in Arabidopsis. [Journal Article]Plant Cell Physiol. 2026 Sep 24. [Online ahead of print]PC
- When vascular tissues are damaged, plants induce site-specific formation of vascular stem cells that proliferate and differentiate into xylem and phloem, restoring vascular continuity. In addition, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are rapidly generated at wound sites in response to damage. However, the role of ROS during vascular regeneration remains largely unknown. Here, we investigated the role o…

- Refractory Graves' Disease With Propylthiouracil-Induced Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis and Multiple Drug Allergies Treated With Total Thyroidectomy: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Graves' disease can be managed with antithyroid drugs (ATDs), radioactive iodine (RAI), or surgery. When ATDs are ineffective or poorly tolerated, RAI or surgery may be indicated. Methimazole (MMI) and propylthiouracil (PTU) are commonly used, sometimes with adjunctive agents such as potassium iodide (KI), β-blockers, or corticosteroids. Although ATDs are essential in management, rare but severe …

- Graves disease complicated by agranulocytosis and thrombocytopenia in a 12-year-old girl. [Case Reports]
- Graves disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism in children. Although neutropenia and thrombocytopenia have been reported in adults with untreated Graves disease, these complications are rare in children. Here, we report a pediatric case of Graves disease complicated by agranulocytosis and thrombocytopenia at diagnosis. A 12-year-old girl presented with increased appetite, irritability…

- Matrix Metalloproteinases Inhibitory Effects of Silver Diamine Fluoride: Influence of Time and Potassium Iodide, In Vitro. [Journal Article]Int J Paediatr Dent. 2026 Sep 18. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In this in vitro model, SDF demonstrated strong MMP inhibition, while SDF + KI showed lower numerical inhibition, suggesting that KI may attenuate the anti-MMP effect of SDF. SDF and SDF + KI produced similar increases in surface microhardness of non-cavitated enamel lesions.

- Chloride-dependent mechanisms contribute to urinary bladder smooth muscle contractility: Pharmacological and molecular evidence from rat bladder tissue. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The present study provides pharmacological and molecular evidence supporting a contributory role of chloride-dependent signaling in bladder SM contractility under ex vivo conditions. Expression of ClC-3 and CLCA4 in urothelial and SM layers further suggests that chloride-dependent regulation may involve multiple bladder compartments. Although the precise molecular mechanisms remain incompletely defined, these findings support further investigation into chloride-dependent signaling pathways in bladder physiology and dysfunction.

- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed®): Iodine [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed®). National Institute of Child Health and Human Development: Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- Iodine is an essential trace nutrient for all infants that is a normal component of breastmilk. Infant requirements are estimated to be 15 mcg/kg daily in full-term infants and 30 mcg/kg daily in preterm infants.[1] Breastmilk iodine concentration correlates well with maternal urinary iodine concentration and may be a useful index of iodine sufficiency in infants under 2 years of age, but there i…
- Sediment-associated natural radionuclide and radiological risk indicators in a tropical river estuarine system. [Journal Article]Environ Monit Assess. 2026 Sep 12; 198(10).EM
- Sediments in river estuarine systems facilitate the long-term accumulation of naturally occurring radionuclides, playing a critical role in controlling their environmental distribution and potential radiological exposure pathways. This study presents a gamma-spectrometric assessment of natural radionuclides ([40]K, [238]U, and [232]Th) in estuarine sediments within a tropical river system where b…

- Reductive Deoxygenation of Aromatic Aldehydes and Ketones with Boron Triiodide. [Journal Article]
- Deoxygenation of carbonyls is an area of value in synthetic transformations because it allows for the traceless utilization of carbonyl chemistry, a mainstay in synthetic manipulations. Since oxygenation patterns are common in biological settings, deoxygenation can also be used to valorize biologically derived feedstocks. Herein, we describe the use of potassium borohydride and iodine, two common…
