  • Women's Health Considerations in Eosinophilic Esophagitis. [Journal Article]
J Allergy Clin Immunol Pract. 2026 Aug 24. [Online ahead of print]Huang J, Hsu Blatman KS, … McGowan ECJA
  • While eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is traditionally recognized as a male-predominant disease, its distinct presentation, underlying biology, and management in female patients warrant closer examination. Differing gene profiles between sexes and sex-specific genetic loci associated with disease development have been identified. Estrogen has been shown to have a protective role in EoE development…
  • Effect of Thickener Rheology on Bolus Cohesivity in Dysphagia Management. [Journal Article]
    J Texture Stud. 2026 Aug; 57(4):e70107.Stading M, Eckardt JJT
  • Dysphagia caused by dysfunction is commonly managed by thickened beverages, yet fluids with similar viscosity may differ markedly in terms of swallowing safety. This study investigates how thickening mechanisms such as viscosity level, elasticity, and shear-thinning affect bolus cohesivity and aspiration risk. Model fluids with identical shear viscosity at 50 s[-1] of 0.15 Pa s and IDDSI level 2 …
  • Assessment and diagnosis of Paediatric Feeding Disorder: A scoping review of assessment tools and psychometric properties. [Review]
    Int J Speech Lang Pathol. 2026 Aug 16; :1-13. [Online ahead of print]Wanless R, Claessen M, … Smart SIJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Diagnosis of Paediatric Feeding Disorder requires use of feeding assessments with the strongest psychometric evidence to comprehensively assess all four Paediatric Feeding Disorder domains. Assessments should incorporate parent-reported and clinician assessment to synergise caregiver perspectives with clinical expertise. Further research is needed to enhance reliability and validity testing of paediatric feeding assessments to form a comprehensive Paediatric Feeding Disorder diagnosis.
  • Fetus-in-fetu arising from the palate treated with ex-utero intrapartum treatment. [Case Reports]
    BMJ Case Rep. 2026 Aug 13; 19(8).Suzui R, Sato H, … Kakui KBC
  • Epignathus, a teratoma arising from the palate or pharynx, is extremely rare and palatal fetus-in-fetu represents an even rarer anomaly. We report a prenatally diagnosed palatal fetus-in-fetu successfully managed with ex utero intrapartum treatment (EXIT). A 4 cm oral mass detected at 23 weeks caused polyhydramnios and gastric shrinkage, suggesting impaired swallowing and potential airway obstruc…
  • The polypharmacy-xerostomia-nutrition triad: the clinical framework for older adults. [Review]
Front Dent Med. 2026; 7:1900412.Lowenstein A, Singh ML, Papas AFD
  • CONCLUSIONS: The polypharmacy-xerostomia-nutrition triad represents a tractable but systematically under-addressed pathway to preventable malnutrition and functional decline. Interprofessional screening, patient-centered salivary management strategies, and expanded dental benefit coverage are urgently needed.
  • On-Demand Hospital Manufacturing of Baclofen Lozenges Using Pharmaceutical 3D Printing. [Journal Article]
    Pharm Res. 2026 Aug 11. [Online ahead of print]Grandal-Gonzalez D, Bendicho-Lavilla C, … Goyanes APR
  • CONCLUSIONS: This research describes the first successful implementation of an automated blister-filling workflow using a pharmaceutical 3D printer within a hospital pharmacy setting, spanning from manufacturing and dispensing to direct patient administration. The automated approach provides a significant advancement in personalized medicine, ensuring safer, more accurate, and efficient treatment options for patients with specific needs like dysphagia.
