- Evidence for an inflammatory contribution to cutaneous microvascular endothelial dysfunction in non-Hispanic Black women. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2026 Oct 01; 331(4):H1297-H1306.AJ
- Non-Hispanic Black (NHB) adults demonstrate impaired microvascular endothelial function, characterized as reduced nitric oxide (NO)-mediated vasodilation, compared to non-Hispanic White adults. A sexual dimorphism exists, where microvascular dysfunction is mediated through elevated superoxide generation in NHB men but not NHB women. Inflammatory mechanisms in NHB women may contribute, but these m…

- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Salsalate [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- Salsalate has not been studied during breastfeeding, but salsalate results in salicylic acid in the blood. Salicylic acid and aspirin have been studied during breastfeeding. The excretion of salicylate into breastmilk increases disproportionately as the maternal dosage increases. Long-term, high-dose maternal aspirin ingestion probably caused metabolic acidosis in one breastfed infant. Reye's syn…
- Salsalate negatively impacts microvascular function in women with endometriosis. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- Women with endometriosis, an inflammatory disease, are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and demonstrate impaired microvascular endothelial function, characterized by reduced nitric oxide (NO)-mediated vasodilation. In some clinical cohorts, nuclear factor-kappa B (NFκB) inhibition with salsalate improves endothelial function. We hypothesized that salsalate would improve cutaneous micro…

- Inhibition of nuclear factor-κB activation improves non-nitric oxide-mediated cutaneous microvascular function in reproductive-aged healthy women. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- The transcriptional regulator nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) is a mediator of endothelial dysfunction. Inhibiting NF-κB with salsalate is used to investigate inflammatory mechanisms contributing to accelerated cardiovascular disease risk. However, in the absence of disease, inhibition of NF-κB can impact redox mechanisms, resulting in paradoxically decreased endothelial function. This study aimed to m…

- Salsalate Improves Postprandial Glycemic and Some Lipid Responses in Persons With Tetraplegia: A Randomized Clinical Pilot Trial With Crossover Design. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this pilot trial, descriptive values indicate that salsalate decreased fasting and PP glucose response to fast-food meal challenge at regular intervals in persons with tetraplegia. Positive effects were also seen for some lipid but not for inflammatory response markers. Given the relatively "healthy" metabolic profiles of the participants, it is possible that salsalate's effects may be greater and more consistent in people with less favorable metabolic milieus.

- Salsalate and/or metformin therapy confer beneficial metabolic effects in olanzapine treated female mice. [Journal Article]
- Antipsychotic medications are used in the management of schizophrenia and a growing number of off-label conditions. While effective at reducing psychoses, these drugs possess noted metabolic side effects including weight gain, liver lipid accumulation and disturbances in glucose and lipid metabolism. To counter the side effects of antipsychotics standard of care has typically included metformin. …

- Salsalate: a pleotropic anti-inflammatory drug in the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and metabolic diseases. [Review]
- Type two Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a rising epidemic. Available therapeutic strategies have provided glycaemic control via HbA1c reduction but fail to provide clinically meaningful reduction in microvascular and macrovascular (cardiac, renal, ophthalmological, and neurological) complications. Inflammation is strongly linked to the pathogenesis of T2DM. Underlying inflammatory mechanisms include…

- Preparation and Characterization of Salsalate-Loaded Chitosan Nanoparticles: In Vitro Release and Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Activity. [Journal Article]
- The controlled-release characteristic of drug delivery systems is utilized to increase the residence time of therapeutic agents in the human body. This study aimed to formulate and characterize salsalate (SSL)-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) prepared using the ionic gelation method and to assess their in vitro release and antibacterial and antibiofilm activities. The optimized CSNPs and CSN…

- Application of Computational Simulation Integrating Inhibition Kinetics for Detecting Tyrosinase Inhibitor: Salsalate Is a New Inhibitor. [Journal Article]Protein Pept Lett. 2022; 29(9):744-759.PP
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that salsalate is a potential anti-pigment drug via inhibition of tyrosinase activity and it might be applicable for dermatologic clinical application. Also, our study enlarges an insight into the salsalate drug application.

- Acute systemic inhibition of inflammation augments endothelium-dependent dilation in women with a history of preeclamptic pregnancy. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- Women who have had preeclampsia demonstrate microvascular endothelial-dysfunction, mediated in part by reduced nitric oxide (NO)-dependent dilation. Preeclamptic pregnancies are associated with elevated inflammation, and inhibition of inflammation attenuates endothelial damage in animal models of preeclampsia. However, it is unclear if inhibition of vascular inflammation improves endothelial func…

- Reducing acetylated tau is neuroprotective in brain injury. [Journal Article]
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the largest non-genetic, non-aging related risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). We report here that TBI induces tau acetylation (ac-tau) at sites acetylated also in human AD brain. This is mediated by S-nitrosylated-GAPDH, which simultaneously inactivates Sirtuin1 deacetylase and activates p300/CBP acetyltransferase, increasing neuronal ac-tau. Subsequent tau …

- CONCLUSIONS: SCI accelerates aortic AD and associated risk factors, and anti-inflammatory treatment may attenuate the impact of SCI on AD outcomes. PAIC's IL-1β, IL-6, TNFα, MCP-1, and CCL-5 may be effective predictors of AD.

- Sevoflurane-induced hyperglycemia is attenuated by salsalate in obese insulin-resistant mice. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These data show that salsalate can reduce sevoflurane-induced hyperglycemia in mice. This indicates that salsalate may represent a new class of therapeutics that, in addition to its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, may be useful to reduce perioperative hyperglycemia.

- Salsalate reverses metabolic disorders in a mouse model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease through AMPK activation and caspase-6 activity inhibition. [Journal Article]
- Salsalate, an ester formed by 2 salicylic acid molecules, has beneficial effect against metabolic disorders in clinical trials and in animal studies. This study focused on the mechanistic aspects of salsalate activity against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Using high-fat diet (HFD) fed mice, we showed that salsalate treatment decreased body-weight gains, reduced white adipose tissue m…
