  • First reported human Castellaniella defragrans bacteraemia: a case report. [Case Reports]
    Swiss Med Wkly. 2026 Sep 25; 156:5401.Nédellec M, Cerruti T, … Benmachiche MSM
  • Castellaniella defragrans is an environmental Gram-negative, non-fermenting β-proteobacterium that is not known as a human pathogen. Here, we report the first documented case of C. defragrans bacteraemia in an 82-year-old man with monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis, subsequently diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, who presented with fever, confusion and clinical signs of sepsis. Blood cult…
  • Coinfection of Pneumocystis jirovecii and Aspergillus fumigatus in the lung: A case report. [Case Reports]
Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 Sep 18; 105(38):e50705.He MH, Chen XL, Feng BTM
  • CONCLUSIONS: bronchoalveolar lavage combined with metagenomic next-generation sequencing enables rapid diagnosis of concurrent opportunistic pulmonary infections. Paradoxical radiographic worsening despite clinical improvement may suggest an immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome-like inflammatory response, although persistent or progressive infection cannot be excluded.
  • Phenotypic Effects of a Small Molecule CpxA Phosphatase Inhibitor on Uropathogenic Escherichia coli. [Journal Article]
ACS Infect Dis. 2026 Sep 11; 12(9):2995-3001.Stoorza AM, Carlson EE, Duerfeldt ASAI
  • Patients suffering from Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are faced with multidrug resistance and a lack of treatment options. An alternative strategy to traditional bactericidal drug design is to disarm pathogenic bacteria by targeting the regulation of virulence factors. Small-molecule CpxRA phosphatase inhibitor compound 26, hereafter referred to as Cpx26, has shown efficacy in a murine UTI mode…
  • Late-Onset Sepsis and Meningitis Caused by Elizabethkingia meningoseptica: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
    Infect Drug Resist. 2026; 19:633763.Liao S, Qiu S, … Tang XID
  • Elizabethkingia meningoseptica is a gram-negative bacillus. Increasing body of literature shows that opportunistic infections may be caused by this Gram negative bacillus in immunocompromised adults and neonates. We describe a case of a preterm neonate born at 33 weeks of gestation who presented with fever and reluctance to feed for two days at one month after birth. Initial laboratory tests of b…
  • Interventions for the eradication of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in people with cystic fibrosis. [Systematic Review]
Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2026 Aug 27; 8:CD009650.Lo DK, Jahnke N, … Supported by the Cochrane Cystic Fibrosis Review GroupCD
  • CONCLUSIONS: Early eradication of MRSA is possible in pwCF; evidence from one trial suggested active MRSA treatment may result in a higher proportion of MRSA-negative respiratory cultures after one month compared with observation. However, longer follow-up showed treatment may make little or no difference in the proportion of participants remaining MRSA-negative. One trial of nebulised antibiotics alone compared to placebo reported a decrease in MRSA CFUs with a higher antibiotic dose. The longer-term clinical consequences of any treatment option - in terms of lung function, mortality and cost of care - remain unclear. We judged the evidence to range from high to very low-certainty, due to potential biases from trial design, high attrition rates and small sample sizes. While early eradication of respiratory MRSA in pwCF may be possible, the currently available evidence does not demonstrate that routine treatment of respiratory MRSA in pwCF is effective. Research is needed to assess MRSA infection and treatment in the age of modulator therapies.
  • From Suppurative Inflammation to Fibrotic Remodeling in Cutaneous Nocardiopsis Infection. [Case Reports]
    Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2026 Oct 07; 115(4):721-723.Lin N, Huang K, Yang DAJ
  • In the present case report, a cutaneous infection caused by the rare actinomycete Nocardiopsis sp. TSRI0078 is described. A 77-year-old woman with a medical history of hypertension and diabetes presented with ulcerated purplish-red nodules on the lower extremities that had persisted for 3 months. A histopathological examination revealed infectious granulomas predominantly composed of neutrophils.…
