- Lipid and Corticosteroid Biomarkers Under the Influence of Bisphosphonates. [Journal Article]
- Detecting the use of bisphosphonates (BPs) in equine athletes is of interest to regulators and laboratories due to the threat to welfare issues for the potential to provide analgesic effects and manipulating bone structure. The detection of BPs in biological matrices is challenging due to erratic biological elimination and inconsistent analytical recoveries. Therefore, complementary approaches ar…

- Clinically relevant doses of tiludronate do not affect bone remodelling in pasture-exercised horses. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this model, tiludronate did not affect normal bone remodelling in the horse, despite repeat dosages.

- Retrospective Analysis of the Use of Tiludronate in Equine Practice: Safety on 1804 Horses, Efficacy on 343 Horses. [Journal Article]
- The objective of this retrospective study was to assess the safety and efficacy of a slow IV administration of 1mg/kg tiludronate in a large number of horses. Each horse that received at least one tiludronate-based treatment between 2006 and August 2019 at Virginia Equine Imaging or Fairfield Equine was included in the study. Concomitant medical treatments, preliminary nonsteroidal anti-inflammat…

- Effect of intravenous tiludronate disodium administration on the radiographic progression of osteoarthritis of the fetlock joint in Standardbred racehorses. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Tiludronate appeared to inhibit the radiographic progression of osteoarthritis in high-motion joints of racehorses at 6 months after treatment by inhibiting subchondral bone remodeling. Whether this effect was associated with a worsening of progressive cartilage damage remains to be ascertained.

- Tiludronic acid can be detected in blood and urine samples from Thoroughbred racehorses over 3 years after last administration. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Evidence that a therapeutic dose of tiludronic acid has been administered to a horse can be obtained from detection of the drug in blood and urine samples over 3 years after it was administered.

- Reappraisal of FDA approved drugs against Alzheimer's disease based on differential gene expression and protein interaction network analysis: an in silico approach. [Journal Article]
- Alzheimer's disease (AD), a most prevailing neurodegenerative disorder with turbulence in cognitive and behavioural abilities, epitomizes one of the highest unmet medical requirements. The current AD treatment focuses merely on symptomatic relief, this explains a dearth in drug research oriented towards unwinding of disease specific druggable targets. On the other hand, toxicity and poor bioavail…

- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Tiludronate [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- Because no information is available on the use of tiludronate during breastfeeding, an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant. However, absorption of tiludronate by a breastfed infant is unlikely.
- Quantitative assessment of intravenous regional limb perfusion of tiludronate as an adjunctive treatment for lameness caused by navicular syndrome in horses. [Journal Article]Am J Vet Res. 2018 Dec; 79(12):1313-1320.AJ
- OBJECTIVE To determine effects for 2 IV regional limb perfusion (IVRLP) protocols involving tiludronate on lameness of horses with navicular syndrome. ANIMALS 15 horses with bilateral forelimb navicular syndrome. PROCEDURES Shoeing and anti-inflammatory injection into the distal interphalangeal joint (DIPJ) of both forelimbs (day 0) were performed on all horses. On day 14, horses received 1 of 3 …

- [Use of bisphosphonates in horses - a review]. [Journal Article]
- Systemic administration of tiludronate or clodronate decreases lameness in some horses suffering from navicular syndrome within 2-6 months of treatment. In horses that fail to respond to the first treatment, a follow-up treatment may still improve the lameness. Horses with a lameness duration of less than 6 months have better odds of experiencing improvement in lameness. Bisphosphonate (BP) treat…

- Tiludronate and clodronate do not affect bone structure or remodeling kinetics over a 60 day randomized trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
- CONCLUSIONS: Tiludronate and clodronate do not appear to significantly impact bone tissue on a structural or cellular level using standard dose and administration schedules.

- Local administration of Tiludronic Acid downregulates important mediators involved in periodontal tissue destruction in experimental periodontitis in rats. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Within the limits of this study, it can be concluded that local administration of TIL downregulates important mediators involved in periodontal tissue destruction in ligature-induced periodontitis in rats.

- Pharmacokinetics of tiludronate in horses: A field population study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This population pharmacokinetic study on tiludronate will enable racing and other sports authorities to provide a detection time reflecting field conditions for the medication control of tiludronate. More generally, our study design and the data modelling serve as an example of how to generate detection times directly from the target horse population rather than from experimental horses.

- Signal changes in standing magnetic resonance imaging of osseous injury at the origin of the suspensory ligament in four Thoroughbred racehorses under tiludronic acid treatment. [Journal Article]
- Problems associated with the proximal metacarpal region, such as an osseous injury associated with tearing of Sharpey's fibers or an avulsion fracture of the origin of the suspensory ligament (OISL), are important causes of lameness in racehorses. In the present study, four Thoroughbred racehorses (age range, 2-4 years) were diagnosed as having forelimb OISL and assessed over time by using standi…

- Effects of local administration of tiludronic acid on experimental periodontitis in diabetic rats. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Local administration of TIL promoted a protective effect against tissue destruction in EP in diabetic rats, and the dosage of 3 mg/kg of TIL promoted the best results regarding its antiresorptive and anti-inflammatory effects.

- Quantitative assessment of two methods of tiludronate administration for the treatment of lameness caused by navicular syndrome in horses. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Tiludronate (1 mg/kg, IV) as a single systemic treatment appeared to be beneficial for horses with NS, but no horses were judged as sound during the study period. Additional research on IVRLP with tiludronate is needed before this method can be recommended.
