- GeneReviews®: Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome [BOOK]GeneReviews®. University of Washington, Seattle: Seattle (WA).BOOK
- Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is characterized by the association of gastrointestinal (GI) polyposis, mucocutaneous pigmentation, and cancer predisposition. PJS-type hamartomatous polyps are most common in the small intestine (in order of prevalence: jejunum, ileum, and duodenum) but can also occur in the stomach, large bowel, and extraintestinal sites including the renal pelvis, bronchus, gall bl…
- Double-balloon enteroscopy in different age groups: indications, findings, diagnosis, and treatment: A 17-year single-center retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
- Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) is an essential diagnostic and therapeutic modality for small-bowel disorders. Most prior studies on age-related differences in DBE involved limited age groups and small cohorts. We evaluated age-specific differences in the indications, findings, therapeutic interventions, and complications of DBE in a large single-center cohort. We retrospectively analyzed 817 pa…

- Inflammatory Fibroid Polyp With Central Pseudocystic Degeneration. [Journal Article]Int J Surg Pathol. 2026 Sep 18; :10668969261477761. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- Inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFP) are uncommon benign lesions of the gastrointestinal tract that can mimic malignant neoplasms, cause intussusception, and be difficult to recognize radiologically. Previous descriptions in the medical literature have consistently noted them to be composed of a solid core of fibrous tissue with overlying mucosa. A 47-year-old woman presented with 1 month of abdomin…

- Adult intussusception in a tropical setting: real-world surgical diagnosis in low-resource settings. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Intussusception in adults is rare and often difficult to diagnose. The small bowel is frequently affected by this condition, which is commonly caused by benign lesions, particularly in regions where tuberculosis and schistosomiasis are endemic. Surgical resection remains the primary treatment, and when appropriately managed, good outcomes are expected.

- Diagnostic and therapeutic value of double-balloon enteroscopy in pediatric patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: DBE is a safe and feasible technique for the resection of multiple intestinal polyps in children with PJS. Compared with traditional open laparotomy, DBE offers advantages including scar-free healing, reduced surgical trauma, and improved postoperative recovery. These findings indicate that DBE has substantial clinical value and supports its broader application in pediatric clinical practice.

- Pathological lead points in pediatric secondary intussusception: A single-center retrospective observational study of five common etiologies. [Journal Article]
- While most pediatric intussusceptions are idiopathic, secondary cases differ significantly in clinical presentation, treatment strategies, and prognosis due to the presence of pathological lead points (PLPs). Accurate PLP identification is crucial for optimizing diagnosis and treatment. This study aims to compare clinical and imaging features across PLP types to improve recognition and interventi…

- Technical Considerations of the Jejunal Limb Route During Pancreaticoduodenectomy Following Total Colectomy for Familial Adenomatous Polyposis: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Case Reports]Anticancer Res. 2026 Sep; 46(9):5311-5317.AR
- CONCLUSIONS: The present study highlights the clinical course of a patient who underwent PD after prophylactic total colectomy for FAP. As a functional mesocolic plane is absent in patients who have undergone prophylactic total colectomy, special considerations of the jejunal limb route are required in PD after prophylactic colorectal surgery. This approach may be an optional and feasible strategy for successful PD after prophylactic colorectal surgery.

- Familial Juvenile Polyposis Syndrome: A Case Report of a Cosegregation of SMAD4 Germline Pathogenic Variant c.403C>T and Review of the Literature. [Journal Article]
- Juvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS) is an inherited autosomal dominant disease that is distinguished by the emergence of numerous juvenile polyps within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and has an increased risk of cancer. JPS is associated with germline mutations of the BMPR1A or SMAD4 genes. We aim to describe a case of familial occurrence of the SMAD4 germline pathogenic variant c.403C>T in a Bra…

- Intracorporeal anastomosis versus extracorporeal anastomosis for laparoscopic right hemicolectomy: short-term and long-term outcomes. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: ICA was associated with faster recovery of bowel function, fewer complications, and shorter hospital stays compared to ECA, with comparable operative times. These findings support ICA as a feasible technique for ileocolic anastomosis in a community hospital setting and suggest it is associated with improved short- and long-term outcomes compared to ECA.

- Double intussusception: a rare case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2026 Jul; 88(7):4675-4679.AM
- CONCLUSIONS: Double (simultaneous) intussusception is a rare but life-threatening condition. A high index of suspicion, thorough radiological assessment, and prompt surgical intervention, along with evaluation for pathological lead points, are essential to achieve favorable outcomes.

- Small-Bowel Lymphoma: The Hidden Cause of Obscure Gastrointestinal Bleeding. [Case Reports]Acta Med Indones. 2026 Apr; 58(2):297-300.AM
- Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) accounts for approximately 5% of all gastrointestinal bleeding cases, with the small intestine being the most common source of origin. Primary small-bowel lymphoma is a rare malignancy that can present as intestinal bleeding in 2% to 22% of cases. A 67-year-old male presented with a four-day history of diarrhea and melena, accompanied by severe anemia wit…

- Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) is a rare autosomal dominant hamartomatous polyposis disorder characterised by mucocutaneous pigmentation and multiple gastrointestinal polyps, most commonly involving the small intestine. Paediatric patients frequently present with complications, such as abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, and recurrent intussusception. We report the case of a nine-year-old fe…

- Clinical characteristics and predictors for the presence of pediatric intussusception secondary to pathological lead points. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Older age, hematochezia, vomitus, recurrence intussusception, small-intestinal intussusception, thrombocytocrit and ascites are independent predictors of PLPs and may aid in risk stratification and guide the decision for surgical intervention.

- Incidental Diagnosis of Serrated Polyposis Syndrome of the Small and Large Bowel Treated Endoscopically and Surgically: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108912.C
- Colorectal serrated polyps are now recognized as an important pathway in colorectal carcinogenesis. An association between serrated polyposis syndrome (SPS) and duodenal serrated lesions sharing a similar immunophenotype in both the colon and duodenum has been reported in the literature. We present a case of a 38-year-old male who presented in June 2023 with abdominal pain and fever. Initial inve…
