  • Dapsone: strategies for increasing patient tolerance. [Review]
Environ Toxicol Pharmacol. 2026 Sep; 126:105137.Coleman MDET
  • Dapsone possesses anti-infective and anti-imflammatory properties, but its CYP-mediated metabolism to hydroxylamines causes dose-dependent haematological toxicity which impairs patient tolerance. In the 1990s cimetidine-mediated partial inhibition of the oxidative metabolism of dapsone was demonstrated clinically to lower methaemoglobin formation and subsequent case studies with fragile and immun…
  • Hepatoerythropoietic porphyria in a 2-year-old child: Clinical features and effects of treatment. [Journal Article]
    Mol Genet Metab. 2026 Aug 08; 149(1-2):110234. [Online ahead of print]Bensaber N, Tran B, … Yeung AKMG
  • Hepatoerythropoietic porphyria (HEP) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder of heme biosynthesis caused by severe deficiency of uroporphyrinogen decarboxylase (UROD). It typically presents in infancy or early childhood with marked photosensitivity, skin fragility, blistering, dyspigmentation, hypertrichosis, and dark urine. We report a girl from Brazil who developed blistering and ulcerative lesi…
  • StatPearls: Theophylline Toxicity [BOOK]

  • Around the world, theophylline (1,3-dimethylxanthine) is primarily used as a bronchodilator for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, in the United States, asthma and COPD are mainly treated with other agents, and theophylline is largely used to treat bradycardia and apnea in premature newborns. Theophylline causes the endogenous release of catecholamines…

  • Cimetidine is a drug with the indication of peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and dermatological conditions including warts, urticaria, mastocytosis, and erythropoietic protoporphyria. This medication is an H2 receptor antagonist. This activity will describe cimetidine's indications, actions, and contraindications in these disorders. Cimetidine is available as an over-the-cou…
  • Management of bladder pain syndrome with Hunner's lesions: A series of 32 cases. [Journal Article]
Fr J Urol. 2026 Jun 17. [Online ahead of print]Saussine C, Gaillard VFJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: In case of BPS with a bladder phenotype and one or more Hunner's lesions, treatment by transurethral resection of the inflammatory lesion is more effective for pain and, to a lesser extent, for pollakiuria than our usual medical treatment (CRP) but does not prevent recurrence after varying periods of time.
  • Characterization of blood-brain barrier L-arginine uptake using in situ brain perfusions in a female mouse model. [Journal Article]
Fluids Barriers CNS. 2026 Jun 13; 23(1).Milam OC, Wolford CP, … Lockman PRFB
  • CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that mice predominantly use the y+ system, a cationic amino acid transporter, to transport L-arginine across the BBB. Our work supports previous characterization of BBB carrier-mediated transport of L-arginine yet extends the data by assessing complete Michaelis-Menten transport kinetics across regions and in whole brain in a female mouse model. Data further suggest species can influence BBB L-arginine transport function and there is differential need for L-arginine between brain regions. This data serves as a baseline for studies involving alterations in cationic amino acid homeostasis or altered L-arginine metabolism such as in cases of arginine auxotrophy.
