- Decoding functional cough in pediatrics: differentiating tic, psychogenic, and compulsive phenotypes for targeted intervention. [Review]
- Chronic cough without clear cardiopulmonary pathology poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in children and adolescents. While psychosocial factors play a crucial role in its pathogenesis, historical labels such as "habit cough" or "psychogenic cough" have often been vague and stigmatizing. Despite contemporary consensus guidelines advocating for the term "somatic cough syndrome," unified d…

- Diagnostic value of a multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging-based nomogram incorporating apparent diffusion coefficient in preoperative differentiation of phyllodes tumors from breast cancer: a retrospective study. [Journal Article]Quant Imaging Med Surg. 2026 Oct 01; 16(10):777.QI
- CONCLUSIONS: Multiparametric MRI provides significant diagnostic value in preoperatively differentiating PTs from BCs. Although the subgroup analysis regarding PT histological grading remains preliminary due to limited sample sizes, both ADCmean and rADC offer valuable quantitative insights, with rADC serving as a complementary metric. Crucially, the combined diagnostic nomogram demonstrated robust diagnostic performance despite internal penalization. Pending prospective external validation, this tool may inform individualized diagnosis and optimize surgical decision-making.

- 1Hz vs. cTBS Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to Augment Behavior Therapy for Tics: A Randomized Clinical Trial. [Journal Article]medRxiv. 2026 Oct 01.M
- CONCLUSIONS: SMA-directed cTBS is a safe, feasible augmentation that may amplify the neural effects of CBIT on sensorimotor circuitry. Findings identify cTBS as the preferred stimulation regimen for future efficacy testing.

- Tourette syndrome. [Review]
- Tourette syndrome is characterized by the presence of motor and phonic tics. Individuals with Tourette syndrome can have a spectrum of related behaviours including attention deficit hyperactivity features, obsessions, compulsions, impulsions and complex tics. The pathophysiology of Tourette syndrome is thought to reflect genetic influences on the development and function of cortical-striatal-thal…

- Jean-Noël Seignot (1925-2022): Pioneer in the treatment of Gilles de la Tourette syndrome. [Journal Article]J Hist Neurosci. 2026 Oct 08; :1-10. [Online ahead of print]JH
- In 1961, Jean-Noël Seignot (1925-2022) published a clinical observation in the Annales Médico-Psychologiques of a patient with a severe form of Gilles de la Tourette syndrome. He included the results of his clinical test with R.1625, a new compound then in an experimental phase, developed by Janssen Laboratories in Belgium-that is, haloperidol. Seignot's article is constantly cited in the bibliog…

- Brain-heart coupling in tourette syndrome: a precision functional mapping study of discordant siblings. [Journal Article]
- Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by motor and vocal tics that are modulated by internal physiological state and interoceptive state, including premonitory urges and associated changes in short-timescale parasympathetic variability. Since tic expression is thought to be linked to fluctuations in autonomic state, understanding how brain networks integrate physio…

- "Just Right" Perceptions and Obsessive-Compulsive Symptoms in Tourette Syndrome and Chronic Tic Disorder: Implications for Tourettic Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: "Just right" perceptions are not only an intrinsic characteristic of tic disorders but are also associated with repetitive behaviors in OCD. These results provide preliminary clinical support for Tourettic OCD as an intermediate phenotype between tic disorders and OCD.

- Beyond Seizure Management in a Developmental Epileptic Encephalopathy: Expanding the SLC6A1 Neurodevelopmental Disorder Phenotype. [Journal Article]
- SLC6A1-related neurodevelopmental disorder (SLC6A1-NDD) is emerging as a leading genetic cause of epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and NDD caused by monoallelic loss of function variants in SLC6A1 (solute carrier family 6 member 1) which encodes a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) transporter (GAT1). Descriptions of SLC6A1-NDD have centered around epilepsy, but caregivers report other featu…

- Perceived Organizational Support, Trauma-Informed Care, and Caring Behaviors: A Quantitative Study Among Nurses. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Nurses' caring behaviors are positively influenced by both trauma-informed care and perceived organizational support. Trauma-informed care emerged as the strongest predictor, indicating that caring behaviors are shaped not only by technical competencies but also by sensitivity to patients' psychosocial needs and safety.

- Somatosensory gating of pneumatic stimuli in adults with chronic tic disorder. [Journal Article]Biol Psychol. 2026 Sep 29; 211:109408. [Online ahead of print]BP
- Individuals with chronic tic disorder (CTD) frequently report sensory over-responsivity, defined as heightened awareness of and/or behavioral reactivity to stimuli that are non-aversive to most neurotypical individuals. Within CTD populations, sensory over-responsivity is associated with severity of tics and co-occurring psychiatric symptoms. Despite its prevalence and association with core facet…

- Antepartum stress, trait anxiety, and medical risks as predictors of fathers' postpartum worry after threatened preterm birth. [Journal Article]J Reprod Infant Psychol. 2026 Sep 28; :1-16. [Online ahead of print]JR
- CONCLUSIONS: Fathers exposed to TPB are at increased risk of postpartum worry, particularly with higher antepartum chronic stress, trait anxiety, and maternal complications, even when the infant is born at term. Chronic stress and trait anxiety, along with maternal complications and infant birth outcomes, contribute differentially to paternal worry. These findings highlight the importance of early support and stress prevention for fathers facing prenatal risk, regardless of birth outcome.

- Risky Impulsive Behavior in Gilles de la Tourette Syndrome. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Behavioral disturbances are common in Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) and can include risky impulsive behaviors (RIBs), but RIB classification remains unclear. This study aims to define the epidemiology of RIB in GTS and to assess its relationship with tic severity and the prevalence of comorbid psychiatric disorders. Methods: The study was structured as a cross-sectio…

- Deep Learning for Automated Tic Detection and Prediction in Tourette Syndrome Using Electromyography and Video. [Journal Article]
- Tourette syndrome is characterized by involuntary motor and vocal tics, which are challenging to monitor objectively. This study evaluated convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Transformer models on EMG and video data ('Rest', 'Tic', and 'Voluntary Movement') for detection and prediction. We hypothesized that EMG windows <5s would better capture tics and improve detection and prediction accura…

- Roadmap for functional neurological disorders: Shared circuitry and future directions. [Review]Int Rev Neurobiol. 2026; 190:161-174.IR
- Functional Neurological Disorders, or FND, have become accepted in the vernacular of medicine. Although in the past, they were considered less valid than other conditions, now they are present among the differential diagnoses of most illnesses in neurology and psychiatry. Diagnostic approaches have markedly changed as phenotypic profiles become more consistent. Treatment strategies include pharma…
