- From Chemistry to Clinic: A Review of Latanoprostene Bunod and Its Therapeutic Potential. [Journal Article]Mini Rev Med Chem. 2026 Jul 16. [Online ahead of print]MR
- Open-Angle Glaucoma (OAG) is a progressive optic neuropathy and a major cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Lowering Intraocular Pressure (IOP) remains the most effective approach for slowing disease progression. Latanoprostene bunod (LBN) ophthalmic solution 0.024% (Vyzulta®) is a nitric oxide (NO)-donating prostaglandin analogue developed to enhance aqueous humor drainage through two com…

- Topical Timolol for Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter Exit-Site Granulomas: First Report of Successful Use in CAPD Patients. [Case Reports]Semin Dial. 2026 Jul 19. [Online ahead of print]SD
- Exit-site granuloma is a frequent and challenging complication in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis, predisposing to exit-site infections. Recent evidence suggests a potential role for topical timolol in promoting regression of granulomatous tissue. We report two patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis who developed exit-site granulomas. Both patients were treated with topical…

- Severe metabolic acidosis with renal tubular acidosis features attributed to topical brinzolamide in a patient with stage 3 chronic kidney disease: a case report. [Journal Article]BMC Nephrol. 2026 Jul 07. [Online ahead of print]BN
- CONCLUSIONS: Topical CAIs can undergo significant systemic absorption, bypassing first-pass metabolism, and precipitate life-threatening acidosis in patients with reduced renal reserve. Clinicians must maintain a high index of suspicion for ophthalmic medications as hidden causes of mixed acid-base disorders in patients with CKD.

- Comprehensive Analytical Method Development for Related Substance Determination in Dorzolamide Hydrochloride-Timolol Maleate Ophthalmic Solutions: Multi-Method Approach and Regulatory Compliance. [Journal Article]Biomed Chromatogr. 2026 Jul; 40(7):e70522.BC
- This study presents the development and validation of three selective chromatographic methods for the identification and quantification of related substances, including process-related impurities and degradation products, in combined ophthalmic formulations of dorzolamide hydrochloride (DH) and timolol maleate (TM). The methods were applied to ophthalmic solutions containing 2.0% DH and 0.5% TM (…

- Efficacy of 0.5% Timolol Maleate Eye Drops for the Treatment of Facial Rosacea: A Randomized, Triple-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]J Dermatol. 2026 Jun; 53(6):880-887.JD
- Rosacea is a chronic skin condition with limited effective and well-tolerated treatment options. This study investigated the efficacy of 0.5% timolol maleate eye drops in treating facial rosacea lesions. A randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted at Razi Hospital in Tehran, involving 42 participants diagnosed with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (ETR). Participan…

- Mohs Surgeons' Postoperative Care Practices for Secondary Intention Healing: A National Survey. [Journal Article]J Clin Aesthet Dermatol. 2026 Mar; 19(3):42-46.JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative care practices for SIH vary considerably among Mohs surgeons. Despite supporting literature, the use of advanced dressings, antiseptics, and topical timolol remains limited. These findings highlight opportunities for further research and standardization of SIH wound care.

- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Timolol [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- Because of the variability in excretion of timolol into breastmilk and minimal reported experience during breastfeeding, other agents may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant. Ophthalmic use of timolol by the mother should pose little risk to the breastfed infant, although some guidelines state that gel formulations are preferred over solutions.[1,2] To substantially…
- Nonselective beta-blocker eye drops and the risk of fall-related injuries: a Danish nationwide new user, active comparator propensity score matched cohort study. [Journal Article]Age Ageing. 2026 Apr 04; 55(4).AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that timolol eye drops are not associated with a significantly increased risk of fall-related injuries in the overall population of older adults. However, a marginally significant increased risk of fall-related injuries was seen among the oldest individuals and those concurrently using multiple FRIDs. These findings underscore the importance of considering a patient-centred approach when prescribing medications that could be potentially harmful.

- Real-time intraocular pressure monitoring and responsive drug release in preclinical models by an all-polymer smart contact lens. [Journal Article]
- Glaucoma remains a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, yet conventional topical therapies are often hampered by poor patient adherence, and standard in-office applanation tonometry captures only static measurements, failing to capture the dynamic nature of intraocular pressure (IOP). Smart contact lenses have emerged as promising tools for home-based, real-time IOP monitoring and f…

- Anterior segment, static and dynamic pupillography changes in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma using different types of topical antiglaucomatous agents. [Journal Article]Photodiagnosis Photodyn Ther. 2026 Jun; 59:105464.PP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that the most commonly used antiglaucomatous agents increased ACD and ACA but did not affect other anterior segment structures, such as CCT, CV, or ACV. On the ocular surface, antiglaucomatous agents had significant negative effects. Meibography revealed adverse effects on the eyelids. Both first and mean NCTBUT were shortened. In pupillography, both static and dynamic pupil diameters were significantly smaller than those in the control group.

- Advances in in-situ Gels for Ophthalmic Drug Delivery: Formulation Aspects, Mechanisms of Drug Release, and Therapeutic Application. [Journal Article]Curr Pharm Des. 2026 Mar 25. [Online ahead of print]CP
- In situ gels have become a promising approach for ophthalmic drug delivery because they overcome the major limitations of conventional eye drops, such as rapid drainage of the drug, poor bioavailability, and poor patient compliance. These formulations are liquid before administration and undergo sol-gel transition in response to ocular stimuli such as temperature, pH, or tear ions, thus extending…
