- When Tuberculosis Left the Heart in a Cage: Multimodality Imaging Revealing Constrictive Pericarditis in a Young Adult. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115722.C
- Tuberculous pericarditis (TBP) is a potentially severe manifestation of extrapulmonary tuberculosis that may lead to pericardial effusion and constrictive physiology and, in some patients, progress to fixed constrictive pericarditis. Diagnosis can be particularly challenging in young immunocompetent patients without overt pulmonary involvement. We report the case of a 20-year-old immunocompetent …

- A 66-year-old Chinese man with chronic hepatitis B treated with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, a history of liver transplantation approximately 17 months earlier, hypertension, and atrial fibrillation treated with apixaban presented with progressive weakness, weight loss, and inability to ambulate. His only anti-rejection agent was tacrolimus. One month earlier, he had been hospitalized for multi…

- Aggressive lumbar vertebral hemangioma presenting with foot drop mimicking spinal tuberculosis: A case report. [Case Reports]Surg Neurol Int. 2026; 17:503.SN
- CONCLUSIONS: Aggressive lumbar vertebral hemangiomas may rarely present with foot drop and mimic spinal tuberculosis. Careful radiological evaluation and individualized surgical management with timely decompression and stabilization are essential for favorable neurological outcomes.

- Streptomyces sanguinis sp. nov., a Ceftriaxone-Resistant Strain Obtained From Human Blood and Reclassification of Streptomyces thermospinosisporus as Streptomyces thermocarboxydovorans subsp. thermospinosisporus subsp. nov. [Journal Article]Int J Microbiol. 2026; 2026:5214822.IJ
- The taxonomic position of an actinomycete, strain 15-116A[T], isolated from a blood culture of a 31-year-old male from the United States was determined using polyphasic taxonomic analysis. Genome-based phylogeny showed that the strain was closely related to Streptomyces composti, Streptomyces thermocarboxydovorans, and Streptomyces thermospinosisporus species. Digital DNA-DNA (dDDH) relatedness a…

- Revisiting the potential of elongation factors as drug targets for pathogenic mycobacteria. [Review]Drug Discov Today. 2026 Oct 03; :104823. [Online ahead of print]DD
- Drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis and non-tuberculous mycobacteria infections are a threat to global healthcare. The scarcity of therapeutic options highlights the urgent necessity to discover efficacious drug targets and inhibitors. Protein synthesis has been clinically proven to be an excellent target for antibiotic development. Translation involves three well-defined steps: initiation,…

- Pharmacokinetics of Efavirenz in Pregnancy and Postpartum with and Without First-line Tuberculosis Drugs: Results from IMPAACT P1026s. [Journal Article]Clin Pharmacokinet. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]CP
- CONCLUSIONS: Late pregnancy combined with DS-TB treatment is associated with lower EFV exposure. Further investigation is needed to determine the clinical significance of these findings, but frequent viral load monitoring is advised in PWLHIV with TB disease receiving EFV-based antiretroviral treatment.

- Beyond granulomatous amoebic encephalitis: changing epidemiology and an expanding spectrum of non-flagellated amoebic CNS infection in India. [Review]Infection. 2026 Oct 03. [Online ahead of print]I
- CONCLUSIONS: The recent Indian experience probably reflects substantial diagnostic discovery superimposed on a possible true increase in environmentally acquired Acanthamoeba CNS infection. Organism-specific surveillance, improved molecular diagnosis, and prospective treatment data are needed to define the true burden, transmission pathways, and optimal management of these infections.

- Impact of COVID-19 on TB and HIV/AIDS severity in low- and middle-income countries: a systematic review. [Review]Dialogues Health. 2026 Dec; 9:100349.DH
- CONCLUSIONS: In low- and middle-income countries, COVID-19 patients with underlying conditions were significantly more likely to experience severe outcomes than those without comorbidities. Furthermore, the pandemic severely disrupted fragile health systems in these regions, exacerbating the burden of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.

- The Three Cs of Integrated Tuberculosis-Diabetes Modules: A Competency-Based Medical Education Framework. [Review]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115635.C
- The introduction of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) in India emphasizes outcome-oriented training and provides a framework for implementing integrated teaching strategies. Traditional discipline-based medical education often limits the ability of learners to integrate knowledge across domains required to manage such complex comorbidities. Evidence suggests that integrated teaching appro…

- Comparison of Tuberculin Skin Test and Interferon-Gamma Release Assay for Latent Tuberculosis Screening in Healthcare Workers. [Journal Article]Cureus. 2026 Oct; 18(10):e117357.C
- Background Latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) screening in healthcare settings remains crucial for tuberculosis control. Current screening methods include the Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST) and interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA), but their comparative effectiveness in healthcare worker screening remains unclear. Objective This study aims to compare the diagnostic performance of the TST a…

- Giant Intrapulmonary Solitary Fibrous Tumour With a Possible Liver Metastasis: A Rare Case. [Journal Article]Respirol Case Rep. 2026 Oct; 14(10):e70754.RC
- Intrapulmonary solitary fibrous tumours (SFTs) are exceptionally rare mesenchymal neoplasms, particularly when presenting as giant thoracic masses. We report a case of a 57-year-old woman with progressive chest pain and dyspnoea who initially presented with pleural effusion and hypoglycaemia and received empirical anti-tuberculosis therapy without improvement. Contrast-enhanced CT revealed a left…

- Changing epidemiological patterns of tuberculosis in China from 1990 to 2023: trends and future projections of drug-resistant and HIV-associated tuberculosis. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1948171.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Although the overall TB burden in China has declined substantially, subtype-specific trajectories remain heterogeneous. Future control strategies should strengthen the rapid detection and management of drug resistance, integrate TB and HIV services, and prioritize targeted prevention and care for high-risk populations.

- Co-designing PROFESS: a community health worker support framework to strengthen engagement in TB and HIV care in Madagascar. [Journal Article]Front Health Serv. 2026; 6:1910840.FH
- Community health workers (CHWs) are central to primary health care in low- and middle-income countries, yet their engagement is often uneven across health domains. In Madagascar, approximately 50,720 CHWs serving on a voluntary, unsalaried basis link communities to the formal health system, but only a minority is actively engaged in tuberculosis (TB) or HIV service delivery despite substantial di…
