- A Presumed Acquired Ureteral Diverticulum Presenting With Hematuria, Urosepsis, and Periureteral Contrast Leak: A Rare Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e115534.C
- Ureteral diverticulum is an exceptionally rare abnormality that may be congenital or acquired secondary to chronic obstruction, calculi, infection, or prior instrumentation. While often asymptomatic, complicated cases can present with hematuria, recurrent UTIs, or sepsis. A 60-year-old bedridden woman with morbid obesity and a history of multiple endourological procedures presented with urosepsis…

- A multicenter international case series highlighting the management of pediatric nephrogenic adenoma. [Journal Article]J Pediatr Urol. 2026 Sep 08; :106268. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: Pediatric NA is an uncommon benign urothelial lesion characterized by bladder predominance, frequent multifocality, and a significant tendency to recur. In this international pediatric series, transurethral resection (TUR) was the most frequently used initial treatment and achieved adequate disease control in most cases, although recurrence was observed in nearly one-third of patients. Some patients managed with conservative approaches, including sodium hyaluronate instillations, experienced symptom reduction. Ultrasound was the most common first-line surveillance modality, supplemented by selective cystoscopy. Continued international collaboration is needed to better define optimal management and follow-up strategies for this rare condition.

- Development and internal validation of a preoperative score for predicting postoperative residual stone after mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The Mini-PCNL Residual Stone Score is a simple and clinically applicable preoperative tool for estimating clinically significant residual stone risk after mini-PCNL. Because it is based entirely on routinely available preoperative variables, it may support individualized counseling and treatment planning. External validation in independent multicenter cohorts is needed before broader clinical use.

- Intraoperative positioning strategies to improve stone-free outcomes during retrograde intrarenal surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative positioning strategies during RIRS may improve stone-free outcomes. However, endpoint variability, exploratory subgroup classification, limited reintervention data, and the absence of direct intrarenal pressure monitoring warrant cautious interpretation. Standardized trials with CT-based endpoints, clearly defined positioning protocols, and intrarenal pressure monitoring are needed.

- Automating Clavien-Dindo classification with large language models in percutaneous nephrolithotomy: an exploratory study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Large language models show promise in being faster, more accurate, and precise than physicians in Clavien-Dindo classification in an experimental setting. We support the need for a prospective agreement study using real-world clinical records. We urge discussion of the legal and ethical implications.

- The ROI-modified mayo adhesive probability score as a predictor of postoperative fever after retrograde intrarenal surgery. [Journal Article]
- In our study, we investigated the predictive value of the region of interest (ROI)-modified Mayo Adhesive Probability (MAP) score which objectively assesses perirenal fat density for postoperative fever following retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS), as well as its comparative performance against the conventional MAP score. This retrospective study included 318 patients who underwent RIRS with a …

- Adherence to medical management of kidney stones: A systematic review. [Systematic Review]
- The effectiveness of dietary and pharmacologic stone prevention strategies may be limited by poor patient adherence. This systematic review aims to assess adherence to the American Urological Association (AUA) guidelines for medical management of kidney stone disease by (1) determining how adherence influences clinical outcomes, (2) identifying which preventive interventions demonstrate the highe…

- Management of urinary stones by experts in stone disease (ESD 2026). [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15986.AI
- The prevalence of urinary stones range between 1 and 14% in different countries around the world. Men account for approximately 67% of cases, but the gender gap is narrowing over time. A study conducted in the Russian Federation showed that 22.2% of subjects interviewed with a questionnaire reported a history of urolithiasis. Stone formation begins with the urinary crystallization of less soluble…

- Phytate and L-methionine for preventing recurrence of infection renal stones. [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15985.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: The findings of these case reports demonstrate that urinary acidification can be effectively achieved by oral administration of L-methionine in association with phytate in patients with chronic urinary tract infections who form urinary stones with the goal of preventing stone and infection recurrence and preserving renal function.

- WhatsApp-assisted telemedicine for ureteral stone management: a pilot study. [Journal Article]Arch Ital Urol Androl. 2026 Sep 25; 98(3):15821.AI
- CONCLUSIONS: WhatsApp-assisted telemedicine is a feasible, safe, and cost-effective approach for managing ureteral stones. Larger prospective studies are required to validate these findings.

- Slice thickness matters: CT-based evaluation of stone-free status with grade classification after RIRS. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: CT reconstruction slice thickness significantly affected SFS assessment after RIRS. Thicker reconstructions may artifactually increase the apparent stone-free rate by underdetecting or undermeasuring small residual stones. When evaluating SFS with CT, the imaging protocol, including slice thickness, should be clearly reported.

- More energy, same results: high energy settings do not improve the efficiency of dual energy lithotripsy during percutaneous nephrolithotomy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Increased frequency and impact settings do not improve the efficiency of a dual-energy lithotripsy for clearance of large or hard stones and are unnecessary.

- Standard versus miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy in pediatric patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Mini-PCNL and standard PCNL achieve comparable stone-free rates in pediatric patients. Mini-PCNL is associated with fewer minor complications, whereas standard PCNL is associated with shorter operative times. Both techniques demonstrate similar safety profiles with respect to major complications.

- Therapeutic and antioxidant effects of Camelus dromedarius hump fat oil against ethylene glycol-induced nephrocalcinosis and hepato-renal damage in wistar rats: a biochemical and histopathological study. [Journal Article]
- Renal stones remain a prevalent renal disorder characterized by high recurrence rates and limited therapeutic options, encouraging continued research into novel agents capable of treating established stone disease. Camelus dromedarius hump fat has long been used in North African alternative medicine to treat various dermal and inflammatory diseases. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant act…

- Incidence and context-specific risk patterns of ureteral avulsion and perforation during ureteroscopy: EAU endourology systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- Ureteral perforation and avulsion are rare but potentially severe complications of ureteroscopy (URS), and their reported incidence varies substantially because of heterogeneous populations, techniques, and denominators. The objective of presented meta-analysis was to estimate the procedure-level incidence of ureteral perforation and avulsion during URS for ureteral stones and explore study-level…
