- Effects of Acupoint Application on Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Patients Undergoing Intravesical Instillation After Bladder Cancer Surgery: A Randomized Crossover Exploratory Study. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Pain Res Manag. 2026; 2026(1):e5079749.PR
- CONCLUSIONS: This exploratory study provides preliminary evidence that TCM acupoint application may have the potential to alleviate LUTS in patients after surgery for bladder cancer, while also showing a trend toward improving patients' quality of life. These findings provide preliminary evidence to support the feasibility of subsequent studies, optimization of study design, and estimation of sample size for future trials.

- Multidrug resistance in bacteria causing community-acquired urinary tract infections among adult outpatients attending primary healthcare facilities in Mwanza, Tanzania. [Journal Article]
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common indication for antibiotic use among adult outpatients in low- and middle-income countries, yet data on community-acquired UTIs (CA-UTIs) and antimicrobial resistance at primary healthcare facilities remain limited. A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from May to August 2024 at Igoma and Buzuruga Health Centres in Mwanza, Tanzania. Symp…

- The Afferent Threshold Hypothesis: A Unified Neural Framework for Functional Bladder Capacity and Nocturia. [Journal Article]
- The Weiss nocturia indices have structured clinical thinking about nocturia for over 2 decades. By deriving simple ratios from the frequency-volume chart, they classify nocturia into nocturnal polyuria, reduced nocturnal bladder capacity, and mixed etiology. The arithmetic is sound. But the framework rests on an unexamined assumption: that the maximum voided volume, almost always the first mornin…

- "We don't know schistosomiasis can affect the female reproductive system and increase the risk of HIV": A mixed-methods analysis reveals gaps in risk factor determinants and health consequences of female genital schistosomiasis in Southern Chad. [Journal Article]PLoS Negl Trop Dis. 2026 Oct 06; 20(10):e0014791. [Online ahead of print]PN
- CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the need for integrating FGS education and awareness initiatives within praziquantel delivery campaigns and sexual/reproductive preventive services at primary health care facilities in rural Chad. Furthermore, it underscores the urgency of providing comprehensive training for local healthcare professionals on the diagnosis and clinical management of FGS and the improvement of water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH) services to minimize contact with freshwater bodies.

- Urgency Urinary Incontinence Is Associated with Vascular Comorbidity and Erectile Dysfunction: A LURN Cohort Analysis. [Journal Article]J Urol. 2026 Oct 05; :101097JU0000000000005335. [Online ahead of print]JU
- CONCLUSIONS: Urgency syndromes, particularly UUI, are associated with increased vascular comorbidity and erectile dysfunction relative to controls. Cardiometabolic proteomic differences between phenotypes were attenuated after adjusting for demographic and comorbidity factors. These findings support biologic heterogeneity across urinary urgency syndromes and a vascular/cardiometabolic contribution to urgency pathobiology.

- Reevaluating predictive factors for treatment success in therapy with OnabotulinumtoxinA for iOAB in a real-world study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: OnabotulinumtoxinA is a safe and highly effective treatment option for patients with iOAB and therefore can be offered to all patients. Treatment success is associated with smoking status and metabolism, whereas age and underlying diagnosis do not appear predictive. Postoperative urinary tract infections may adversely affect outcomes and should be minimized. These findings may improve patient counseling and expectation management.

- Lived Experiences of Emotional Distress Among Patients With Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: A Mixed-Methods Study. [Journal Article]Neurourol Urodyn. 2026 Oct 05. [Online ahead of print]NU
- CONCLUSIONS: Pain and overall LUTS burden were the primary contributors to emotional distress, whereas nocturia played a minimal role. Despite cohort selection for urinary urgency, pain was a driver of emotional distress, highlighting the need to assess bladder-related pain and its psychosocial impacts in LUTS care.

- COMBINED BOTULINUM TOXIN THERAPY AND PERCUTANEOUS TIBIAL NERVE STIMULATION IN THE REHABILITATION OF WOMEN WITH URGENCY URINARY INCONTINENCE ASSOCIATED WITH DIABETES MELLITUS. [Clinical Trial]Georgian Med News. 2026 Jul-Aug; (376-377):433-444.GM
- CONCLUSIONS: A combined program including intravesical botulinum toxin therapy and PTNS provides a statistically and clinically significant reduction in symptoms of urgency urinary incontinence in women with diabetes mellitus and has an acceptable safety profile. Dynamic monitoring of postvoid residual urine is necessary to reduce the risk of complications after botulinum toxin therapy. Because treatment was not allocated at random, these findings should be regarded as hypothesis-generating and require confirmation in randomized controlled trials.

- Ecological Momentary Assessment Reveals Greater Anxiety and Marked Instability of Urinary Urgency in Overactive Bladder. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings confirm cross-sectional evidence for increased psychological and urinary burden and provide novel evidence of substantial fluctuations in distress and urinary symptoms in OAB patients. Findings suggest exploring mechanistic links between psychological and urinary symptoms and highlight the utility of EMA as an assessment tool in OAB.

- Interstitial cystitis (IC) and overactive bladder (OAB) are chronic pelvic conditions with shared symptoms of urinary urgency, increased frequency, and nocturia with pain in the bladder. IC is characterized by bladder pain and inflammation without a clear etiology, whereas OAB involves detrusor overactivity in the absence of infection. Despite this symptomatic overlap, IC and OAB differ in underl…

- Prevalence of pelvic floor symptoms and their association with lumbopelvic and/or hip/groin pain in professional female athletes (Australian rules football and netball). [Journal Article]J Sci Med Sport. 2026 Sep 13. [Online ahead of print]JS
- CONCLUSIONS: Although urinary incontinence had the highest prevalence, professional Australian Football League Women's and Super Netball players experience a breadth of pelvic floor symptoms relating to bladder/bowel dysfunction and pelvic pain. Therefore, pelvic health screening for female athletes should examine a broad range of pelvic floor symptoms, beyond urinary incontinence. Our findings also suggest that in female athletes, consideration of pelvic floor function may be important in hip/groin pain assessment, management, and prevention.
