- Short-term exposure to diazepam during zebrafish embryogenesis induces intergenerational neurobehavioral disruption later in life. [Journal Article]Comp Biochem Physiol C Toxicol Pharmacol. 2026 Sep 26; :110698. [Online ahead of print]CB
- Diazepam (DZP) is a widely prescribed benzodiazepine that is increasingly detected in aquatic systems and known to impair neural function in aquatic organisms. However, its potential to elicit intergenerational neurobehavioral disruption, along with the underpinning mechanism in fish, remains uncharacterized. In this study, zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos were exposed to DZP (0.1-1000 μg/L) durin…

- Morin-Loaded PLGA-Chitosan Nanoparticles Attenuate PTZ-Induced Seizure-Related Behavioral, Biochemical, and Transcriptional Changes in Male Rats. [Journal Article]Pharmaceutics. 2026 Sep 16; 18(9).P
- Aims: Morin is a flavonoid with potential neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. This study evaluated the anticonvulsant and anxiolytic effects of morin-loaded PLGA-chitosan nanoparticles (Morin-PLGA-CS NPs) in male Wistar rats. Methods: Morin-PLGA-CS NPs were synthesized using a modified single emulsion-solvent evaporation method followed by CS coating. NPs were characterized by dynam…

- Chronic Chrysin, but Not Diazepam, Induces Anxiolytic-like Effects Without Behavioral Tolerance. [Journal Article]Molecules. 2026 Sep 10; 31(18).M
- CONCLUSIONS: Chronic treatment with chrysin (5 mg/kg) maintained their anxiolytic-like effects without pharmacological tolerance or cross-tolerance, unlike diazepam. This result supports the potential anxiolytic-like effects of chrysin in the long-term, as an alternative for anxiety disorders that require chronic treatment. This could contribute to the translational studies that could be applied to humans in the future.

- Electroencephalographic Aspects in a Sheep with Coenurosis. [Case Reports]Life (Basel). 2026 Sep 09; 16(9).L
- Ovine coenurosis, caused by the larval stage of Taenia multiceps (Coenurus cerebralis), is a parasitic disease that affects the central nervous system of livestock. While diagnosis traditionally relies on clinical signs, imaging, and postmortem examination, electroencephalography (EEG) remains underutilized despite its potential to detect brain abnormalities. This case report describes EEG and qu…

- CONCLUSIONS: This ten-year case series demonstrates TLA as a safe and effective alternative to general anesthesia for SMAS plication facelift in selected patients. The technique provides adequate analgesia, supports precise dissection with less bleeding, and minimizes postoperative edema and ecchymosis, leading to quicker recovery and improved patient comfort and satisfaction.

- Risk factors for benzodiazepine deprescribing failure after discharge from an acute geriatric ward: A retrospective cohort study. [Journal Article]Arch Gerontol Geriatr. 2026 Sep 16; 151:106413. [Online ahead of print]AG
- CONCLUSIONS: Deprescribing of BZRAs in older adults is frequently initiated during hospitalisation but often reversed after discharge. These findings suggest that autonomy and care transitions may play a role in shaping medication trajectories during ageing and warrant confirmation in larger prospective studies.

- Comparison of arterial blood pressure and quality of induction and recovery in horses anesthetized with diazepam or guaifenesin co-induction combined with xylazine and ketamine and maintained on isoflurane. [Journal Article]Can J Vet Res. 2026 Oct; 90(4):145-155.CJ
- The objective of this prospective alternating crossover study was to compare quality of induction and recovery and cardiopulmonary function in horses administered guaifenesin or diazepam as co-induction drugs. Six healthy horses were anesthetized twice to undergo an MRI and surgical biopsies, with 5 wk between treatments. Horses were sedated intravenously (IV) with xylazine, 0.6 mg/kg BW, and IV …
- ACBP/DBI Neutralization Stimulates Anticancer Immune Responses by Upregulating Lamin A in T Cells. [Journal Article]
- Acyl CoA binding protein (ACBP, encoded by the gene diazepam binding inhibitor, DBI) is a tissue stress hormone involved in pathological aging that mediates immunosuppression. The antibody-mediated neutralization of ACBP/DBI enhances anticancer immune responses in the context of chemoimmunotherapy. ACBP/DBI inhibition also upregulates the expression of the anti-aging gene Lmna coding for Lamin A …

- Autonomic Storm in a Patient With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in a Home-Care Setting. [Journal Article]
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) can cause autonomic storms characterized by blood pressure fluctuations, particularly in the advanced stages of the disease and among ventilator-dependent patients. Although benzodiazepines are used to manage these symptoms, the optimal agent is unclear. We present the case of a 78-year-old home-care patient with ventilator-dependent ALS who developed autonomic…

- Physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling of diazepam: quantitative assessment of hepatic impairment and model-informed dose optimization in patients with liver cirrhosis. [Journal Article]
- Diazepam is a widely prescribed benzodiazepine that undergoes extensive hepatic metabolism. Patients with liver cirrhosis may exhibit altered diazepam pharmacokinetics (PK), resulting in increased systemic exposure and a higher risk of adverse effects. This study aimed to develop a physiologically-based-pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model of diazepam and evaluate the impact of hepatic impairment on drug…

- Quantitative electroencephalographic comparison of intranasal midazolam, intranasal saline, and intrarectal diazepam in healthy dogs: A two-session, fixed-order pilot study. [Journal Article]Vet J. 2026 Sep 21; 320:106894. [Online ahead of print]VJ
- Benzodiazepines are the recommended first-line treatment for canine seizure emergencies, and non-parenteral routes are essential when intravenous access is unavailable. Clinical trials show that intranasal midazolam controls emergency seizures more reliably than rectal diazepam, yet the cortical electrophysiological correlates of these routes remain uncharacterised in dogs. In a two-session, fixe…

- CONCLUSIONS: Benzodiazepine prescribing in England continues to decline, reflecting successful deprescribing policies. However, increasing specialist use, persistent inequities, and drug-specific safety and cost concerns highlight the need for cautious prescribing, enhanced pharmacovigilance and equitable access.

- Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome following eclampsia in a primigravida at 35 weeks of gestation: A case report. [Case Reports]
- Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a reversible neurological disorder most commonly triggered by eclampsia and characterized on imaging by vasogenic edema, typically involving the parieto-occipital regions. We describe a 26-year-old primigravida at 35 weeks of gestation who presented with headache, dyspnea, and a generalized tonic-clonic seizure, with severe hypertension (200/…
