- Bedside HST and SVINT as Clinical Indicators Associated with Caloric DP and UW: A Retrospective Exploratory Study. [Journal Article]Audiol Res. 2026 Sep 29; 16(5).AR
- Background: Caloric testing provides quantitative measures of unilateral weakness (UW) and directional preponderance (DP). By contrast, skull vibration-induced nystagmus (SVINT) and the head-shaking test (HST) are bedside procedures that use different stimuli and operate within distinct temporal response domains. Objectives: This study was designed as a retrospective exploratory analysis of assoc…

- Integrating Metabolomics and Machine Learning Reveals Metabolic Signatures and Candidate Biomarkers for Vestibular Migraine. [Journal Article]J Proteome Res. 2026 Oct 02; 25(10):5146-5158.JP
- Vestibular migraine (VM) is an underrecognized disorder characterized by episodic vertigo, often accompanied by headache. Despite its substantial prevalence and disease burden, its metabolic features remain poorly characterized, and serum biomarkers for diagnosis or activity assessment are lacking. We performed untargeted metabolomics in discovery (33 VM vs 30 healthy controls [HCs]) and replicat…

- Sleep in Different Types of Dizziness. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Dizziness is not a homogeneous entity regarding sleep. The distinct signatures found suggest that clinical management should be tailored: screening for sleep apnea in BPPV, addressing the objective-subjective disconnect in PPPD via cognitive-behavioral approaches, and managing sleep deprivation and circadian regularity in VM.

- Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential Response Patterns for Characterizing Vestibular Dysfunction in Peripheral Vestibular Disorders. [Journal Article]J Vis Exp. 2026 Oct 16; (236).JV
- Ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential (oVEMP) testing provides electrophysiological information on otolithic and superior vestibular pathway function, but its clinical interpretation often remains limited to a binary normal-or-abnormal judgment. This study developed and applied a structured oVEMP response-pattern protocol, together with an exploratory, study-specific composite abnormality-b…

- Interpretable polar-flow decomposition for torsional nystagmus lateralization in posterior-canal BPPV. [Journal Article]Front Neurol. 2026; 17:1963383.FN
- CONCLUSIONS: The polar-flow framework enables physiologically interpretable and robust classification of pc-BPPV-related torsional-upbeat nystagmus. By explicitly decomposing eye movements into tangential and radial components, it provides reliable lateralization while demonstrating the potential for clinically meaningful temporal localization of abnormal nystagmus events.

- Cognitive impairment in patients with chronic unilateral vestibulopathy: A resting-state functional MRI study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In CUVP patients, abnormal functional activities mainly involved occipital and parietal lobes related to cognitive performance, while brain structure did not change, suggesting that functional brain alterations may be more sensitive than structural changes. These findings suggest potential neural correlates of vestibular-related cognitive decline that may be relevant to early stages of AD.

- Idiopathic facial neuropathy in cats: clinical presentation, magnetic resonance imaging findings, and outcome. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: Idiopathic facial neuropathy appears to affect mostly young cats, often unilaterally and frequently with vestibular signs. Spontaneous improvement is likely, but persistent neurologic deficits are possible.

- Subclinical neurological and balance abnormalities in late-onset auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) as a part of multisystem neurological presentation. [Journal Article]
- Auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) is primarily considered a hearing disorder, with balance issues rarely reported. Although some studies have investigated vestibular abnormalities in ANSD in addition to auditory deficits, the neurological aspects have largely been overlooked. Subtle balance deficits in individuals with ANSD often go unnoticed, which has resulted in limited research in …

- Technology-Based Vestibular Education. [Review]Neurol Clin. 2026 Nov; 44(4):713-728.NC
- Diagnostic errors in acute dizziness and vertigo contribute to high health care costs and poor patient outcomes, primarily due to insufficient clinician training in effective bedside examination skills. A critical barrier to improvement is the lack of scalable, high-quality training solutions. This article advocates for integration of technology to address this knowledge-to-practice gap. The pote…

- Novel Digital Tools for Clinical Research: Vestibular Simulation for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. [Review]Neurol Clin. 2026 Nov; 44(4):703-712.NC
- Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is the most prevalent peripheral vestibular disorder, yet important aspects of its diagnostic variability and treatment response remain incompletely understood. In recent years, advances in computational modeling have provided new opportunities to explore the biomechanical basis of otoconial displacement within the semicircular canals. This review examines the…

- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Eye Movements in Dizziness and Vertigo: A Comprehensive Review. [Review]Neurol Clin. 2026 Nov; 44(4):685-701.NC
- Dizziness and vertigo, common neurologic complaints, remain challenging to diagnose accurately in both emergency and outpatient settings. Although complex, these conditions frequently present with specific abnormalities of eye movement that contain precise signals allowing for localization and diagnosis. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have enabled automated a…

- This article examines the current and future role of decision-support systems and automation in vestibular diagnosis across emergency, primary care, and specialty settings. Vestibular disorders are common but often misdiagnosed because of overlapping symptoms, challenging bedside examinations, and limitations of neuroimaging. Structured diagnostic approaches improve accuracy when correctly applie…
