  • Using iPALM to determine protein organisation in cardiac muscle Z-discs. [Journal Article]

  • Sarcomeres, the basic repeating unit of striated muscle, are joined together by crosslinked actin filaments found at the boundaries of muscle sarcomeres, termed Z-discs. Z-discs play a key role in cardiac signalling and disease, however, the arrangement and function of many of the proteins present in the Z-disc remain to be understood. Here, we determined the organisation of 3 key proteins, ZASP,…
  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a Disease of Sarcomere Proteins. [Review]
    Methodist Debakey Cardiovasc J. 2026; 22(4):51-67.Marian AJMD
  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a primary disease of cardiac myocytes caused by mutations in genes encoding sarcomere proteins. The ensuing phenotype, however, is multicellular, induced by biological and functional changes in myocytes and non-myocyte cardiac cells, particularly fibroblasts. The molecular genetic basis of HCM has been partially elucidated, and over three dozen genes are impli…
  • Ten-Year Parapapillary Gamma Zone Expansion and Axial Elongation in High Myopia Based on SS-OCT Imaging. [Journal Article]
    Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci. 2026 Aug 03; 67(10):52.Wu Y, Liang Y, … Wang WIO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Progressive gamma zone enlargement is strongly associated with axial elongation in high myopia. Once the gamma zone exceeds a critical area threshold, the AL accelerates rapidly, likely reflecting compromised biomechanical counterforce from Bruch's membrane (BM). Longitudinal gamma zone monitoring may provide a valuable prognostic marker for identifying eyes at risk of accelerated and potentially irreversible myopic progression.
  • Left Ventricular Hypertrabeculation and Prognosis in Dilated Cardiomyopathy. [Multicenter Study]
    Circulation. 2026 Aug 04; 154(5):440-453.Mora-Ayestarán N, Ramos-Lopez N, … Garcia-Pavia PCirc
  • CONCLUSIONS: Although LV hypertrabeculation is common in DCM, it is not associated with worse outcomes and should not prompt differential clinical management. The embolic risk in patients with DCM and hypertrabeculation is low, including in those with reduced LV ejection fraction without atrial fibrillation, and does not support prophylactic anticoagulation in these patients.
  • Macula- Versus Disc-Centered Fundus Photography: Performance in Age-Prediction and Disease Associations. [Journal Article]
Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci. 2026 Jun 01; 67(6):24.Heatley AC, Enbiyaoglu M, … Wagner SKIO
  • CONCLUSIONS: Although fixation type influenced absolute age predictions, it did not significantly modify RAG-disease associations. These findings support the use of either fixation type in oculomics research where imaging flexibility is required, although formal interchangeability cannot be claimed given the systematic bias, heteroscedasticity, and subgroup variation in agreement identified. Prospective validation in population-based cohorts is required before clinical application can be achieved.
