- Informing pharmaceutical regulation in China: Risk-based priority ranking across nine river basins. [Journal Article]J Environ Manage. 2026 Oct 03; 418:131070. [Online ahead of print]JE
- Pharmaceuticals are widely detected in surface waters, posing significant ecological and human-health risks. China is a major producer and consumer of pharmaceuticals, and widespread contamination has been reported in its surface waters. Regional differences in topography, hydrology, land use, and socioeconomic conditions can shape patterns of pharmaceutical exposure and risk, calling for priorit…

- Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole and Azithromycin Resistance in Salmonella and Shigella: Genotype-Phenotype Concordance and Integron-MDR Association. [Journal Article]Infect Drug Resist. 2026; 19:633627.ID
- CONCLUSIONS: Shigella and Salmonella showed distinct resistance and resistance-gene profiles. The low PPV and 100% NPV of ermB, together with genotype-phenotype discordance, indicate that molecular testing cannot replace phenotypic susceptibility testing for azithromycin resistance, although ermB may have potential rule-out value pending external validation. The association between IntI1 and MDR supports further investigation of class 1 integrons in multidrug resistance.

- European society for organ transplantation clinical practice guideline on prevention and treatment of chronic lung allograft dysfunction. [Practice Guideline]Transpl Int. 2026; 39:16959.TI
- Chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) is the primary cause of late graft loss after lung transplantation, affecting up to half of lung transplant recipients within 5 years and presenting with heterogeneous phenotypes, most commonly bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) and restrictive allograft syndrome. Prevention and treatment of CLAD are challenging. This European Society for Organ Trans…

- Disseminated Nocardia otitidiscaviarum Presenting as Lung-Brain-Skin Syndrome in a Renal Transplant Recipient: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Sep; 18(9):e115600.C
- We present a case of disseminated Nocardia otitidiscaviarum infection in a 72-year-old male with a history of renal transplantation on chronic immunosuppressive therapy with prednisone, cyclosporine, and mycophenolate mofetil. He presented with pneumonia and was initially treated with ceftriaxone and azithromycin. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and cultures from a biopsied thigh lesion both grew N.…

- Polystyrene and Azithromycin Co-Contamination: Comparative Analysis of Microbial Shifts in the Rhizosphere vs. Bulk Soil under Wheat Growth. [Journal Article]
- The high rate of entry of microplastics (MPs) and pharmaceuticals into the agroecosystem leads to progressive accumulation within the soil year after year, raising concerns about both soil ecological health and crop productivity. The combined contamination of macrolide antibiotics and nanoplastics in the rhizosphere remains poorly understood. In this work, microbial shifts in the rhizosphere and …

- Complete genome sequence data of Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 17F isolated in Malaysia. [Journal Article]
- This study reports the genomic insights into a Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 17F isolate in Malaysia (IMRCC/SS430/25), collected from an adult patient with aspiration pneumonia in 2025. Phenotypic identification revealed characteristic alpha-haemolytic colonies and optochin susceptibility. Species identity as S. pneumoniae was further verified by bile solubility testing and the 17F serotype w…

- Antimicrobial resistance profiles and genomic diversity of vaginal Prevotella bivia isolates from South African women, including the first report of nimK in South African vaginal P. bivia isolates. [Journal Article]Anaerobe. 2026 Oct 01; :103086. [Online ahead of print]A
- CONCLUSIONS: Vaginal P. bivia isolates from South African women exhibited low genomic diversity, evidence of strain persistence and occasional co-colonisation with multiple P. bivia strains. Although resistance to standard bacterial vaginosis therapies remained low, the presence of mobile AMR determinants highlights the importance of continued genomic and phenotypic surveillance of vaginal P. bivia populations.

- Pulmonary pharmacokinetics and lesion penetration of antimicrobials in patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial disease. [Journal Article]Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2026 Oct 01; :e0082026. [Online ahead of print]AA
- The intrapulmonary pharmacokinetics of antimicrobial agents used to treat nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) pulmonary disease remains poorly characterized, limiting the optimization of dosing regimens. This study characterized the plasma and intrapulmonary pharmacokinetics of azithromycin, ethambutol, rifampicin, clofazimine, and amikacin, as well as their penetration into pulmonary lesion sites…

- Prevalence, Molecular Identification, and Antimicrobial Resistance Traits of Pasteurella multocida Isolated From Nasal Swabs of Buffaloes in Bangladesh. [Journal Article]
- Pasteurella multocida is an important bacterial respiratory pathogen of buffaloes and may cause major economic losses in the livestock sector. But there is a lack of data on its prevalence, risk factors, and antimicrobial resistance patterns in Bangladesh. The study was cross-sectional, and a total of 400 buffaloes from seven locations in Bangladesh were included in the nasal swab collection. Iso…

- Chlamydia prescribing trends in Australia before and after a national guideline update: a retrospective study of sentinel surveillance data, 2015-2025. [Journal Article]Sex Health. 2026 Oct 20; 23(5).SH
- CONCLUSIONS: Doxycycline prescribing for chlamydia has increased with corresponding declines in azithromycin use following the 2022 Australian treatment guideline change. Setting-specific implementation strategies may accelerate evidence uptake for future guideline updates.

- Reactive Infectious Mucocutaneous Eruption Following a Respiratory Infection in an Adolescent: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e115443.C
- Reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption (RIME) is a recently defined mucocutaneous manifestation associated with respiratory infections, most commonly reported secondary to Mycoplasma pneumoniae. The core diagnostic criteria of RIME involve greater than or equal to two mucosal areas with erosive mucositis, minimal cutaneous lesions, a recent infectious prodrome, and exclusion of drug-induced e…

- Assessing Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices of Dentists on Antibiotic Use for Pediatric Dental Infections in Bangladesh: A Cross-Sectional Study. [Journal Article]Health Sci Rep. 2026 Oct; 9(10):e73304.HS
- CONCLUSIONS: Dentists in Bangladesh report frequent antibiotic use for paediatric dental infections, often without confirmed alignment to clinical guidelines. Awareness of AMR is high, but this awareness does not consistently translate into cautious prescribing. Structured antibiotic stewardship guidance for paediatric dental practice is needed.

- Azithromycin (AZM) is a second generation macrolide, a semi-synthetic derivative of erythromycin. AZM accumulates extensively in cells and tissues, making the evaluation of potential off-target effects relevant when cellular exposure is prolonged or elevated. This study characterized the in vitro genotoxic, cytostatic, metabolic, and apoptotic effects of AZM in primary human peripheral blood lymp…
