- Varicella-zoster virus reactivation and cardiovascular risk: implications for patients receiving JAK inhibitors. [Review]Ann Rheum Dis. 2026 Jul 20. [Online ahead of print]AR
- Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is a neurotropic herpesvirus responsible for varicella and herpes zoster. Beyond its classical clinical manifestations, recent evidence shows that VZV reactivation may contribute to acute cardiovascular events. Vaccination reduces the incidence of herpes zoster and may confer cardiovascular benefits, although causality remains unproven. To summarise current evidence l…

- Willingness and influencing factors of herpes zoster vaccination intention among Chinese residents: a study based on framing effects. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1849221.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Framing effects on herpes zoster vaccination intention differed by gender and disease awareness. Gain-framed messages showed greater explanatory value in the full sample; however, loss-framed messages were associated with stronger vaccination intention among males and HZ-aware individuals, whereas no statistically significant framing effect was observed among females. The chain mediation pathways indicated statistically significant indirect associations among cognition, attitude, and behavioral intention, but did not confirm a psychological mechanism. Monthly income was identified as an important predictor of vaccination intention. These findings may provide a reference for developing more differentiated and targeted vaccine communication strategies.

- Real-World Safety and Herpes Zoster Outcomes After Recombinant Zoster Vaccination in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. [Journal Article]J Clin Med. 2026 Jul 07; 15(13).JC
- Background/Objectives: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at an increased risk of herpes zoster (HZ), particularly during immunosuppressive treatment. To assess the safety of the recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV, Shingrix[®]) and describe HZ occurrence in a real-world IBD cohort, including patients receiving advanced therapies. Methods: This prospective, single-centre observational…

- Recombinant zoster vaccine uptake and series completion among immunocompromised adults with cancer in the US. [Journal Article]BMC Cancer. 2026 Jul 13. [Online ahead of print]BC
- CONCLUSIONS: RZV uptake among RZV-naïve immunocompromised patients with cancers has been slow and suboptimal since the 2021 ACIP recommendation, but series completion is likely once initiated.

- Unlocking herpes zoster vaccination value in Finland: return on investment and actuarial model. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: RZV vaccination in working-age adults yielded economic benefits in Finland, generating €2.60-4.10 for society per €1 invested in vaccination, and with fiscal benefits offsetting 90% of vaccination costs.

- Sustained Delivery of a Shingles Subunit Vaccine Overcomes Age-Related Declines in Humoral and Cellular Immunity Relative to Shingrix. [Journal Article]Adv Sci (Weinh). 2026 Jul 13; :e76481. [Online ahead of print]AS
- The global aging population faces heightened vulnerability to infectious diseases due to immunosenescence, which diminishes the potency, durability, and breadth of vaccine-induced immunity. While the leading shingles vaccine, Shingrix, provides protection against herpes zoster virus for adults aged 50 and older, it is often associated with severe local and systemic reactogenicity, which limits va…

- Disseminated Varicella-Zoster Virus Infection Following a Live Attenuated Varicella Vaccine (Oka Strain) in a Patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Case Report. [Journal Article]Intern Med. 2026 Jul 11. [Online ahead of print]IM
- A 77-year-old woman was being treated for rheumatoid arthritis with prednisolone, methotrexate, and iguratimod. The patient was administered a live-attenuated varicella vaccine (Oka strain) for herpes zoster prevention by a primary care physician. Four weeks later, a vesicular rash appeared on the body. The patient was treated with amenamevir, and the rash improved. Based on the pathological find…

- Next-generation vaccine adjuvants: Integrating nanotechnology, systems immunology, and computational approaches for precision vaccinology. [Review]Hum Vaccin Immunother. 2026 Dec; 22(1):2684345.HV
- Vaccines based on purified antigens, recombinant proteins, and nucleic acid platforms increasingly depend on adjuvants to induce robust, durable, and appropriately polarized immune responses in humans. While classical adjuvants such as aluminum salts and oil-in-water emulsions have enabled the success of many licensed vaccines, their largely empirical design limits adaptability to emerging pathog…

- Recombinant zoster vaccine immunization rate in patients on Janus kinase inhibitors for rheumatologic and dermatologic conditions. [Journal Article]Rheumatol Adv Pract. 2026; 10(3):rkag071.RA
- CONCLUSIONS: Many patients receiving JAK inhibitors are not vaccinated with RZV, and of those who are vaccinated, the timing of vaccination rarely coincided with JAK inhibitor initiation and thus did not appear to be the motivation for vaccination. These data will be used to optimize vaccination workflow within ambulatory clinics to mitigate herpes zoster risk in this population.

- Influenza and herpes zoster vaccine effectiveness in autoimmune or immune-mediated diseases. [Journal Article]J Infect Public Health. 2026 Aug; 19(8):103296.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: There was no evidence that VE differs meaningfully between individuals with and without AID, conditional on the included confounders. Both vaccines were similarly effective across groups, suggesting that VE is not reduced in MS, IBD, or CIRD patients. Further research is necessary to validate these findings for other AID and infections.

- Alpha-herpesvirus UL55 synergizes with ICP27 to suppress type I interferon production through conserved and host-adapted mechanisms. [Journal Article]J Virol. 2026 Jun 30; :e0065326. [Online ahead of print]JV
- Herpesviruses employ sophisticated immune evasion strategies to establish lifelong infections, subverting type I interferon (IFN-I) responses critical for antiviral defense. However, their adaptive mechanisms across species remain poorly characterized. Using duck plague virus (DPV)-an avian alphaherpesvirus model-we identify a cooperative immune evasion axis wherein ICP27 orchestrates UL55-mediat…

- Cost-Effectiveness of Vaccine for the Prevention of Herpes Zoster in Kidney Transplant Recipients in Thailand. [Journal Article]Value Health Reg Issues. 2026 Jun 30; :101665. [Online ahead of print]VH
- CONCLUSIONS: ZVL was not cost-effective but close to being cost-effective based on the Thai WTP threshold, although its use is limited in immunocompromised patients. RZV offers high efficacy, but its cost-effectiveness is currently suboptimal. These findings support tailored vaccination strategies for high-risk groups in resource-limited settings.
