- Association Between Appetite and Physical Activity in Community-Dwelling Older Adults: Focusing on Activity Intensity and Duration. [Journal Article]J Aging Phys Act. 2026 Aug 14; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: No association was observed between objectively measured physical activity and appetite among community-dwelling older adults. Appetite was significantly associated with depressive symptoms. These findings highlight the importance of addressing psychological factors, such as depression, for maintaining or improving appetite in older adults. Significance/Implications: Interventions targeting psychological factors might be important for maintaining and improving appetite in older adults.

- Within-person associations of reallocating recreational screen time to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity with depressive symptoms among university students with disabilities: an intensive longitudinal study. [Journal Article]Front Public Health. 2026; 14:1813735.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: The estimated within-person association between modeled reallocation of recreational screen time to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and daily PHQ-8 scores varied across the conditional outcome distribution, with larger negative coefficients at higher conditional quantiles. These observational findings are hypothesis-generating and should not be interpreted as causal effects, clinical benefits, or a basis for subgroup targeting or resource allocation.

- Association of accelerometer-measured physical activity and the risk of incident cardiovascular diseases within the AHA cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome 0-4 framework: a prospective cohort of the UK Biobank. [Journal Article]Front Endocrinol (Lausanne). 2026; 17:1844167.FE
- CONCLUSIONS: Associations between physical activity and incident CVD differ across CKM stages 0-3. These stage-specific differences for LPA and MVPA warrant further validation to inform future guidelines.

- Childhood-onset neurodegeneration and brain atrophy: defining UBTF-related developmental regression and progressive ataxia. [Journal Article]J Med Genet. 2026 Aug 14. [Online ahead of print]JM
- CONCLUSIONS: UBTF-related CONDBA presents with early normal or mildly delayed development followed by regression and progressive ataxia. Wearable accelerometers provide a reliable measure of disease severity, and elevated NFL may serve as a biomarker of neuronal injury in both humans and animal models.

- Advanced footwear technology improves sprinting mechanics and performance. [Journal Article]J Appl Physiol (1985). 2026 Aug 14. [Online ahead of print]JA
- Sprint running performances have improved with the use of advanced footwear technology, but the mechanisms responsible are unknown. Here, we tested two hypothesized mechanisms: 1) faster maximal speeds resulting from greater ground force application, and 2) associated contact time decreases, and step length increases that could enable faster late-race velocities. Ten track and five soccer athlete…

- Relationships between falls risk, gait speed, and head-trunk control in people with Parkinson's disease and elderly. [Journal Article]Clin Biomech (Bristol). 2026 Aug 12; 139:106945. [Online ahead of print]CB
- CONCLUSIONS: Walking speed largely drives sagittal plane trunk and VT head accelerations in PwPD and healthy elderly. While ML trunk and transverse plane head accelerations are largely dependent on individual differences in postural control. Falls risk manifests differently in self-selected speed and trunk and head accelerations in PwPD and healthy elderly.

- Executive Dysfunction in Children with ADHD and Sleep Problems: Does Physical Activity Matter? [Journal Article]Med Sci Sports Exerc. 2026 Aug 14. [Online ahead of print]MS
- CONCLUSIONS: Daytime dysfunction predicts poorer cognitive flexibility only in children with ADHD who engage in low PA levels. Further investigation is warranted to determine whether adherence to MVPA guidelines can mitigate sleep problems and executive dysfunction.

- Age-Specific Associations of Moderate-to-Vigorous Physical Activity With Relative and Absolute Risk of Type 2 Diabetes in UK Biobank Participants. [Journal Article]Diabetes Obes Metab. 2026 Aug 13. [Online ahead of print]DO
- CONCLUSIONS: The relative association between higher MVPA volume and lower type 2 diabetes risk attenuated with age and was weaker among individuals with prediabetes, whereas absolute risk reductions were larger among older and metabolically higher-risk individuals. These findings support considering both relative and absolute measures when targeting MVPA interventions for type 2 diabetes prevention.

- Association of Accelerometer-Measured Light-Intensity Physical Activity with Cardiovascular Diseases: A Large Cohort Study. [Journal Article]Health Data Sci. 2026; 6:0470.HD
- Background: Light-intensity physical activity (LPA) constitutes a substantial portion of daily activities; however, it is more challenging to record and measure accurately compared to moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA). Consequently, the health benefits associated with LPA are frequently overlooked. Our study aimed to investigate the associations of LPA pattern including obj…

- Velocity-Aided Navigation in GNSS-Denied Environments. [Journal Article]
- The Velocity-Aided Navigation (VAN) method for determining latitude, longitude, and altitude is proposed when global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals are unavailable. Currently, GNSS receivers are the primary navigation systems that meet consumer demand for location accuracy. However, GNSS receivers are not autonomous. Strapdown inertial navigation systems (SINSs), unlike GNSSs, are aut…

- A Novel Approach to Characterizing Patterns of Real-World Upper-Extremity Use During Walking and Activities of Daily Living in People with Subacute Stroke. [Journal Article]
- In accelerometer-based measurement, the inclusion of upper extremity (UE) activity during walking can overestimate real-world functional UE use in people post-stroke. This study introduces a comprehensive, accelerometer-based approach to examining real-world UE use, including the contribution of UE activity during walking, and compares UE use during walking versus ADL-based activities. - Precision and Error Propagation in Static MEMS-IMU Inertial Navigation: A Stochastic Time-Series Analysis. [Journal Article]
- This paper investigates the precision and stochastic error propagation of navigation solutions obtained from a low-cost microelectromechanical system inertial measurement unit (MEMS-IMU) under static conditions. A modern smartphone equipped with an MEMS-IMU was rigidly mounted at a calibrated fixed location to establish a zero-reference scenario, and inertial measurements were collected while the…
