- Functional Listening Experiences of Autistic College Students: A Qualitative Study of Real-World Listening Demands. [Journal Article]Am J Audiol. 2026 Oct 12; :1-15. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Listening effort may represent an underrecognized barrier to educational participation for autistic college students. The present findings extend the existing frameworks of effortful listening by illustrating how cognitive, emotional, sensory, and social factors interact to shape listening experiences in real-world contexts. Importantly, these findings illustrate the value of incorporating lived experiences to better reflect the variability and subjective nature of listening, which traditional assessments may not fully reflect. For clinicians and educators, considering the contexts in which listening occurs alongside patient-reported experiences may support a more comprehensive understanding of listening-related demands and extend considerations beyond traditional auditory accommodations to improve education and communication participation.

- Anticipating the unpredictable: A qualitative study on ethics experts' perspectives on review challenges related to AI. [Journal Article]Account Res. 2026 Oct 08; :2744222. [Online ahead of print]AR
- CONCLUSIONS: We argue that AI highlights epistemic, temporal, and procedural limitations of existing ethics review systems. These findings suggest that ethics review of AI research may benefit from more anticipatory and flexible ethical governance, including iterative review mechanisms, interdisciplinary expertise, and continuous ethical engagement throughout the research process.

- The double-edged sword of rotational shift work: a qualitative study of worker perceptions in Saudi Arabia. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: These findings extend JD-R theory into a non-Western, non-healthcare shift work context, revealing that culturally specific demands, particularly religious and social obligations, constitute a distinct and underexamined category of psychosocial burden, with implications for organizational policies addressing sleep hygiene, religious accommodation, and structured career development for shift workers.

- Between opportunity and equity: navigating medical tourism in Türkiye's public hospitals. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Stakeholders viewed selected public hospitals as possible settings for medical tourism, but physical infrastructure alone was not considered evidence of operational readiness. Public-sector involvement would require hospital-specific assessment of workforce capacity, financing, governance, local patient access, and equity implications. Given the uncertainty surrounding funding sources, net public benefit, and public acceptability, any expansion should be preceded by feasibility, budget-impact, and equity assessments and should initially be considered only in institutions with demonstrable excess capacity.

- Implementing Everyday Life Rehabilitation (ELR) in Supported Housing for Individuals with Serious Mental Illness: Occupational Therapists' Experiences of Professional Discretion During Early Implementation. [Journal Article]J Evid Based Soc Work (2019). 2026 Sep 29; :1-22. [Online ahead of print]JE

- When Dying Patients Fall Silent: How Nurses Navigate Decision-Making in the Last Days of Life-A Qualitative Study. [Journal Article]J Adv Nurs. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Nurses' decision-making when caring for the unresponsive dying patient is complex. Decision-making evolves through the nurse's intentionality in assessment, communication skills, accommodation of uncertainty, and through implicit ethical and moral agency. Recognising the vulnerability of unresponsive dying patients is essential to supporting person-centred care.

- Becoming a physician-scientist: Early research participation as an identity sandbox for preclinical medical students. [Journal Article]Med Educ. 2026 Sep 28. [Online ahead of print]ME
- CONCLUSIONS: Early research experiences became identity relevant when students participated meaningfully, were supported and recognised within their teams, and could explore physician-scientist futures without premature commitment. We conceptualise this exploratory space as an identity sandbox: a provisional and revisable context for assessing whether research felt achievable, meaningful and sustainable. Programmes may support PIF through legitimate participation, relational inclusion and flexible structures that help students evaluate research as part of their future professional lives.

- People experiencing homelessness face profound health inequalities, including high rates of mental and physical illness, problematic substance use, injury and reduced life expectancy. - Possible Role and Function of AI Conversational Agents in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder: Qualitative Interview Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Perceived benefits mainly centered on accessibility and support for DBT skills generalization, whereas key concerns involved alliance disruption, reinforcement of behaviors that would ideally be targeted for change, dependency, and questions regarding responsibility in high-risk situations. Integrating AI-CA into DBT is not only a technical question but a relational and ethical one. How AI-CA is positioned in relation to the therapist, person in treatment, and team shapes which tasks are considered acceptable and what form integration can take. The findings highlight the need for implementation frameworks that account for relational dynamics, treatment-specific considerations, and AI functional ambiguity that may arise when AI-CA operates in complex therapeutic contexts.

- CONCLUSIONS: Students frequently chose concealment over support because the perceived costs of disclosure outweighed the uncertain and stigmatising accommodation processes. Dismantling ableism requires structural change: normalising disability as professional diversity, embedding universal design for learning, reforming fitness-to-practise standards and building confidential, trustworthy disclosure pathways.
