  • Mitochondrial Inflammation and Muscle Aging: Targeting the Inflammatory Microenvironment in Sarcopenic Muscle. [Review]
Aging Dis. 2026 Aug 03. [Online ahead of print]Wang X, Erasmus S, … Fang LAD
  • Sarcopenia is an age-related progressive degenerative disorder of skeletal muscle characterized by declining muscle mass, strength, and function. Increasing evidence indicates that chronic low-grade inflammation plays an important contributory role in its pathogenesis. The inflammatory microenvironment contributes to sarcopenia through complex interactions involving cellular senescence, mitochond…
  • Sex as a Missing Moderator in the Dual-Pathway Neuroprotection Hypothesis. [Journal Article]
Aging Dis. 2026 Aug 10. [Online ahead of print]Gong Z, Xiang L, … Xiang ZAD
  • The Dual-Pathway Neuroprotection Hypothesis, recently proposed by Badea and colleagues, distinguishes voluntary from enforced exercise and links each to distinct neural pathways, moving beyond the unitary view of exercise as a homogeneous intervention. However, the hypothesis does not consider sex as a biological variable. Given that AD is a sex-biased disease affecting approximately 65-70% women…
  • A Hybrid Lifestyle Program and Metabolic Health in Adults With Obesity: The PRAMEV Randomized Clinical Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]
JAMA Netw Open. 2026 Aug 03; 9(8):e2626884.Souza de Menezes Amorim Coelho G, Fernandes AE, … de Melo MEJN
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this randomized clinical trial of 200 adults with obesity receiving care in Brazil's public health care system, a hybrid-format lifestyle intervention did not improve the likelihood of achieving 5% or greater weight loss in the intention-to-treat analysis. However, secondary and per-protocol analyses suggested potential cardiometabolic benefits among adherent participants, warranting further investigation.
  • Usability and reliability of high-contrast adapted Rating of Perceived Exertion scales for sports participants with low vision. [Journal Article]
Disabil Rehabil Assist Technol. 2026 Aug 11; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]Lima C, Alves Dantas JG, … Kons RLDR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Overall, these findings suggest that high-contrast adaptations of the RPE scale may improve perceived usability and affective responses among participants with low vision, while maintaining consistent reliability of these responses. These results reinforce the importance of accessible design in exercise assessment tools and support the potential use of adapted RPE scales in Para sport contexts to promote greater independence and inclusion.
  • The Role of Training Age and Sport Specialization in Achieved Selection Tier in Adolescent Handball Talents. [Journal Article]
    Sports Med Open. 2026 Aug 11; 12(1).Thieschäfer L, Schorer J, … Büsch DSM
  • CONCLUSIONS: In light of the players' mid-teen age, the high prevalence rates of sport specialization were as expected. Nevertheless, the relatively high proportion of single-sport players may give cause for concern, particularly given that multisport engagement did not impede players from reaching high selection tiers. In fact, multisport engagement can be considered a viable alternative developmental pathway toward adult high performance. Furthermore, training age was associated with selection tier. Consequently, having a high training age may increase the likelihood of being selected as a "talent" which should be considered in talent selection processes.
  • Temporal effects of exercise on retrieval-induced forgetting. [Journal Article]
Psychol Res. 2026 Aug 11; 90(4).Loprinzi PD, Shopeju DO, Storm BCPR
  • Retrieval-induced forgetting (RIF) refers to the phenomenon whereby selectively retrieving some information impairs later recall of related, non-retrieved information, often interpreted as reflecting inhibitory control processes during memory retrieval. Recent work suggested that acute aerobic exercise performed between repeated memory tests may preserve the RIF effect over time. The present stud…
