- Upper Airway Muscle Stiffness in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Assessed by Shear Wave Elastography. [Journal Article]J Ultrasound Med. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]JU
- CONCLUSIONS: SWE may provide a useful non-invasive tool for evaluating upper airway muscle characteristics in OSA. Associations between upper airway muscle stiffness and polysomnographic parameters were observed; however, these cross-sectional findings should be considered exploratory and hypothesis-generating, requiring confirmation in larger studies.

- Lighting and circadian cues shape locomotor strategies for balance and navigation in larval zebrafish. [Journal Article]Proc Biol Sci. 2026 Oct 14; 293(2080).PB
- Most fish are inherently unstable and must swim to stabilize posture. How diurnal fish reduce activity at night while maintaining postural control remains unclear. We defined distinct locomotor strategies that larval zebrafish (Danio rerio) use to control posture and navigate the water column in response to light and circadian cues. In the dark, larvae maintain balance by swimming in long bouts w…

- Feasibility of Online and On-Site Physical Activity Delivery Among Older Adults: Mixed Methods Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]JMIR Form Res. 2026 Oct 13; 10:e97824.JF
- CONCLUSIONS: Both online and on-site delivery modes for PA interventions appeared feasible for many older adults. Although no statistically significant between-group differences were observed, the study was not powered to evaluate effectiveness. Feasibility may depend more on supporting capability, opportunity, and motivation than on delivery mode. Larger, adequately powered trials are needed to test effectiveness, identify optimal formats for different populations, and evaluate strategies to reduce early attrition.

- Ear-Worn Inertial Measurement of Sit-to-Stand and Sit-to-Walk Movements: Algorithm Development and Validation. [Journal Article]J Med Internet Res. 2026 Oct 13; 28:e100936.JM
- CONCLUSIONS: The ear-worn IMUs extracted a broad range of sit-to-stand and sit-to-walk outcome measures, although agreement with the optical reference varied between measures. Temporal outcomes demonstrated the closest agreement, whereas kinematic, power, and fluency measures showed varying degrees of systematic and proportional disagreement. These findings support the feasibility of using ear-worn IMUs for comprehensive functional movement assessment and provide a basis for subsequent validation of the most robust outcomes in clinically relevant populations.

- From muscle fibres to muscle gears: how dynamic fascicle orientation and shape change impact skeletal muscle function. [Journal Article]Biol Rev Camb Philos Soc. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]BR
- Skeletal muscle architectural design strongly affects force-generating capacity and excursion range, and its functional importance to animal and human movement is well founded. Traditionally, this 'structure-function relation' has been inferred from architecture measurements with muscles at rest (from anatomical dissections or medical imaging techniques such as ultrasonography or magnetic resonan…

- A high-dimensional population code in the bat motor cortex during natural dexterous flight. [Journal Article]Cell. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]Cell
- Elucidating the neural computations underlying natural, complex movement remains a fundamental challenge in neuroscience. Bat flight presents a formidable motor control challenge, requiring hand-like wings whose many degrees of freedom must be precisely coordinated to enable rapid three-dimensional (3D) maneuvers. Here, we performed large-scale wireless recordings from the wing motor cortex of fr…

- Moderate-to-loud in-ear music worsens ventilatory efficiency and running biomechanics during fixed-speed treadmill running: a sex-stratified randomized crossover study. [Journal Article]Appl Physiol Nutr Metab. 2026 Oct 13. [Online ahead of print]AP
- Despite widespread use of in-ear music during running, its effects on ventilatory efficiency and biomechanics remain unclear. This study examined whether moderate-to-loud (85 dB SPL) in-ear tempo music affects ventilatory efficiency, running economy (RE), and spatiotemporal biomechanics during fixed-speed treadmill running, and whether responses differ by sex. Thirty-two recreationally active par…

- PSMC2 Promotes Gallbladder Carcinoma Progression by Regulating the AKT/Cyclin D1/CDK6 Signaling Axis. [Journal Article]Crit Rev Immunol. 2026; 46(3):45-56.CR
- Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a prevalent and aggressive malignancy of the biliary system. Studies have revealed that Proteasome 26S subunit ATPase 2 (PSMC2) is overexpressed and associated with the development process of several cancers. However, the specific role in GBC remains unknown. This study aims to explore the association between PSMC2 and GBC pathogenesis. We assessed PSMC2 expression fro…

- AbstractClimate change is raising temperatures in aquatic habitats and shifting the frequency and severity of precipitation events. In fishes, metabolic demands increase under warmer conditions, which may limit the ability of fishes to survive the physical and metabolic demands of high-water flow events if extreme rainfall occurs during periods of high temperature. Here, we investigated how tempe…
