- Death of a female 'drug mule' from peritonitis: A case report and literature review. [Journal Article]Med Leg J. 2026 Jul 11; :258172261443898. [Online ahead of print]ML
- Concealing drugs inside the body to transport them covertly, known as 'body packing', can be fatal. Intestinal occlusion and poisoning are common; fatal gastric perforation is unusual. We present a rare case involving a 54-year-old female 'drug mule' (body packer) who died from peritonitis resulting from gastric perforation. The deceased (from Sweden) was discovered dead in her hotel room. A fore…

- Acute massive gastric dilatation with necrosis and portal vein gas accumulation-a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1796420.FM
- Acute gastric distension (AGD) is a rare but life-threatening acute abdominal condition. Despite the rich blood supply to the stomach, extreme distension can lead to ischemic necrosis, perforation, and gas accumulation in the portal vein, with a mortality rate as high as 80-100%. We report the case of a 15-year-old male patient who presented with severe abdominal pain, bloating, and vomiting foll…

- An "All-in-One" Kidney Biopsy in AIDS: Crescentic Immune Complex-Mediated Glomerulonephritis, CD8-Driven Interstitial Nephritis, and Superimposed Thrombotic Microangiopathy. [Case Reports]Glomerular Dis. 2026 Jan-Dec; 6(1):216-221.GD
- CONCLUSIONS: This case represents a rare "all-in-one" manifestation involving glomerular, interstitial, and vascular injury. These findings underscore profound immune dysregulation in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), where immune deficiency coexists with compartmentalized immune activation. Recognition of overlapping pathology is essential for accurate diagnosis and individualized, risk-adapted management.

- Elective interval appendectomy following non-operative management for uncomplicated acute appendicitis: a feasible same-day discharge strategy in children. [Journal Article]

- Transplant renal artery thrombosis caused by acute rejection : a case report. [Journal Article]BMC Nephrol. 2026 Jul 01. [Online ahead of print]BN
- CONCLUSIONS: This case illustrates that late-onset RAAT can serve as a catastrophic complication of acute ABMR. Furthermore, it highlights the clinical utility of dd-cfDNA as a non-invasive diagnostic adjunct when biopsy is contraindicated, and underscores the complex management dilemmas arising from concurrent graft failure and severe drug toxicity, which ultimately necessitate a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach.

- Torsion of the Vermiform Appendix in an 18-Day-Old Neonate: A Case Report from Romania and Review of the Literature. [Case Reports]Reports (MDPI). 2026 Jun 10; 9(2).R
- Background and Clinical Significance: Torsion of the vermiform appendix is a rare condition with a clinical presentation closely resembling acute appendicitis, while preoperative investigations are of limited value in distinguishing between the two entities. In most cases, the definitive diagnosis is made incidentally during surgery. Case Presentation: The authors present the case of an 18-day-ol…

- Poststreptococcal acute glomerulonephritis superimposed on chronic kidney disease due to dysplastic kidney in an 11-year-old boy. [Case Reports]
- We report an 11-year-old boy with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 3 due to right multicystic dysplastic kidney and contralateral dysplasia who developed poststreptococcal acute glomerulonephritis (PSAGN) that rapidly progressed to kidney failure despite intensive immunosuppressive treatment. He presented with oliguria, macrohematuria, heavy proteinuria, hypocomplementemia, and an elevated anti…

- Acute Abdomen Secondary to Ileal Perforation As the Initial Presentation of Advanced Müllerian Malignancy With Hepatic Metastasis: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108962.C
- Acute abdomen in elderly postmenopausal women requires prompt evaluation to exclude life-threatening conditions such as bowel perforation, intra-abdominal sepsis, and malignancy. Advanced gynecological malignancies may involve the gastrointestinal tract, commonly through peritoneal dissemination or direct invasion. However, presentation as bowel perforation is rare and associated with significant…

- Perforated Ileal Diverticulitis Presenting With Acute Peritonitis in an Elderly Patient: A Case Report. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 May; 18(5):e108983.C
- Ileal diverticulitis is an uncommon cause of acute abdomen, and perforation is a rare but serious complication that may lead to secondary peritonitis. Its clinical presentation is often nonspecific and may mimic more common intra-abdominal emergencies, making computed tomography (CT) essential for diagnosis. We report the case of a 79-year-old man who presented with a three-day history of diffuse…

- Pneumoperitoneum of the lower gastrointestinal tract. [Review]Rozhl Chir. 2026; 105(5):212-216.RC
- Pneumoperitoneum due to lower gastrointestinal perforation is an acute clinical situation requiring rapid dia-gnosis and treatment. This condition is often the result of dis-eases such as diverticulitis, malignant tumors, Crohn's dis-ease, or complications of endoscopic examination methods and surgical procedures. If this condition is not treated promptly, it can lead to life-threatening complica…

- Isolated Rectal Wall Necrosis Presenting with Septic Shock: A Rare Manifestation of Non-Occlusive Ischaemia. [Journal Article]Eur J Case Rep Intern Med. 2026; 13(6):006620.EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Isolated rectal ischaemia is exceptionally rare but should be considered in critically ill patients presenting with abdominal pain, septic shock and signs of peritonitis or bowel perforation.Non-occlusive mesenteric ischaemia may involve even well-perfused segments such as the rectum, as mesenteric vasoconstriction leads to severe splanchnic hypoperfusion and rapid progression to transmural necrosis and perforation. In haemodynamically unstable patients, CT findings may underestimate the extent of ischaemic bowel injury; early recognition and prompt source control are crucial for survival.

- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the diagnostic pitfall of SCM mimicking ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. It demonstrates that early recognition, definitive source control, and a comprehensive, multimodal support strategy are critical for a favorable outcome, even in life-threatening SCM.

- Fruit pit mimicking gallstone ileus: A diagnostic pitfall on CT-Case report. [Case Reports]Radiol Case Rep. 2026 Aug; 21(8):3413-3418.RC
- Small bowel obstruction due to ingested fruit pits is rare and often underrecognized. In exceptional cases, these foreign bodies may mimic the clinical and imaging features of gallstone ileus, a complication of cholelithiasis involving biliary-enteric fistula formation and gallstone migration into the intestinal lumen. Such presentations may lead to misdiagnosis and inappropriate management. This…
