- Ayurvedic management of Non-Sjögren's Dry Eye (Shushkakshipaka) as a preparation for cataract surgery-a case report. [Case Reports]
- This case report describes Shushkakshipaka (Non-Sjögren's Aqueous Deficient Dry Eye - Non-Sjögren's ADDE) in a patient unfit for cataract surgery due to compromised ocular surface integrity. A 73-year-old woman presented with ocular irritation, foreign body sensation, and blurred distant vision for three months. She had a six-year history of type II diabetes mellitus and hypertension, controlled.…

- Ophthalmic Treatments and Evolving Management of Sjögren's Disease: An Overview. [Review]
- Background: Sjögren's disease (SjD) causes severe ocular surface desiccation, progressing from aqueous-deficient dry eye (ADDE) to vision-threatening corneal ulceration, stromal melting, and perforation. Recent consensus guidelines and therapeutic innovations have transformed ophthalmic diagnosis and management. Methods: A comprehensive narrative overview of PubMed and Google Scholar (July 2016-J…

- Structural and mechanical insights into the extracellular matrix of the aging human lacrimal gland for tissue engineering applications. [Journal Article]Acta Biomater. 2026 Sep 15. [Online ahead of print]AB
- Aqueous-deficient dry eye disease (ADDE) frequently results from structural and functional impairment of the lacrimal gland. Regenerative approaches require biomaterials that replicate the extracellular matrix (ECM) composition and biomechanical properties of native lacrimal gland tissue. However, quantitative data on the ECM composition and large-strain biomechanics of the human lacrimal gland r…

- Remote Early Follow-Up: Home Videos Enabled Reliable General Movement Assessment With Only Weak Association With the Ages and Stages Questionnaire. [Journal Article]Acta Paediatr. 2026 Sep 08. [Online ahead of print]AP
- CONCLUSIONS: Home videos enabled reliable early GMA assessments for cerebral palsy risks. ASQ and GMA classifications showed weak associations.

- Association of IL-8 and IL-18 Expression With Histone-Associated NETosis in Aqueous-Deficient and Evaporative Dry Eye Disease. [Journal Article]Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci. 2026 Aug 03; 67(10):8.IO
- CONCLUSIONS: Our study shows that neutrophil-mediated inflammation and NETosis in DED may be associated with elevated IL-8, IL-18, and histone proteins in ADDE and EDE, which could be potential biomarkers or therapeutic targets.

- Limited Efficacy of Autologous Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Injections in Immunomodulatory-Dependent Dogs With Aqueous Deficient Dry Eye Disease. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Autologous MSC injections were well-tolerated in dogs with ADDE. Results were variable in this small sample size. Despite initial improvement in 3 of 4 dogs, the positive response was variable in magnitude of response and duration of effect. Repeated injections did not sustain this response. Future studies using conditioned MSCs and/or exosomal therapy are warranted.

- Intrinsic regeneration mechanisms of murine lacrimal gland epithelial cells for therapeutic applications in aqueous-deficient dry eye disease. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Jul; 41:233-248.OS
- CONCLUSIONS: These results identify MAPK signaling as a major component of the intrinsic epithelial injury response in lacrimal gland cells. HBEGF and AREG emerged as prominent mediators associated with enhanced recovery. The findings provide a mechanistic basis for developing defined growth factor-based approaches to support lacrimal gland epithelial regeneration.

- Lacrimal gland spheroids in tissue specific hydrogel for dry eye modelling. [Journal Article]Ocul Surf. 2026 Apr; 40:195-205.OS
- A profound understanding of the physiology of the lacrimal gland is essential for developing regenerative therapies for aqueous deficient dry eye syndrome (ADDE). This study presents a reproducible, high-throughput method to generate functional spheroids of the lacrimal gland as building blocks for a three-dimensional (3D) in vitro model. Co-culturing primary lacrimal gland epithelial cells (EpC)…

- A unified plant ecology database for Spain. [Journal Article]
- We present a new database providing spatial data to support plant ecological research and conservation throughout mainland Spain. It integrates high-resolution spatial data of four main categories: (I) plant occurrence data, (II) environmental variables, (III) species distribution models, and (IV) thematic maps for conservation and management. The occurrence dataset includes georeferenced records…

- Illness explanatory models of depression among young people in low-resource settings: A qualitative study in Ghana and Zimbabwe. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides a culturally grounded understanding of how young people in Ghana and Zimbabwe conceptualise depression, shaped by both emic and etic influences. Participants described depression using local idioms and spiritual explanations, while also recognising biomedical symptoms and socio-economic stressors. These findings underscore the need for interventions that integrate traditional beliefs with evidence-based approaches. Implementing multi-stakeholder approaches that engage families, schools, and spiritual leaders may be critical in reducing stigma, improving care access, and enhancing depression outcomes for young people.

- Toward Biomarker Discovery for Early Cerebral Palsy Detection: Evaluating Explanations Through Kinematic Perturbations. [Journal Article]IEEE Trans Neural Syst Rehabil Eng. 2026; 34:750-766.IT
- Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a prevalent motor disability in children, for which early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes. While skeleton-based Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) models have shown promise in automatically predicting CP risk from infant videos, their "black-box" nature raises concerns about clinical explainability. To address this, we introduce a perturbation framewor…

- Identifying robust area-based conservation strategies to secure ecosystem service provision under uncertainties. [Journal Article]J Environ Manage. 2026 Jan 15; 398:128395.JE
- Area-based conservation remains the principal strategy for preserving biodiversity, yet current planning approaches inadequately consider two critical uncertainties: future trajectories of socio-environmental drivers of environmental degradation and preferences for alternate conservation objectives. This study demonstrates how spatial conservation prioritization can be integrated with scenario-ba…

- Advancing species-based predictions of Nature's contributions to people. [Review]Trends Ecol Evol. 2026 Mar; 41(3):219-229.TE
- Nature's contributions to people (NCP) are essential for human wellbeing, yet most assessments still rely on land-cover indicators that overlook how biodiversity supports these contributions. We propose that species-level data, widely used in biodiversity mapping, can better inform direct NCP prediction through the development of species' contributions to people (SCP). Linking species to NCP thro…

- Cyclic extranasal neurostimulation for dry eye disease: a 4-week stimulation and 6-week intermission regimen based on neural adaptation dynamics. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Based on neural adaptation and recovery characteristics, a cyclic regimen of 4-week extranasal neurostimulation followed by a 6-week intermission is proposed as a potentially effective and sustainable clinical strategy for managing ADDE. This approach synchronizes treatment with the nervous system's intrinsic recovery cycles, addressing limitations of continuous stimulation paradigms.
