Robot-assisted operations for non-organ retroperitoneal tumors were performed in 20 patients. The biggest tumor's diameter was 160 mm, the smallest--32 mm, mean value was 79.1±37.8 mm. According to morphological investigation data lymphangioma was diagnosed in 4 (20%) patients, lipoma--in 3 (15%) cases, peritoneal cyst--in 2 (10%) patients. Solitary lymphatic node, teratoma, leiomyosarcoma, accessory stomach, bronchogenic cyst, adenogenous cancer, ureterocele, megaureter, schwannoma, leiomyoma, malignant paraganglioma were observed in 1 (5%) case respectively.

Bioptates and resected material from patients treated for cancer of the esophagus at the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology in 1980-1989 were analysed. Adenogenic tumors made up 6.0% of the 1671 cases of esophageal cancer studied. A gradual increase in the percentage of adenogenic cancers was established (P < 0.05). A group of 100 cases of adenogenic cancers was examined in detail. Adenocarcinoma made up 5.3%, adenosquamous cancer--0.5 and adenocystic cancer--0.2%. Adenogenic cancers most often occurred in the lower thoracic part of the organ. Poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma predominated (56.8%), with a tendency to an increase in the tumor occurrence in the upper and mid-thoracic parts. The enhanced morbidity from adenogenic cancers is attributed to a high occurrence of esophagitis in the majority of regions of Kazakhstan.

The authors consider the most promising long-term results to be achieved in treatment of patients with highly differentiated adenocarcinomas, size of the tumor up to 60 cm and growth of the tumor into the muscle level. The prognosis was doubtful in patients after radical operations but having average degree of differentiation of adenocarcinomas, with size more than 60 cm and growth into the whole esophagus wall. The prognosis was unfavorable in patients with poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas. Metastatic involvement of lymph nodes does not make the prognosis worse.
