- Postoperative Outcomes of Tonsillectomy With or Without Adenoidectomy in Children With Cleft Palate: A Scoping Review. [Journal Article]Cleft Palate Craniofac J. 2026 Oct 01; :10556656261492756. [Online ahead of print]CP
- BackgroundTonsillectomy with or without adenoidectomy (AT/T) is among the most common pediatric surgical procedures performed in the United States, but its outcomes in children with cleft palate are poorly characterized, with no consensus in the literature on risk profile. This scoping review examines and synthesizes the available evidence on functional outcomes and postoperative complications fo…

- Prediction of revision adenoidectomy in pediatric patients: a 10-year retrospective study. [Journal Article]Front Pediatr. 2026; 14:1926995.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: This study provides the first validated clinical prediction model for revision adenoidectomy in children. The model demonstrates excellent performance and can help clinicians accurately identify children at high risk of needing a revision surgery.

- Coblation Versus Microdebrider in Pediatric Intracapsular Tonsillotomy: A Comparison of Efficiency, Bleeding, and Revision Surgery. [Journal Article]Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]OH
- CONCLUSIONS: Coblation was more time efficient than microdebrider for tonsillotomy without a significant difference in postoperative bleeding or revision surgery. Younger age was noted to be a risk factor for revision tonsillectomy. Future directions to study include relative cost efficiency and differences in postoperative pain.

- Post-tonsillectomy Respiratory Complications in Children With Obesity: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. [Review]Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]OH
- CONCLUSIONS: Pediatric patients with obesity have nearly twice the odds of post-tonsillectomy respiratory complications than those without. However, odds were elevated only in studies that included events in PACU but not in studies limited to the inpatient wards. Discharge may be safe for children with obesity who do not develop complications in PACU.

- End-of-Surgery Remimazolam Bolus Reduces Emergence Delirium in Children Undergoing Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy: A Randomized, Triple-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Emergence delirium (ED) is common after sevoflurane anesthesia in children undergoing otolaryngologic surgery. Remimazolam is an ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine that may reduce ED without delaying recovery. This study evaluated the effect of a single remimazolam bolus administered at the end of surgery on ED in children undergoing tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy. Metho…

- Concurrent tonsillectomy or turbinoplasty vs. adenoidectomy alone in pediatric obstructive sleep apnea: outcomes, complications, and operative time. [Journal Article]Am J Otolaryngol. 2026 Sep 18; 47(6):104935. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Concurrent tonsillectomy or turbinoplasty enhances the effectiveness of adenoidectomy in managing pediatric OSA without increasing complications. Despite longer operative times, combined procedures improve symptom resolution and reduce the need for revision surgery. Individualized surgical planning based on anatomical and clinical features is recommended.

- Anxiety levels and associated factors in children and their parents prior to adenotonsillectomy. [Journal Article]J Pediatr Nurs. 2026 Sep 22. [Online ahead of print]JP
- CONCLUSIONS: Children demonstrated high levels of preoperative anxiety. Increasing age and lower child-reported fear scores were associated with lower preoperative anxiety levels. These findings underscore the importance of family-centered and age-sensitive preoperative nursing interventions.

- Incidence and Risk Factors for Acute and Persistent Postoperative Pediatric Pain: The 4P Prospective Observational Multicenter Study. [Journal Article]
- Background: Large prospective studies on the prevalence of acute and persistent pain in children are limited, and risk factors associated with post-surgical pain in children remain unclear. Objective: To examine the incidence of pediatric acute (APOP) and persistent postoperative pain (PPOP) and to determine whether factors such as age, sex, preoperative anxiety/sleep disturbance, preoperative pa…

- Effects of Video-Guided Preoperative Simulation Training on Negative Postoperative Behavioral Changes in Children: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]Anaesth Crit Care Pain Med. 2026 Sep 22; :101919. [Online ahead of print]AC
- CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative simulation training reduced the incidence of short-term negative postoperative behavioral changes and improved perioperative psychological outcomes in children who underwent tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, suggesting a feasible nonpharmacological strategy to enhance pediatric perioperative care.

- Acoustic rhinometry for the assessment of adenoid hypertrophy: A systematic review. [Review]Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol. 2026 Sep 21; 210:113019. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Acoustic rhinometry is a promising, rapid, and non-invasive adjunct for assessing adenoid hypertrophy. Nevertheless, the lack of standardized protocols, normative pediatric data, and clear correlations with functional obstruction limits its current clinical implementation. Further well-designed studies are required before routine use can be recommended.

- Pediatric Otitis Media With Effusion Surgical Trends During COVID-19: A Time-Series Study. [Journal Article]Laryngoscope. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]L
- CONCLUSIONS: While OME surgical volume for the general population plummeted, likely due to reduced community-acquired respiratory infections, it remained resilient in high-risk children. These findings suggest that while environmental factors drive OME in the general population, anatomical vulnerabilities necessitate consistent surgical intervention in high-risk groups even during a pandemic. This distinction provides a crucial framework for surgical prioritization in future public health crises.

- Mechanistic Insights into the Role of Adenoid Hypertrophy and Chronic Adenoiditis in the Pathogenesis of Pediatric Chronic Rhinosinusitis: A Systematic Review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Adenoid hypertrophy and chronic adenoiditis appear to be associated with pediatric CRS through combined obstructive, microbial, biofilm- related, inflammatory, and immunological pathways, although causal relationships cannot be established from the available evidence. Adenoidectomy appears beneficial in selected refractory cases, although further prospective mechanistic studies are needed.

- CONCLUSIONS: Obesity independently elevated PRAE risk in this national ambulatory cohort. The sub-multiplicative obesity-asthma interaction indicates partially overlapping risk pathways and supports a lower threshold for extended postoperative observation in obese children with comorbid asthma.

- Time-Dependent Changes in Pulmonary Artery Pressure and Biventricular Function After Adenotonsillar Surgery: A Tissue Doppler Echocardiography Study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Adenotonsillar surgery was associated with an early fall in pulmonary artery pressure and different patterns of change in the two ventricles. Right ventricular changes were more prominent, including an early and progressive increase in TAPSE, while left ventricular diastolic changes were later and more limited. Because conventional echocardiographic measures remained normal, the clinical importance of the modest TDI changes is uncertain.
