- Temporally Robust Machine-Learning-Assisted Impedance Line-Shape Analysis for Quantitative QCM Biosensing with DNA Hybridization Validation. [Journal Article]
- Liquid-phase quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) biosensors are commonly quantified using scalar readouts such as frequency shift, dissipation, or bandwidth. Although useful, these descriptors discard resonance line-shape morphology that carries additional information for quantitative inference. Here, we present a machine-learning-assisted impedance line-shape workflow for temporally robust quantit…

- Dual-band electrically reconfigurable terahertz metasurface enabled by AlGaN/GaN HEMTs. [Letter]Opt Lett. 2026 Oct 15; 51(20):5762-5765.OL
- Terahertz (THz) metasurfaces with efficient and electrically reconfigurable electromagnetic responses are highly desired for emerging wireless communication systems. However, realizing compact solid-state active THz devices with multiband modulation capability remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate a dual-band electrically reconfigurable THz metasurface enabled by AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobil…

- Pulse Shaping to Mitigate Ringing of Ultrasound Transducers with Admittance-Based System Identification. [Journal Article]IEEE Trans Ultrason. 2026 Oct 19; PP. [Online ahead of print]IT
- Ringing of piezoelectric transducers complicates time-domain ultrasound measurements by increasing pulse length, narrowing bandwidth, and producing a 'dead zone' in the pulse envelope that obscures near-field measurements. This leads to decreased axial resolution, and a reduction of the region over which the ultrasound measurements are sensitive. Ringing is caused by resonant behavior of the tran…

- Low-order lateral transducer modes enabling millimeter-scale acoustofluidics. [Journal Article]Lab Chip. 2026 Oct 19. [Online ahead of print]LC
- Bulk acoustic wave devices commonly use thickness modes of piezoelectric plates to generate standing waves in microfluidic cavities, typically at 2 MHz and above, with corresponding wavelengths well below the millimeter scale. However, handling larger mesoscopic objects-such as organoids and small model organisms, including nematodes-requires millimeter-scale fluidic structures. Single-node align…

- Modeling and Experimental Study of Cross-Electromechanical Admittance for Crack Localization in Beams with Distributed Piezoelectric Wafers. [Journal Article]
- This research developed a novel crack localization technique that employed cross-electromechanical admittance (EMA), and its validity was verified through both analytical simulations and experimental measurements. Initially, an analytical model of the cross-EMA was established based on the transfer matrix method (TMM), and subsequently verified by experimental data and finite element analysis. Us…

- Medicaid Lesser-of Rules and Disparities in Skilled Nursing Facility Quality. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This cross-sectional study found that disparities in access to higher-quality SNFs between dually eligible and Medicare-only beneficiaries were larger when states used lesser-of rules for determining Medicare coinsurance reimbursements. Our findings underscore the need for policies that address states' Medicare spending without shifting costs to health care organizations serving the vulnerable dually eligible population.

- Dynamics of charge fluctuations in nanocapacitors: Effects of salt concentration and electrode metallicity from Brownian dynamics. [Journal Article]J Chem Phys. 2026 Oct 07; 165(13).JC
- Electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) rely on the dynamical response of confined electrolytes to store and release charge, yet the interplay between ion transport, electrostatic interactions, and electrode metallicity remains poorly understood at the nanoscale. In this work, we develop a comprehensive Brownian dynamics framework to compute the frequency-dependent admittance of nanocapacitors, …

- Accurate knowledge of acoustic surface admittance or impedance is essential for reliable wave-based simulations, yet its in situ estimation remains challenging due to noise, model inaccuracies, and restrictive assumptions of conventional methods. This work presents a physics-informed neural operator approach for estimating frequency-dependent surface admittance directly from near-field measuremen…

- Adaptive wireless power transfer (WPT) systems for wearable and biomedical applications require continuous knowledge of the magnetic coupling coefficient to maintain stable power delivery under motion-induced variations. Conventional approaches rely on auxiliary sensors or dedicated RF measurement stages, which increase system complexity and limit integration in compact platforms. This paper intr…

- Hybrid matrix method, a stable method for the prediction of multilayered structures including poroelastic media. [Journal Article]J Acoust Soc Am. 2026 Sep 01; 160(3):2641-2652.JA
- This paper proposes a hybrid matrix method (HMM) to predict the response of multilayered structures including poroelastic media. Hybrid matrices are a generalization of impedance and admittance matrices. It is shown that they are more convenient than the latter to deal with coupling between layers composed of media of different types. They are then a powerful tool to solve multilayered structure …

- Ordered Electromagnetic Dissipation via Admittance Scaling. [Journal Article]Phys Rev Lett. 2026 Sep 11; 137(11):116903.PR
- A long-standing challenge in electromagnetic dissipative systems is that dissipation and phase evolution are fundamentally entangled through the underlying admittance dynamics, leading to oscillatory and path-dependent response trajectories under tuning. In this Letter, we identify an admittance-scaling mechanism that restructures the evolution pathway of the effective input admittance, enabling …

- The association between reduced bone mineral density and hearing impairment in postmenopausal women. [Journal Article]Am J Otolaryngol. 2026 Sep 19; 47(6):104938. [Online ahead of print]AJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Reduced bone mineral density is significantly associated with impaired auditory function in postmenopausal women, with hearing thresholds worsening progressively from normal BMD to osteopenia and reaching its greatest severity in osteoporosis, independently of age, BMI and duration of menopause. Although causal inference cannot be drawn from this cross-sectional study, these findings are consistent with the systemic nature of osteoporosis and a possible involvement of the otic capsule and inner ear structures. Prospective, longitudinal studies are warranted to further clarify this association.
