- Post-COVID symptoms prevalence, latent class pattern, and functional impact: A population-based cross-sectional study in two Chilean cities, 2024. [Journal Article]Medwave. 2026 Sep 23; 26(8):e3234.M
- CONCLUSIONS: This population-based study reveals a substantial burden of at least one post-COVID-19 symptom, with distinct symptom classes highlighting the need for tailored interventions. These findings underscore the importance of targeted public health policies and personalized clinical approaches, particularly for severe symptom classes that impact quality of life and contribute critical data from Latin America to the global understanding of post-COVID-19 condition.

- Comparisons between anosmia and ageusia with neurological symptoms and cardiorespiratory fitness among post-COVID-19 individuals: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Anosmia and ageusia are associated with neurological symptoms but not with cardiorespiratory fitness in post-COVID-19 individuals, suggesting partially independent phenotypes. These symptoms should be considered in therapeutic assessment and management.

- SARS-CoV-2 disrupts the integrity of a human blood-brain barrier model in the absence of infection. [Journal Article]
- Neurological symptoms are recognized in patients with COVID-19, and include anosmia, ageusia, cognitive impairments as well as more severe complications including encephalitis and ischemic strokes. Furthermore, persistent cognitive impairment including 'brain fog' is recognised as part of the long COVID syndrome. While SARS-CoV-2 has been shown to infect cells of the central nervous system (CNS) …

- Photobiomodulation to minimize talquetamab-associated dysgeusia and xerostomia in multiple myeloma: a brief report of four cases. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This series demonstrates the feasibility and tolerability of PBM delivered alongside talquetamab in four patients. Given the small, uncontrolled sample and concurrent supportive interventions, no conclusion can be drawn regarding the efficacy of PBM for talquetamab-associated dysgeusia or xerostomia. Controlled studies with objective, validated outcome measures are needed.

- Genome-wide machine learning analysis of anosmia and ageusia with COVID-19. [Journal Article]
- The COVID-19 pandemic has caused substantial worldwide disruptions in health, economy, and society, manifesting symptoms such as loss of smell (anosmia) and loss of taste (ageusia), that can result in prolonged sensory impairment. Establishing the host genetic etiology of anosmia and ageusia in COVID-19 will aid in the overall understanding of the sensorineural aspect of the disease and contribut…

- Psilocybin-containing mushroom-assisted psychotherapy is associated with sustained psychological and somatic improvements: two case studies from Jamaica. [Journal Article]Front Psychiatry. 2026; 17:1876189.FP
- We report two case studies that examine the therapeutic potential of structured psilocybin-containing mushroom biomass regimens administered within a clinical framework, evaluating their impact on mental health outcomes as well as associated somatic symptoms. Two patients underwent the De La Haye Psilocybin Treatment Protocol (DPTP), which integrates micro- and high-doses (combined psilocybin and…

- Untreated Caries in Persons with Taste or Smell Dysfunction. [Journal Article]JDR Clin Trans Res. 2026 Aug 11; :23800844261464520. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Perceived dysfunction of taste and smell and inability to taste bitterness at high added sugar intakes were associated with increased odds of untreated caries. Screening for chemosensory dysfunction may identify persons with greater risk of dental caries and facilitate referral to a dentist.Knowledge Transfer Statement:Screening for taste dysfunction in primary care and community-based settings may identify persons with greater risk of dental caries and facilitate referral to a dentist.

- Assessing the prevalence of anosmia and taste dysfunction in COVID-19 patients in Saudi Arabia: a systematic review and meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Anosmia and taste loss are common manifestations of COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia. The findings should be interpreted with caution given the methodological heterogeneity of included studies, reliance on self-reported measures in the majority of studies, and the absence of a prospectively registered protocol. Future studies using objective validated instruments are warranted.

- Taste Dysfunction and Bell's Palsy: A Scoping Review. [Review]Laryngoscope. 2026 Jul 17. [Online ahead of print]L
- CONCLUSIONS: Taste dysfunction is a frequent yet variably reported feature of Bell's palsy. Taste stimulus testing reveals broader facial nerve involvement than patient report alone and may aid early assessment. Standardized, longitudinal studies employing validated psychophysical measures are needed to clarify the prognostic significance of taste deficits and inform comprehensive assessment strategies.

- Bilateral Gustatory Disturbance Associated With Unilateral Putaminal Hemorrhage: A Case Report and Literature Review. [Case Reports]Cureus. 2026 Jun; 18(6):e110644.C
- Taste disturbance is relatively common after acute stroke but is often overlooked because it is subjective and frequently overshadowed by more prominent neurological deficits. Gustatory dysfunction specifically associated with putaminal hemorrhage has rarely been reported. We describe a 43-year-old right-handed woman who developed acute bilateral loss of taste in close temporal association with a…

- Post-marketing safety of tarlatamab in small cell lung cancer based on FAERS and WHO-VigiAccess with SHAP-based interpretable machine learning analysis of immune-related adverse events. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Post-marketing data indicate that tarlatamab has a distinct safety profile dominated by early-onset immune-mediated and neurologic toxicities, particularly CRS and ICANS. Early monitoring and prompt supportive management during initial treatment cycles are essential. These findings broaden current knowledge of tarlatamab safety in real-world practice and support prospective studies to pharmacovigilance-based signal stratification and monitoring strategies.

- Paraneoplastic neurologic syndrome in advanced lung cancer with mixed adenocarcinoma and squamous features: a diagnostic challenge-a case report. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the diagnostic challenges of antibody-negative paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes. The study underscores the important role of PET-CT in identifying occult malignancy and the role of repeat biopsy in progressive disease. Discordant histologic findings should be interpreted cautiously, as they may reflect tumor heterogeneity or possible adenosquamous carcinoma rather than true histologic evolution. Limited molecular testing, and sampling constraints remain important challenges, particularly in resource-limited settings.

- Brain 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography in COVID 19-associated autoimmune encephalitis: a case report. [Case Reports]
- Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-associated encephalitis is a rare but severe neurological complication. Conventional diagnostic tools, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) studies, may yield normal results despite significant functional brain impairment. Brain positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) has …

- Tissue-specific autoantibody signatures reveal immune alterations undetected by routine serology in long COVID. [Journal Article]
- Long COVID affects a substantial proportion of individuals recovering from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, yet its underlying pathophysiology remains poorly understood. Although autoimmunity is increasingly implicated in disease pathogenesis, routine diagnostics frequently fail to detect relevant immune dysregulation. To address this gap, we analyzed sera f…
