- Physical Techniques for Mitigating Food Mycotoxin Toxicity: Recent Advances and Synergistic Mechanisms. [Review]Toxicon. 2026 Nov 03; :109351. [Online ahead of print]T
- Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by toxigenic fungi such as Aspergillus and Fusarium that cause significant risks to human health. Conventional degradation methods for mycotoxin have some limitations such as hazardous chemical residues and adverse effects on food quality. Physical technologies such as cold plasma and ultrasound offer promising alternative to conventional decont…

- When perinatal asphyxia is not the whole story: neonatal listeriosis masquerading as hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. [Journal Article]Proc (Bayl Univ Med Cent). 2026 Nov 03; :1-6. [Online ahead of print]P
- Neonatal listeriosis is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening cause of early-onset sepsis that can closely resemble hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. We present a term male infant delivered by cesarean section for nonreassuring fetal heart rate tracing who required resuscitation with positive pressure ventilation. Severe metabolic acidosis and low Apgar scores initially suggested perinatal …

- Comparison of Efficacy of Epidural Ropivacaine versus Bupivacaine for Postoperative Pain Relief in Patients Undergoing Infraumbilical Surgeries. [Journal Article]Ann Afr Med. 2026 Nov 02. [Online ahead of print]AA
- CONCLUSIONS: Epidural bupivacaine provides a longer duration of postoperative analgesia with better early pain control, whereas ropivacaine offers a favorable safety profile with less motor blockade and acceptable hemodynamic stability. Ropivacaine may be considered a suitable alternative to bupivacaine for postoperative epidural analgesia in patients undergoing infraumbilical surgeries.

- Technical Performance and Automated-manual Scoring Agreement in Type III Home Sleep Apnea Testing: A Single-center Study from Saudi Arabia. [Journal Article]Saudi J Med Med Sci. 2026 Oct-Dec; 14(4):339-347.SJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Among adults from Saudi Arabia, type III HSAT had a high technical success rate and strong overall agreement between automated and manual scoring. These findings support the use of HSAT as a reliable diagnostic alternative in appropriately selected adults with a high pretest probability of OSA.

- A Calibration Framework for Patient-Specific 1D Arterial Models: Reflection-Coefficient Pre-Optimization, Coupled Conduit-Peripheral Compliance, and Exact Terminal Flow Distribution. [Journal Article]Int J Numer Method Biomed Eng. 2026 Nov; 42(11).IJ
- The accurate simulation of blood pressure and flow waveforms in patient-specific 1D models requires precise calibration of numerous parameters, a task often complicated by limitations in clinical measurements and by heterogeneous modeling assumptions. This work proposes a comprehensive calibration methodology designed to ensure physiological consistency in the modeling of arterial networks across…

- CONCLUSIONS: In persistent AF, PFA, demonstrates superior efficacy, safety, and procedural efficiency compared with CF-RFA, supporting its role as a potential first-line ablation strategy. Larger multicenter trials with long-term follow-up are needed to confirm durability and device-specific outcomes.

- Organic Upconversion Devices for NIR-II Biometric Sensing and Imaging Enabled by an Isomerically Engineered Narrow-Bandgap Quinoidal Polymer. [Journal Article]ACS Appl Mater Interfaces. 2026 Nov 02. [Online ahead of print]AA
- The limited availability of organic donor materials absorbing beyond 1000 nm fundamentally limits the development of solution-processed photodetectors and upconversion devices (UCDs) in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window. Herein, we report DPP-TbT, a narrow-bandgap alternating copolymer realized through isomeric engineering of the thiophene backbone. By employing a thieno[3,4-b]thiophene (T…

- Cumulative estimated glucose disposal rate and longitudinal eGDR patterns in relation to incident cardiovascular disease among middle-aged and older adults with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: a prospective cohort study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Among middle-aged and older Chinese adults meeting an operational TyG-WC-based MASLD definition, lower cumulative eGDR and longitudinal eGDR patterns characterised by low levels at both observed measurements or a marked decline between measurements were associated with a higher risk of incident CVD. Cumulative eGDR provided modest incremental discrimination beyond conventional risk factors but essentially no additional discrimination beyond the 2015 eGDR measurement, indicating substantial overlap with the most recent eGDR value.

- Mechanistic shifts driving nitrous oxide mitigation in mainstream partial nitritation/anammox: Transitioning from nitrifier denitrification to hydroxylamine oxidation. [Journal Article]Bioresour Technol. 2026 Oct 31; 465:136173. [Online ahead of print]BT
- Achieving stable partial nitritation/anammox (PN/A) for mainstream municipal wastewater treatment while minimizing nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions remains a key challenge due to slow anammox bacteria growth and nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) proliferation. In this study, a stable mainstream PN/A system was established in a biological aerated filter (BAF) using an alternating influent strength and…

- An automated EEG-ECG framework for CAP-HRV analysis: enabling brain-heart coupling studies in sleep disorders. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The framework provides a reproducible, rule-based, and modular tool for integrated EEG-ECG analysis of sleep microstructure and autonomic dynamics. By enabling synchronized CAP-HRV feature extraction in a single environment, it lowers the engineering barrier to brain-heart coupling research during sleep and provides a foundation for future extensions, including validated CAP detection, a matched-control study, a Python port, and cloud-based deployment.

- Diamond Raman laser for hydroxyl radical planar laser-induced fluorescence. [Letter]Opt Lett. 2026 Nov 01; 51(21):6010-6013.OL
- This Letter describes, to the best of our knowledge, the first application of an Nd:YAG-pumped diamond Raman laser (DRL) for OH planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF). DRL was used to convert 532 nm pump radiation into 573 nm output, corresponding to the 1[st] Stokes Raman shift, via the stimulated Raman scattering process in a diamond crystal, with an achieved conversion efficiency of 52%. - IntroductionProlongation of the heart-rate-corrected QT interval (QTc) is a defining safety concern in oncology, where patients face an expanding array of repolarization-altering agents superimposed on supportive drugs, electrolyte disturbgances, and organ dysfunction. The anchoring event, torsade de pointes, is uncommon but potentially lethal, and arrhythmic risk must be balanced against the sur…
