  • Biologics can improve disease control in patients with psoriasis vulgaris (PsO) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA); however, refractory regions may persist despite biologic therapy. This study aimed to evaluate refractory anatomical regions in patients with PsO and PsA who underwent biologic switching. We retrospectively analyzed 71 biologic-switching episodes from 50 patients treated at Jichi Medical…
  • Role of genomic testing in modern diagnostic surgical pathology practice. [Review]
    Pathology. 2026 Sep 21. [Online ahead of print]Dorwal P, Cheah A, … Kumar BP
  • Genomic testing has become an essential adjunct to conventional histomorphology and immunohistochemistry in modern diagnostic surgical pathology, enabling more precise tumour classification, particularly in diagnostically challenging cases. This review focuses on the diagnostic applications of genomic techniques across multiple subspecialties, including bone and soft tissue pathology, dermatopath…

  • Due to increased understanding of the importance of high-throughput sequencing, the available literature on the microbiome of humans, non-human animals, and plants has increased in recent years. Unfortunately, research investigating fungi, as part of the microbiome, lags far behind bacterial research, and significant data gaps persist. However, the emergence of significant fungal diseases over th…
  • Comparative Outcomes of Endovascular and Open Surgical Repair for Extracranial Carotid Artery Aneurysms: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. [Review]

  • CONCLUSIONS: Observational evidence suggests similar perioperative outcomes and similar observed late event rates for ER and OpR in ECAAs, although heterogeneous follow-up and the absence of time-to-event analyses limit formal comparison of long-term durability. Both approaches were associated with low mortality, stroke, reintervention rates, and excellent primary patency. Open repair remains supported by a larger body of evidence and longer follow-up, whereas evidence for ER remains comparatively limited. Because treatment allocation in the available studies was influenced by patient characteristics, anatomical complexity, and surgical risk, the observed similarity in outcomes should not be interpreted as evidence of therapeutic equivalence. Given the observational design and the predominantly moderate to serious risk of bias of the included studies, these findings should be interpreted with caution.
  • Outcomes of Open vs Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Involving the Iliac Bifurcation. [Journal Article]

  • CONCLUSIONS: In this real-world, multi-institutional study, EVAR for AAAIB was associated with lower odds of overall in-hospital mortality, 30-day mortality, MACE, as well as a higher 1-year survival rate, compared to the OAR. EVAR should be considered the primary method for repairing aortoiliac aneurysm involving the iliac bifurcation in anatomically suitable patients. Longer follow-up studies are needed to confirm these findings and compare the long-term reintervention and aorta-related mortality rates between the two treatment modalities.

  • CONCLUSIONS: In this real-world study, involvement of the iliac bifurcation in AAA was an effect modifier for the outcomes of different OAR approaches. For patients with IAAA, compared with RPA, TPA was associated with worse 30-day mortality, MACE, and 1-year survival. Whereas for patients with AAAIB, TPA was associated with lower odds of LE ischemia, without significant differences in 30-day mortality, MACE, or 1-year survival. This study suggests that RPA may be the procedure of choice for IAAA if it is otherwise feasible. However, TPA may be the procedure of choice for patients with AAAIB who are otherwise anatomically suitable. Larger prospective studies are warranted to validate these findings.
