- Preoperative C-Reactive Protein to Albumin Ratio Is Associated With Incremental Prognostic Information Beyond EuroSCORE II After Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery. [Journal Article]J Cardiothorac Vasc Anesth. 2026 Sep 19. [Online ahead of print]JC
- CONCLUSIONS: Preoperative CAR was independently associated with both in-hospital and 1-year mortality after isolated CABG and provided incremental prognostic information beyond EuroSCORE II in the present cohort. Rather than replacing EuroSCORE II, it provides complementary prognostic information by capturing inflammatory and nutritional dimensions not represented in conventional surgical risk models. External multicenter validation is warranted before routine clinical implementation.

- Obesity is associated with unique and compounding perioperative challenges in otolaryngologic surgery. This review summarizes evidence-based guidance on preoperative risk stratification, airway management, intraoperative anesthetic and ventilatory strategies, and procedure-specific postoperative care for patients with obesity undergoing otolaryngologic surgery, with emphasis on the emerging pheno…

- CONCLUSIONS: Four perioperative sessions of taVNS applied to the left cymba conchae significantly reduced the incidence of perioperative anxiety in patients undergoing thoracoscopic lung resection and were additionally associated with improvements in depressive symptoms, stress burden, sleep quality, and pain outcomes.

- Neuropathic pain arises from complex pathological processes involving oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) contributes critically to the initiation and persistence of neuropathic pain following nerve injury and inflammatory insults, and antioxidant-based interventions have shown consistent efficacy across multiple preclinical models. This s…

- Postpartum depression is a major maternal and child health concern, but evidence regarding prenatal exposure to ultrafine particles (UFPs) remains limited. This prospective two-center pregnancy cohort in Shanghai included 2,647 pregnant women. Residential prenatal exposures to UFPs and PM2.5 were estimated for the first, second, and third trimesters and the full pregnancy. Depressive symptoms wer…

- Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND), including postoperative delirium (POD), delayed neurocognitive recovery (DNR), and postoperative neurocognitive disorder, are common after surgery in older adults, and the gut-brain axis has been proposed as a contributing pathway. Most mechanistic support rests on rodent behavioral assays, yet these endpoints and human clinical diagnoses are routinel…

- In children with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), vancomycin dosing is frequently guided by population-based approaches followed by therapeutic drug monitoring that requires considerable blood volumes. We sought to develop a population pharmacokinetic (PK) model and describe vancomycin exposures using blood-sparing, whole-blood volumetric absorptive microsampling (VAMS). In this multic…

- CONCLUSIONS: Female sex, particularly in a postmenopausal context, was independently associated with impaired vasopressor de-escalation following AVP in CS on VA-ECMO. These hypothesis-generating findings suggest that hormonal status may modulate vascular responsiveness to AVP and support the need for prospective studies incorporating hormonal profiling.

- This technical note is meant to be complementary to the recently published Professional Practice Guidelines of the SFAR-ADARPEF. The limits of using blood pressure as a surrogate for changes in cardiac output and the variable accuracy of its non-invasive measurement are reminded. As clearcut population-based threshold values based on measurements obtained in awake or anaesthetised children cannot…
