  • Potential sexual transmission of Giardia in an endemic region: a case series. [Case Reports]
    Infez Med. 2018 Jun 01; 26(2):171-175.Escobedo AA, Acosta-Ballester G, … Chirino EIM
  • We present four cases in which probable sexual transmission of Giardia lamblia was suspected. Diagnosing this mode of transmission in endemic areas is often difficult and should be considered only as possible, because exposure to poor sanitation and a potentially contaminated environment are always latent. However, as patients reported, there was no history of drinking tap water, exposure to recr…
  • Sexual transmission of giardiasis: a neglected route of spread? [Review]
    Acta Trop. 2014 Apr; 132:106-11.Escobedo AA, Almirall P, … Chacín-Bonilla LAT
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are often discussed in the context of syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, chlamydiasis and AIDS. However, since the past 30 years of the last century, epidemiology and natural history studies have led to improved understanding of giardiasis as a STI, as a result of oral-anal sexual contact. Studies suggest that Giardia is an increasingly recognized infection that m…
  • [Sexually transmitted infections of the oral cavity]. [Journal Article]
    Hautarzt. 2012 Sep; 63(9):710-5.Schöfer HH
  • Various sexual practices like fellatio, cunnilingus, or anilingus (rimming) can cause both symptomatic and asymptomatic oral infections in both sexes. Clinically apparent lesions are found in primary, secondary, and tertiary syphilis, in acute HIV infection and the subsequent stage of immunodeficiency (opportunistic infections), as well as in herpes and human papilloma virus infections. Genital c…
  • Hepatitis B and C virus sexual transmission among homosexual men. [Journal Article]
Am J Gastroenterol. 1998 Jan; 93(1):49-52.Osella AR, Massa MA, … Sileoni SAJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Sexual behavior is a plausible explanatory factor of HBV sexual transmission among homosexual men. Further evidence is needed to elucidate the occurrence and the efficiency of HCV sexual transmission in the absence of other risk factors.
  • HIV prevention among Zambian adolescents: developing a value utilization/norm change model. [Journal Article]
    Soc Sci Med. 1997 Feb; 44(4):455-68.Feldman DA, O'Hara P, … Lu YSS
  • Peer-led interventions are effective in reducing risk for HIV among adolescents. A pre-intervention study was conducted to determine how to successfully carry out a possible future intervention to reduce HIV risk among adolescents in urban Zambia. Ethnographic and sexual data were collected on 276 males and females both attending and not attending secondary school during a 14-month period in 1992…
  • Sex role separation in sexual diaries of homosexual men. [Journal Article]
AIDS. 1993 Jun; 7(6):877-82.Coxon AP, Coxon NH, … McManus TJAIDS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Although anal intercourse shows a certain degree of behavioural role rigidity, this rigidity is not large enough to conclude that gay men exclusively engage in either an active or a passive role. Typical rates for exclusive active and passive roles for anal intercourse during the month the diaries were recorded were in the range of 12-15%; the dual role was significantly higher.
  • The AIDS dilemma: worry and concern over AIDS. [Journal Article]
    Can J Public Health. 1990 May-Jun; 81(3):222-5.Chandarana PC, Conlon P, … Field VACJ
  • Information was collected from 148 homosexual men to examine their current sexual practices, knowledge of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), perception of risk for this disease and change in sexual behaviour. The data were analyzed to investigate the relationship of these variables to the degree of worry and concern about AIDS expressed by most respondents. Overall, a decline in high-risk…
  • Sexually transmitted diseases in hetero-, homo- and bisexual males in Copenhagen. [Journal Article]
    Dan Med Bull. 1988 Jun; 35(3):285-8.Christophersen J, Menné T, … Ohlenschloeger JDM
  • This study is a mapping of intestinal protozoal and pathogenic bacterial infections, and sexually transmitted urethral and anorectal infections among 365 consecutive male patients attending a veneric disease (VD) clinic in Copenhagen. The profile of diseases was strongly correlated to sexual life-style. Amoebiasis and giardiasis were found respectively in 31.9% and 13.8% of homosexuals. None of t…
