  • Ankle injuries are among the most common musculoskeletal conditions encountered across emergency, urgent care, and orthopedic settings, requiring prompt and effective initial management. Ankle splinting plays a critical role in stabilizing the ankle, alleviating pain, and preventing further soft-tissue and neurovascular damage before definitive treatment. Splinting is a common technique used acro…

  • Pes cavus is an orthopedic condition that manifests in both children and adults. Pes cavus and pes cavovarus are often used interchangeably as the most common manifestation of the cavus foot is the cavovarus presentation. Pes cavus is a deformity that is typically characterized by cavus (elevation of the longitudinal plantar arch of the foot), plantar flexion of the first ray, forefoot pronation,…
  • Implantable tibial neuromodulation with an Anklet for overactive bladder: a review. [Review]
World J Urol. 2026 Sep 07; 44(1).Timmermans JF, Heesakkers JPFAWJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence suggests that iTNM using an external anklet stimulator may provide an effective and minimally invasive treatment option for patients with refractory OAB and UUI, with encouraging safety and durability outcomes. Although further comparative and long-term studies are warranted, iTNM appears to be an relevant addition to the third-line OAB management.
  • Comparison of screw and suture-button techniques in the treatment of ankle syndesmotic injuries. [Journal Article]
Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg. 2026 Sep; 32(9):1100-1106.Durak YS, Yildirim OS, … Engin MCUT
  • CONCLUSIONS: Both cortical screw and suture-button fixation provided satisfactory long-term functional and radiographic outcomes in patients with ankle fractures and syndesmotic injuries. Although suture-button fixation was associated with superior early functional recovery, this apparent advantage should be interpreted cautiously given baseline differences and potential confounding. These hypothesis-generating findings support the need for prospective randomized trials with standardized rehabilitation protocols.
  • Radiological assessment of traumatic bone injuries secondary to motorcycle accidents in Ghana: a multi-center cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
Afr J Emerg Med. 2026 Sep; 16(3):101002.Gorleku PN, Quarshie F, … Eshun DAJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: The observed increasing annual trend in traumatic bone injury cases underscores a growing burden on emergency departments and highlights the urgent need for strengthened emergency medicine systems, including rapid triage, timely imaging, and coordinated trauma care. This trend also reinforces the importance of targeted motorcycle injury prevention strategies and policy interventions, alongside improved pre-hospital and emergency response services, to reduce both the incidence and severity of motorcycle-related injuries in Ghana.
  • Medial Swivel Injury: Misdiagnosis in Four Patients Over Three Months. [Case Reports]
    Cureus. 2026 Aug; 18(8):e114024.Mousavian A, Keikha YC
  • Medial swivel injury is a rare injury among midfoot fracture-dislocations, typically caused by direct and high-energy force applied to the midfoot region. However, it can also develop after minor trauma, like a foot or ankle sprain sustained during sports or walking. Swivel type of injury refers to an isolated dislocation of the talonavicular joint (TNJ) with the calcaneum getting swiveled beneat…
  • The Persistent Preference for Traditional Bonesetting in Ethiopia: Risk Factors and Missed Opportunities. [Journal Article]
    JB JS Open Access. 2026 Jul-Sep; 11(3).Mengesha MG, Askew M, … Agarwal-Harding KJJJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: More than one-third of patients preferred TBS for future injuries. Among patients in poverty, persistent TBS preference after reaching a tertiary hospital may reflect entrenched structural barriers to formal orthopaedic care. Initial health facility visits before TBS were associated with greater future TBS preference even after definitive hospital care, suggesting missed opportunities to build trust in formal care.
