- Phenotypes, Developmental Basis, and Genetics of Pierre Robin Complex. [Review]
- The phenotype currently accepted as Pierre Robin syndrome/sequence/anomalad/complex (PR) is characterized by mandibular dysmorphology, glossoptosis, respiratory obstruction, and in some cases, cleft palate. A causative sequence of developmental events is hypothesized for PR, but few clear causal relationships between discovered genetic variants, dysregulated gene expression, precise cellular proc…

- Case report of Pierre Robin sequence with severe upper airway obstruction who was rescued by fiberoptic nasotracheal intubation. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that extreme type of glossoptosis in PRS concludes tongue invaginated into nasal cavity which have not reported before and that such cases require resuscitation by fiberoptic intubation immediately after birth. As such, neonatologists should obtain the skill of fiberoptic intubation.

- Pierre Robin sequence: report of two cases. [Case Reports]
- Pierre Robin sequence (PRS) or anomalad, a well-recognized presentation, is the association of the first brachial arch malformation. It presents with a classic triad of micrognathia, glossoptosis, and cleft palate. In a neonate with a complete cleft palate, problems with feeding are commonly encountered. Presented here are two cases with PRS in whom palatal obturators were constructed.

- Lumbocostovertebral syndrome with associated VACTERL anomalad: a neonatal case report. [Case Reports]
- We report the first clinical case of a term infant with findings suggestive of lumbocostovertebral syndrome and VACTERL association. Renal agenesis was suspected by prenatal ultrasound, and at birth clinical findings included a large abdominal wall hernia, imperforate anus, vestibular fistula, absent right rib, vertebral anomalies, tethered cord, syringomyelia, and two small sacral dimples.

- Pierre Robin syndrome: an update. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Infants with Robin sequence can present with varied problems, some of them emergencies. Clinicians must be aware of the high prevalence of associated syndromes and the possible contribution of other syndromic features to the problems for proper patient care. Candidate loci and potential candidate genes are currently being proposed in the literature for RS.
- Otocephaly: report of five new cases and a literature review. [Case Reports]
- Otocephaly, characterized by mandibular hypoplasia or agnathia, ventromedial auricular malposition (melotia) and/or auricular fusion (synotia), and microstomia with oroglossal hypoplasia or aglossia, is an extremely rare anomalad, identified in less than 1 in 70,000 births. The malformation spectrum is essentially lethal, because of ventilatory problems, and represents a developmental field defec…
- Cleft lip in the Talmud. [Historical Article]Ann Plast Surg. 2000 Sep; 45(3):229-37; discussion 237-9.AP
- The authors address the problem of why the cleft lip anomalad is not mentioned even once in the Talmud, which contains detailed reports of numerous other forms of pathology and congenital anomalies. It also attempts to define the Sandal deformity, one of the most common congenital anomalies mentioned in the Talmud. It is assumed that cleft lip, the most common major facial defect, existed at the …
- [Wildervanck or cervico-oculo-acoustic syndrome]. [Case Reports]Lin Chuang Er Bi Yan Hou Ke Za Zhi. 1997 Nov; 11(11):499-501.LC
- In 1952, Wildervanck described the first case of what he called the Cervico-Oculo-Acoustic (COA) syndrome, which comprises Klippel-Fetl anomalad (congenitally fused cervical vertebrae), congenital deafness and Duane's retraction syndrome (abducen's paralysis and retraction on adduction). Since the first case was reported, there have been more reports describing this triad, either completely or in…
- Clinical evaluation in isolated hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism (Kallmann syndrome). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The manifestations of Kallmann syndrome vary, depending upon the degree of LHRH deficiency. Therapy should combine exogenous sex hormone replacement and psychological support, with long-term follow-up to ensure maintenance of normal sexual function, normal bone mass and psychosocial outcome, with fertility induction when indicated.
- A simple homemade lighted stylet for neonates and infants: a description and case report of its use in an infant with the Pierre Robin anomalad. [Journal Article]Paediatr Anaesth. 1997 May; 7(3):233-235.PA
- The glossoptosis and micrognathia associated with Pierre Robin anomalad can make tracheal intubation by conventional laryngoscopy quite difficult. Lighted stylets may be helpful in the successful intubation of infants with this anomalad, but those currently available that are small enough to accommodate 3.0 mm ID tracheal tubes have two major drawbacks limiting their utility: an insufficiently ri…

- Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis-like polyarthritis in chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (DiGeorge anomalad/velocardiofacial syndrome/conotruncal anomaly face syndrome). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome represents a primary T cell disorder which can be associated with a JRA-like polyarthritis. All 3 patients with polyarthritis had evidence of more extensive immunoregulatory derangements than those typically seen in patients with chromosome 22q11.2 deletion, and these derangements may have predisposed to the development of polyarthritis.

- Thymic hypoplasia and T-cell deficiency in ectodermal dysplasia: case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]
- Ectodermal dysplasia is a heterogeneous disorder that includes a constellation of congenital malformations occasionally associated with mild to moderate immune dysfunction. In this report, we describe a female infant with ectodermal dysplasia who was found to have thymic hypoplasia but no other phenotypic features of the DiGeorge anomalad. She experienced Candida parapsilosis sepsis at 1 week of …
