- Apathy and Physical Activity: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Systematic Review]Physiother Can. 2026 Aug; 78(3):389-405.PC
- Purpose: Patient motivation is essential for successful rehabilitation, so apathy may hinder physiotherapists' interventions aimed at increasing physical activity. We examined the relationship between apathy and physical activity to identify the factors that influence it. Methods: Pearson product-moment correlations were pooled from eligible studies to examine the relationship between apathy and …

- Recalibration of the Frontal Behavioural Inventory Cut-Off for Behavioural Screening in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. [Journal Article]Eur J Neurol. 2026 Oct; 33(10):e70778.EJ
- CONCLUSIONS: In ALS, the bvFTD-derived threshold of 25 misses most patients with behavioural involvement. FBI ≥ 9 is a promising candidate ALS-specific screening threshold, with scores ≥ 15 indicating a higher probability of behavioural involvement; exploratory subscale thresholds of ≥ 7 for Apathy and ≥ 4 for Disinhibition are also proposed. These cut-offs substantially improve sensitivity while maintaining acceptable specificity, but require prospective external validation before replacing current practice.

- Neuropsychiatric and Cognitive Symptom Evolution over the First Decade of Biomarker-Positive, Sporadic Parkinson's Disease. [Journal Article]Mov Disord. 2026 Oct 06. [Online ahead of print]MD
- CONCLUSIONS: NPS increase in prevalence and co-occurrence over 10 years in biomarker-positive, sporadic PD. Time-varying symptom groupings and persistent low- and high-NPS burden phenotypes further highlight the progressive and heterogeneous nature of NPS evolution in PD. © 2026 The Author(s). - Executive functions as a transdiagnostic endophenotype in developmental psychopathology. [Review]Mol Psychiatry. 2026 Oct 07. [Online ahead of print]MP
- The majority of mental health conditions emerges before adulthood, with prevalence increasing especially during childhood and adolescence. Coupled with high comorbidity between disorders, there is an urgent need to identify transdiagnostic mechanisms that underpin both risk and resilience to developmental psychopathology. Here we propose executive functions (EFs), a set of cognitive processes rel…

- Effectiveness of a Virtual Reality Immersion Process as a Nonpharmacological Intervention for Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia and Immediate Well-Being in People Living in Nursing Homes: Randomized Controlled Trial. [Randomized Controlled Trial]JMIR Form Res. 2026 Oct 06; 10:e95542.JF
- CONCLUSIONS: VR interventions in nursing home residents with neurocognitive disorders did not demonstrate superiority over an active cognitive stimulation control in reducing BPSD. Both interventions were associated with improvements in immediate well-being, suggesting that nonpharmacological group-based activities may be beneficial in nursing home settings. Additionally, VR interventions were safe and feasible in this population. Immersive VR warrants further investigation in adequately powered pragmatic trials to clarify its specific added value and optimal implementation conditions for BPSD.

- Emotional Blunting During Antidepressant Treatment: Implications for Clinical Decision-Making and Patient-Centred Care. [Review]J Eval Clin Pract. 2026 Oct; 32(7):e70604.JE
- CONCLUSIONS: Emotional blunting is best understood as a therapeutically ambivalent, patient-reported outcome whose significance varies with illness phase, treatment goals, perceived benefits, and individual values. Systematic enquiry and shared decision-making can support more clinically appropriate and person-centred antidepressant care.

- The influence of DanceSport on the mental health of patients with chronic diseases: a systematic review. [Systematic Review]Front Psychol. 2026; 17:1937157.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: DanceSport interventions may help improve the mental health of patients with chronic diseases, but their effects may vary depending on the type of disease, the style of dance, and the specific mental health outcome measures. Future research could further compare the effectiveness of different dance forms and optimize DanceSport intervention programs to enhance their value in promoting mental health among patients with chronic diseases.

- External validation of an integrative model of functional impairment in early-stage behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Two partially distinct yet complementary processes appear to contribute to functional impairment in bvFTD: one reflecting the impact of frontal neurodegeneration on cognitive abilities essential for independent functioning, and another involving motivational and personality changes that directly undermine everyday engagement, thereby providing support for a multidimensional model of functional disability in bvFTD.

- The Three Destructions of the Brain: Memory, Understanding, and Will from Augustine to the Neurology Clinic. [Journal Article]Perspect Biol Med. 2026; 69(3):319-337.PB
- In the Suscipe prayer concluding his Spiritual Exercises, St. Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) offers God his liberty together with three faculties: memory, understanding, and will. This triad, inherited from St. Augustine of Hippo's De Trinitate, identifies within human cognition an image of the divine Trinity inscribed in the architecture of thought. The imago Dei itself, however, belongs to the …

- The sound of smell: crossmodal correspondences between sound and odor. [Journal Article]
- Crossmodal correspondence plays a subtle yet important role in how we perceive and interpret our environment. Sounds and smells, in particular, might co-occur in our daily lives (e.g., spraying a perfume), yet their interaction remains underexplored. Understanding how these modalities interact can inform multisensory design and sensory marketing. This study investigates whether affects indirectly…

- We here report the discovery of a series of fluoro-substituted 3-phenoxy-azetidines useful for modulating levels of monoamines in cerebral cortical areas of the brain. The compounds were characterized by in vivo studies using, in particular, behavioural, and microdialysis methods. Furthermore, the compounds were tested in binding assays for the human serotonin (5-HT), noradrenaline (NA), and dopa…
