- Modulation of gastric activity using appetizing and disgusting images. [Journal Article]Emotion. 2026 Aug 13. [Online ahead of print]E
- Interoception is the nervous system's integration of internal bodily signals, including gastrointestinal inputs. This process is crucial for regulating homeostasis, cognition, and emotion and depends on bidirectional brain-body communication. Given recent evidence of brain-stomach synchronization, determining whether emotional images (e.g., appetizing and disgusting) alter gastric activity is imp…

- Confirmation bias in young children's information seeking and evaluation of novel foods. [Journal Article]J Exp Child Psychol. 2026 Aug; 268:106514.JE
- Food rejection is most likely to occur during early childhood, with most rejected foods being vegetables and fruits. Consequently, many young children do not meet the recommended intake levels of these foods. Confirmation bias may be a cognitive factor contributing to low intake of novel vegetables and fruits. This study aimed to examine confirmation bias at two stages-information seeking and inf…

- Plant-based diets for older adults in care homes: a realist synthesis. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: This realist synthesis addresses a gap in the literature relating to the provision of plant-based meals in care homes by exploring ways in which adherence and acceptability of plant-based meals can be enhanced amongst residents and staff. These findings will support the design of an empirical study where the gleaned initial programme theories will be tested in vivo. Additionally, the use of the realist synthesis presents a novel approach to designing complex nutrition interventions for specific contexts.

- Appetizing food cues most consistently relate to men's same-day loss of control eating. [Journal Article]Eat Behav. 2026 Jan; 60:102063.EB
- Experiencing loss of control (LOC) while eating is distressing to men and associated with many negative outcomes. Yet, investigations of LOC eating have focused on women. Some data suggest the factors that contribute to the onset and maintenance of these behaviors differ for men. The current study explored whether specific stressors, body dissatisfaction, dieting, hunger, food cravings, and food …

- Cognitive reappraisal of food craving: Generalization and best implementation strategies. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Appetite. 2026 Feb 01; 217:108374.A
- Food reappraisal is a cognitive strategy used to regulate the desire to eat by changing how one thinks about food. While prior research has demonstrated that food reappraisal can modulate food cravings, it remains unclear whether these effects generalize to untrained food stimuli and broader motivational states such as hunger. Additionally, the relative effectiveness of commonly used reappraisal …

- Associations between Dietary Pattern Networks Derived from Machine Learning Algorithms and Cardiovascular Disease Risk in the NutriNet-Santé Cohort. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that a DP network reflecting the consumption of ultraprocessed sweets and snacks is associated with incident CVD in a sample of the French population, independent of diet quality. The innovative approach to derive empirical DP networks may assist in the identification of food groups that are likely to be consumed together in a population, thereby helping to identify dietary habits to target for the prevention of CVD. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT03335644.

- Hunger shifts attention and attribute weighting in dietary choice. [Journal Article]
- Hunger is a biological drive which can promote unhealthy dietary decisions. Yet, the cognitive mechanisms underlying this effect, and in particular the interactive role of attention and choice processes, remain elusive. To address this gap, we conducted an eye-tracking experiment, in which 70 participants completed a multi-attribute food choice task in hungry and sated states. Confirming our prer…

- Cerebellar stimulation influences performance to a food-related Go/NoGo task. [Journal Article]Appetite. 2025 Oct 01; 214:108200.A
- The impulse for food is a well-rooted adaptive drive that implies not only the energetic sustenance of the organism but also hedonic-rewarding mechanisms. Inhibitory control is closely associated with decision-making which might moderate/mediate food choices/consumption. Growing evidence supports the involvement of the cerebellum in cognitive inhibitory control, and its role in eating and somato-…

- Food addiction severity is associated with decreased functional connectivity and responses to palatable food pictures in brain areas involved in emotion and cognitive control. [Journal Article]Clin Nutr. 2025 Aug; 51:115-125.CN
- CONCLUSIONS: Brain profiles of patients with obesity are related to FA severity. FA severity is associated with impaired cortico-striatal functional connectivity between brain regions involved in motivation, decision-making and inhibitory control. Interindividual variability in brain responses suggests that dedicated therapeutic strategies might be helpful for obese patients with FA.
