- A convergent electron beam approach for small-field irradiation with reduced bremsstrahlung. [Journal Article]Phys Med Biol. 2026 Oct 01. [Online ahead of print]PM
- To investigate whether converging electron beams using quadrupole electromagnets can mitigate fluence loss and bremsstrahlung contamination in small irradiation fields. Approach: A three-stage quadrupole electromagnet system was installed beneath a linear accelerator head to converge 6, 9, 12, and 15 MeV electron beams. Dose distributions, dose rate, and bremsstrahlung contamination were evaluate…

- Characterization and Mitigation of Boundary Sampling Artifacts in Electron Phase Space Generation for Clinical FLASH-RT Deployment. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Boundary sampling artifacts in Geant4-based PHSP generation arise from the degenerate behavior of the fUseSafety step-limitation algorithm when safety = 0 at exact material boundaries, producing incomplete secondary electron equilibration and a systematic energy-loss artifact in the scored particle population that manifests as a proximal shift of the distal dose falloff. A 1 mm downstream offset fully mitigates these artifacts while introducing negligible perturbation to primary beam characteristics, enabling clinical deployment of the resulting applicator-specific PHSP library in the GMV Radiance TPS for FLASH-RT treatment planning. This offset requirement warrants investigation in other Geant4-based frameworks (including TOPAS and GATE) scoring PHSP files at applicator or collimator exit surfaces.

- Accuracy in dose delivery in brachytherapy treatments is a critical component for clinical success and patient safety, requiring a rigorous quality assurance system. The implementation of external dosimetric audits plays a fundamental role in verifying the planned and delivered doses, allowing the identification of discrepancies that could compromise tumor control or increase toxicity in healthy …

- Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography as a Follow-Up Tool for 3D-Printed HDR Surface Brachytherapy of Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Proof-of-Concept Study at Short-Term (Six-Month) Follow-Up. [Journal Article]
- Background/Objectives: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) treated with high-dose-rate (HDR) surface brachytherapy using patient-specific 3D-printed applicators lacks a validated non-invasive follow-up modality capable of resolving microscopic residual disease. Line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC-OCT) provides real-time, cellular resolution, three-dimensional imaging of the …

- Current practices and challenges in inverse planning for gynecologic brachytherapy: insights from a multi-institutional study. [Journal Article]J Radiat Res. 2026 Sep 25. [Online ahead of print]JR
- This study investigated the feasibility and reproducibility of inverse planning (IP) in gynecologic high-dose-rate brachytherapy (BT) across ten institutions (five IP and five manual). Two pre-defined cases (high-risk clinical target volume, CTVHR: 62.8 and 27.4 cm3) included the organs at risk (OARs), a tandem, ovoids, and 8 and 3 interstitial needles, respectively. Each institution generated BT…

- Investigation of TG-43 dose calculation algorithm for volumetric HDR Brachytherapy using Monte Carlo simulation in TOPAS. [Journal Article]Appl Radiat Isot. 2026 Sep 19; 238:112946. [Online ahead of print]AR
- The accuracy of dose calculation algorithms significantly influences brachytherapy treatment outcomes. TG-43 algorithm has been widely adopted due to its simplicity, which has standardized contemporary brachytherapy dose calculations worldwide. However, TG-43's homogeneity assumption potentially compromises clinical treatment accuracy. The present study aimed to investigate TG-43 accuracy against…

- Intraoperative or postoperative radiotherapy boost in high-risk breast cancer: a matched-pair analysis. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: In this matched-pair analysis, an intraoperative low-energy X‑ray boost achieved oncologic outcomes comparable to those of a conventional postoperative EBRT boost in patients undergoing breast-conserving therapy for high-risk early breast cancer. These findings support IORT boost as an effective and well-tolerated alternative that may simplify treatment delivery without compromising long-term oncologic outcomes.
