- Incidence and mortality of severe trauma in South Korea: A nationwide registry-based cohort study, 2016 to 2024. [Journal Article]Medicine (Baltimore). 2026 Oct 02; 105(40):e50983.M
- Severe trauma is a leading cause of mortality worldwide; however, contemporary data on mechanism-specific incidence trends and factors associated with in-hospital mortality remain limited. We conducted a nationwide cohort study using a South Korean severe trauma registry spanning 2016 to 2024. Severe trauma was defined as an Injury Severity Score (ISS) ≥ 16. Annual incidence trends were assessed …

- NS1643 enhances the activity of T1019PfsX38 and Q1070X hERG channels associated with long QT syndrome type 2. [Journal Article]Pflugers Arch. 2026 Oct 02; 478(10).PA
- Type 2 long QT syndrome (LQT2) increases the risk of cardiac arrest and sudden death due to reduced rapid delayed rectifier potassium currents (IKr) in the heart. Caused by loss-of-function genetic variants in the hERG K+ channel, LQT2 might benefit from variant-targeted therapy approaches. T1019PfsX38 and Q1070X are LQT2-causing variants reported in Oman and Saudi Arabia. Although nonsense-media…

- Targeting Distinct Cell Cycle Nodes Overcomes RAS Inhibitor Resistance. [Journal Article]Cancer Res. 2026 Oct 02. [Online ahead of print]CR
- Activating mutations in KRAS drive pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although mutant-selective KRAS inhibitors and pan-RAS inhibitors provide clinical benefits, the development of resistance limits durable responses. Here, transcriptomic and proteomic analyses revealed that, despite effective suppression of mutant KRAS signaling, resistant cells susta…

- Activation of the unfolded protein response via PERK-ATF4 signalling in deoxynivalenol- and PRRSV-co-exposed MARC-145 cells. [Journal Article]J Vet Sci. 2026 Aug 06. [Online ahead of print]JV
- CONCLUSIONS: Ultimately, co-exposure to DON and PRRSV disrupted the intracellular microenvironment in Marc-145 cells by modulating the PERK-ATF4 signaling pathway, accompanied by reducing the ability of host cells to replicate the virus.

- Prehospital management and outcomes of traumatic cardiac arrest in older adults: a French nationwide registry study. [Journal Article]Resusc Plus. 2026 Nov; 32:101486.RP
- CONCLUSIONS: In this large French registry study, older patients with TCA achieved return of spontaneous circulation more often than younger adults but were less likely to survive to 30 days. Age alone should not preclude resuscitative efforts, but a concurrent or precipitating medical cause of arrest should be systematically considered in this population.

- Association of a smartphone-based CPR assistance system with prehospital outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: a pre-post observational study in Bangkok. [Journal Article]Resusc Plus. 2026 Nov; 32:101485.RP
- CONCLUSIONS: The post-implementation period of the MySOS system was associated with a higher probability of ROSC, but not with improved longer-term survival outcomes. These findings should be interpreted cautiously because of the uncontrolled before-after design, residual baseline imbalance, potential temporal confounding, and the absence of patient-level data confirming actual application use. Further prospective studies incorporating direct measures of MySOS activation and utilization are warranted.

- Differences in the rates of bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest resulting in favourable neurological outcomes according to the regional deprivation index. [Journal Article]Resusc Plus. 2026 Nov; 32:101484.RP
- CONCLUSIONS: Although high-deprivation regions had lower BCPR rates, the association between BCPR and favourable neurological outcomes was stronger in high-deprivation regions than in moderate- and low-deprivation regions. Multifaceted interventions are needed to increase BCPR rates in highly deprived regions.

- One cycle of nelarabine given after induction is well tolerated but does not improve outcome in adults with T-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia: Outcome data from the UKALL14 randomized-controlled trial. [Journal Article]Hemasphere. 2026 Oct; 10(10):e70480.H
- UKALL14 (NCT01085617) T-cell arm was a phase 3, randomized-controlled trial. Adults aged 25-65 years were randomized 1:1 at entry to receive standard of care (SOC) or SOC + nelarabine 1.5 g/m[2] (Days 1, 3, and 5) to be administered following second induction. The primary end-point was event-free survival (EFS). From 2011 to 2018, 143 patients were randomly assigned to SOC (N = 75) or SOC + nelar…

- In-hospital cardiac arrest in a resource-limited emergency department in Somalia: Outcomes and priorities for resuscitation system development. [Journal Article]Resusc Plus. 2026 Nov; 32:101483.RP
- CONCLUSIONS: Adult IHCA outcomes were extremely poor in this resource-limited emergency department, with low ROSC and minimal 24-h survival. The findings highlight a high burden of trauma-related arrest, frequent unwitnessed events, incomplete physiological and resuscitation-process documentation, low documented emergency response activation, and low documented CPR initiation. Context-specific strategies focusing on monitoring, early recognition, standardized emergency response activation, CPR training, structured documentation, and post-arrest review are needed to improve resuscitation systems in Somalia.

- High-throughput phenotypic screening identifies the phytochemical melissic acid that mitigates SHED cellular senescence via the ADCY5/cAMP/CREB axis. [Journal Article]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1908181.FP
- Cellular senescence drives aging and age-related diseases, posing a critical barrier to stem cell-based regeneration. While selective elimination of senescent cells (senolysis) remains a theoretically promising strategy, safe natural senotherapeutic agents are limited. Human exfoliated deciduous tooth stem cells (SHED) possess high regenerative potential yet are vulnerable to senescence, compromi…

- CircHIPK3 promotes the progression of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children by binding to STAT3. [Journal Article]Front Pharmacol. 2026; 17:1884978.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings characterize circHIPK3 as a potent oncogenic driver in B-ALL that functions by stabilizing STAT3 via the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. Targeting the circHIPK3/STAT3 axis may represent a potential therapeutic strategy for B-ALL treatment.

- Pathogenic modulators of cellular senescence. [Journal Article]Vavilovskii Zhurnal Genet Selektsii. 2026 Sep; 30(5):713-724.VZ
- Cellular senescence is characterized by irreversible cell-cycle arrest, with cells remaining viable and metabolically active. This state features a proinflammatory senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) that can harm neighboring tissues. Accumulation of senescent cells accelerates age-related physiological decline and associated pathologies. Furthermore, cellular senescence is implicate…

- Gastrointestinal mucormycosis with no classical immunosuppression and the potential for Qat leaves chewing as an unidentified risk factor: a case report. [Case Reports]Front Med (Lausanne). 2026; 13:1901474.FM
- Gastrointestinal mucormycosis is a rare, life-threatening invasive fungal infection that is often diagnosed late because of nonspecific clinical and endoscopic findings. Khat or Qat (Catha edulis) leaves may harbor environmental fungi, including Mucor species, and chronic chewing may contribute to gastrointestinal mucosal injury. However, a possible association between Qat use and gastrointestina…
