  • AI-assisted forensic odontology: Advances in automated human identification and digital dental evidence. [Review]
Leg Med (Tokyo). 2026 Oct 07; 87:103023. [Online ahead of print]Patel HJ, Prathiba V, … Vinod Prabhu VLM
  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is highly recommended used in odontology to make dental-image interpretation more automated and aid in human identification. This critical review discusses the recent evidence of the ante-mortem and post-mortem radiographic matching, tooth detection and numbering, dental-age estimation, biological-sex estimation, bite-mark analysis, cheiloscopy, palatal-rugae comparis…
  • Germany's Epidemiological Data on Cleft Lip and Palate After the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Accident: A Systematic Literature Review. [Review]
    Epidemiologia (Basel). 2026 Sep 01; 7(5).Molsen CW, Grün P, … Turhani DE
  • CONCLUSIONS: Associations were reported in some more heavily contaminated regions, whereas no statistically significant differences were found in regions affected by lower levels of fallout. One study reported an estimated additional regional exposure of 1.2 mGy in the most heavily contaminated areas. This estimate does not substitute for individual dosimetry and should be interpreted cautiously. Experimental and other sources cited in the review discuss malformation effects at doses of at least 50 mGy. Given the heterogeneous study designs, ecological exposure assessment, inadequate control of confounding, and very low certainty of evidence, the available data do not support establishing a causal relationship between Chernobyl-related exposure and CL/P in Germany.
  • Generation of Human Bioartificial Tissues Using Agarose-Derived Biomaterials. [Review]
    Materials (Basel). 2026 Aug 27; 19(17).Campos F, Chato-Astrain J, … Alaminos MM
  • Agarose is a thermoreversible, highly biocompatible polysaccharide increasingly used in tissue engineering (TE). Its molecular architecture, optical clarity, tunable mechanics, and chemical inertness make agarose hydrogels attractive scaffolds for generating bioartificial tissues by TE. This review summarizes current knowledge on agarose extraction, purification, structural variants, and physicoc…
  • From pixels to precision: a narrative review of AI-driven 3D morphological analysis and digital twinning in alveolar cleft management. [Review]
    Transl Pediatr. 2026 Jul 31; 15(7):287.Yang Z, Qian H, … Huang QTP
  • CONCLUSIONS: AI holds significant potential for applications in 3D image analysis, quantitative evaluation, and surgical planning of alveolar clefts, but it is currently hindered by several challenges, such as limited generalizability of models, lack of interpretability, and privacy concerns. Solutions to these problems include advancing towards multicenter standardized databases, federated learning, and model efficiency. The future of alveolar cleft management is expected to be improved with the use of generative AI and digital twins throughout their lifespan, in a personalized way.
  • Deep-learning-based assessment of postoperative nasolabial morphology in unilateral cleft lip repair. [Journal Article]
    Ann Anat. 2026 Oct; 268:153350.Šimánek P, Keil C, … Buckova MAA
  • CONCLUSIONS: The proposed framework enables automated and observer-independent assessment of postoperative nasolabial morphology following UCLP repair. By integrating anatomy-informed landmark analysis with AI-driven morphometric evaluation, the method provides a scalable tool for retrospective outcome analysis and standardized comparison of surgical results in craniofacial surgery.
