- Current strategies for controlling gastrointestinal nematodes of pigs in Europe. [Review]Parasit Vectors. 2026 Oct 14; 19(1).PV
- Gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) remain an often-underestimated challenge in European pig production, affecting animal health, performance, and economic outcomes. The predominant species, Ascaris (A.) suum, Oesophagostomum (O.) spp., and Trichuris (T.) suis, impair growth, feed efficiency, and carcass quality, whilst also contributing to reproductive losses and liver condemnation. Moreover, GIN c…

- Large esophageal varices predict hepatocellular carcinoma in newly diagnosed cirrhosis: insights from machine learning and propensity score analysis. [Journal Article]Ann Hepatol. 2026 Oct 11; :102460. [Online ahead of print]AH
- CONCLUSIONS: Large esophageal varices independently predict HCC in cACLD, reflecting severe portal hypertension and a pro-tumorigenic milieu, and should inform improved surveillance and preventive strategies targeting vascular and fibrotic pathways.

- Epidemiology of helminth infections in adults in rural rainforest communities of the Nkam-Wouri River Basin, Littoral Region of Cameroon: Implications for NTDs elimination using preventive chemotherapies. [Journal Article]PLoS Negl Trop Dis. 2026 Oct 09; 20(10):e0014780. [Online ahead of print]PN
- CONCLUSIONS: Adult helminth infections pose a public health risk and may serve as transmission reservoirs in child-centred programs. Monitoring and including adults in preventive chemotherapy programs, promoting regular deworming and awareness and using a multi-parasite, multi-pathway strategy will strengthen control and elimination efforts in persistently endemic areas.

- Stratifying Cardiovascular Risk in Patients With HCC Receiving Atezolizumab/Bevacizumab: A Comparison of ESC and CARDIOSOR Scores. [Multicenter Study]
- CONCLUSIONS: Cardiovascular adverse events were uncommon overall, but their incidence was not negligible in patients in high-risk subgroups. Risk scores may help identify vulnerable subgroups and support patient-tailored treatment strategies, including consideration of bevacizumab-free regimens in selected cases.

- Factors associated with the fertility of the helminth parasite Ascaris lumbricoides: an exploratory study in a rural Venezuelan community. [Journal Article]
- The helminth parasite Ascaris lumbricoides remains a major global health burden, yet factors influencing its fertility and infection intensity are not fully understood. This cross-sectional study explored associations between host characteristics, worm biometrics, and parasite reproductive output in a rural Venezuelan community. Complete fecal evacuations were collected from 128 participants (57%…

- Adult Ascaris suum roundworms and their antigens modulate the porcine intestinal microbiome and metabolome. [Journal Article]
- The porcine roundworm, Ascaris suum, affects host intestinal physiology, microbiota composition and metabolic profiles. To better understand the mediators of these alterations, six pigs each were experimentally exposed to (i) 30 adult roundworms via gastric tube, or (ii) received injections into the duodenum of A. suum total excretory-secretory (ES) antigens, ES antigens secreted exclusively from…

- Gut resilience and clinical homeostasis following administration of neomycin and albendazole in soil-transmitted helminth-infected adults living in Lambaréné, Gabon. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Broad-spectrum antibiotic-induced changes in laying of STH helminth eggs in STH-infected adults, which occurred at the peak of the drug concentration observed in the blood, corresponding to a high availability in the gut. These changes support that the antibiotic-induced changes were transient and did not induce occurrence of clinical peripheral changes. The local resilience of the gut translated into peripheral-maintained homeostasis.

- Association of Parasitic Infections and Neurotropic Vitamins With Developmental Delay in Children With Severe Acute Malnutrition in Datia District, Madhya Pradesh: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study. [Journal Article]
- Background and objective Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) remains a significant health challenge among children under five in India and is often complicated by parasitic infestations and deficiencies of neurotropic vitamins. These factors may contribute to developmental delay. This study assessed the association between parasitic infestations and neurotropic vitamin deficiencies with developmental…

- Soil-transmitted helminthiasis prevalence and infection intensity among school-going children in Timor-Leste after the prolonged interruption of deworming: a cross-sectional survey (2025). [Journal Article]
- Timor-Leste reduced soil-transmitted helminth (STH) prevalence from 29% to 18% by 2020 through mass drug administration (MDA) in 2015-2019. School-based deworming was interrupted for nearly four years during the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed in 2022 in 3 municipalities and nationwide in 2024. We aimed to estimate STH prevalence, geographical distribution and associated factors following the re-in…

- Isolation and Structural Characterization of Refined Proanthocyanidin Fractions Reveal Polymerization and Prodelphinidin Ratio as Major Contributors to Antiparasitic Activity. [Journal Article]
- Proanthocyanidins are a highly bioactive group of plant-specialized metabolites. The aim of this study was to investigate the antiparasitic activity of a comprehensive set of highly purified and characterized proanthocyanidin fractions with versatile procyanidin/prodelphinidin ratios, mean degrees of polymerization, and galloyl contents. In total, 111 characterized fractions from 11 plant species…

- Characterizing the role of Tau Tubulin Kinase 8.1 and 8.2 in C. elegans Spermatozoan motility. [Journal Article]Dev Biol. 2026 Sep 29; 540:134-150. [Online ahead of print]DB
- Cell motility is essential for processes such as immune responses, wound healing, and fertilization. Caenorhabditis elegans is an excellent model for studying sperm motility, due to the worm's transparency and high sperm production. C. elegans amoeboid sperm move by extending and retracting pseudopods, which are powered internally by the dynamic polymerization and depolymerization of the nematode…

- A Paired-Marker Framework for Interpreting Anti-Ascaris lumbricoides IgG Serology and Copromicroscopy: A Cross-Sectional Study in Almaty and the Almaty Region, Kazakhstan. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Serology and copromicroscopy showed a high association, but they are not interchangeable. The paired-marker paradigm clarified concordant and discordant patterns while retaining IgG as a marker of past or ongoing immune exposure and stool eggs as markers of shedding at the time of sampling. High inter-assay agreement suggests analytical consistency within this serum panel, but does not imply diagnostic accuracy for active ascariasis.
