  • [33 years of pacemaker longevity-an unusual case]. [Journal Article]
Herzschrittmacherther Elektrophysiol. 2026 Aug 11. [Online ahead of print]Koval M, Kyashif T, Doenst THE
  • We report on an 86-year-old patient whose unipolar single-chamber pacemaker (Vitatron Ceryx 623), implanted in 1991 due to sinus node arrest, had been continuously active for 33 years without any replacement of the pacemaker unit. No routine outpatient check-up had been carried out for over a decade. The ECG revealed asynchronous ventricular pacing (VOO) at a fixed rate of 50/min, consistent with…
  • Underrecognized Interaction Between PICO Dressings and Pacemakers: A Case From the ICU. [Journal Article]
Case Rep Anesthesiol. 2026; 2026:2189554.Caldecott R, Laffey JCR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Magnet-containing medical equipment placed near a cardiac implantable electronic device can trigger magnet-mode pacing. The risk depends on the position of the magnet-bearing component, not on the wound site. An unexplained change in a paced rate should prompt early consideration of a nearby magnetic source, because the remedy may be immediate and at the bedside.
  • Medical Students' Experiences With an Integrated Surgical Suturing Training Module Using Simulation Models and Asynchronous Videos: Interpretive Qualitative Study. [Journal Article]
JMIR Med Educ. 2026 Jul 09; 12:e90563.Herrera Alcaíno Á, Vade Martínez C, … Riquelme Bahamondes CJM
  • CONCLUSIONS: The integration of asynchronous instructional videos with simulation-based practice was perceived as a coherent educational strategy that supported students' preparation for procedural training within a demanding clinical context. The findings highlight the potential of asynchronous resources to function as preparatory scaffolding that may enable more efficient use of supervised training time. This study contributes to the qualitative understanding of how integrated digital and simulation-based approaches are experienced in surgical internships, supporting their consideration in curriculum design while emphasizing the need for careful implementation and contextual adaptation.
  • Genetic recombination shapes complex hybrid effects across the pig genome. [Journal Article]
Natl Sci Rev. 2026 Jul; 13(13):nwag322.Xie HB, Huang ZQ, … Zhang YPNS
  • Genome and phenotype evolution during hybridization has been a central topic in evolutionary biology, yet the genetic mechanism underlying the hybrid effect variation remain elusive. Here we use the pig as a model and quantify hybrid effects by measuring the phenotypic difference between homozygotes and heterozygotes across 135 traits in 578 F2 individuals from a Eurasian pig cross population. We…
  • Online decoding of rat self-paced locomotion speed from EEG using recurrent neural networks. [Journal Article]
    J Neural Eng. 2026 Jul 08; 23(4).de Miguel A, Totah N, Maoz UJN
  • Objective.Accurate and reliable neural decoding of locomotion holds promise for advancing clinical applications such as rehabilitation and prosthetic control, as well as for understanding neural correlates of action. Recent studies have demonstrated successful decoding of locomotion kinematics across species in motorized treadmill settings. However, efforts to decode locomotion speed directly and…
  • Implementation of Emotional Connection Training in Pediatric Primary Care: Mixed Methods Study. [Journal Article]
JMIR Med Educ. 2026 Jun 16; 12:e81250.Erickson E, Amati JB, … Sperling JJM
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this evaluation of a training module designed to introduce pediatric practitioners to ERH and emotional connection, acceptability among participants was found to be high, with most responders reporting it as valuable and reporting they would recommend it. Statistically significant impact was noted in both perceptions of the importance of information about emotional connection and perceived knowledge acquisition. Feasibility of widespread implementation with voluntary participation, as here, was relatively low, with only a minority completing the module. Critically, Reach Out and Read's commitment to iterative creation, validation, and eventual delivery of ERH training creates a scalable avenue for wide-scale implementation, given the organization's presence in >6500 clinics across the 50 states.
  • In Vitro Assessment of 3T MRI Effects on Non-3T-Compatible Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices. [Journal Article]
    J Cardiovasc Electrophysiol. 2026 Aug; 37(8):1664-1674.Fukuoka Y, Sakurai Y, … Kato RJC
  • CONCLUSIONS: In direct in vitro 3T MRI exposure experiments involving non-3T MRI CIEDs, some pacemakers approaching ERI demonstrated an increased risk of telemetry failure or reset, and those with MRI mode turned off showed non-negligible mode switching. However, the majority of devices did not exhibit severe electrical malfunctions necessitating replacement in a clinical setting, and no instances of device reset or telemetry failure were observed in ICDs.
