- Both Knotless and Traditional Knot-Tying Suture Anchors Result in Favorable Clinical Outcomes in the Treatment of Acetabular Labral Tears: A Systematic Review. [Review]Arthrosc Sports Med Rehabil. 2026 Sep 28; :e70092. [Online ahead of print]AS
- CONCLUSIONS: Knotless and knot-tying suture anchors are both safe and effective options for hip labral repairs with anticipated improvement in patient-reported outcomes regardless of the anchor type used. Across studies reporting patient-level thresholds, a high proportion of patients achieved minimal clinically important difference and patient acceptable symptom state, supporting the clinical relevance of postoperative improvement in both constructs. There were no significant differences in revision rates or conversion to total hip arthroplasty and complications are low in both groups.

- Activated platelet rich plasma modulates the proliferation, apoptosis and matrix synthesis driven by growth factors in osteoarthritic chondrocytes: an in vitro study. [Journal Article]Front Bioeng Biotechnol. 2026; 14:1940844.FB
- Activated platelet-rich plasma (aPRP) reduces inflammation and promotes regeneration in osteoarthritic knee joints. It may exert therapeutic effects on osteoarthritic chondrocytes (OACs) compared with healthy chondrocytes (HCs) by promoting cell proliferation, reducing autophagy-related vesicles and inhibiting apoptosis through modulation of intracellular signaling pathways. The aim of this study…

- Performance adaptations to speed, agility, and quickness training in team-sport athletes: a systematic review and three-level meta-analysis. [Systematic Review]Front Physiol. 2026; 17:1947365.FP
- CONCLUSIONS: Pooled average effects suggest that SAQ training may improve sprint, agility, and power performance in team-sport athletes, with the largest estimate observed for agility. Nevertheless, the inclusion of the null in all 95% PIs and the low-to-very-low certainty of evidence indicate uncertainty across training contexts and warrant cautious interpretation. SAQ training may therefore be considered one component of a comprehensive conditioning programme tailored to sport-specific demands. Further adequately powered randomised controlled trials with comprehensive training-dose reporting are needed.

- A systematic and critical review of measurement scales for evaluating gastrointestinal symptoms during exercise. [Systematic Review]J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 2026 Dec 30; 23(1):2735563.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: The current review highlights substantial heterogeneity in GIS measurement during exercise and a paucity of evidence on validity and reliability. In addition to identifying current methodological limitations, the current review provides practical recommendations to support improved GIS assessment and reporting in exercise settings. The development of a standardized, fully validated exercise-specific GIS scale remains a priority, as current tools range from those with limited (partial) psychometric evaluation to those with no formal validation evidence, thereby limiting consistency, reliability, and comparability across studies and in practice.

- Mitochondrial membrane lipid cardiolipin controls fiber-type adaptations in aging muscle via estrogen-related receptor γ. [Journal Article]Nat Aging. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]NA
- Aging paradoxically leads to both a decline in skeletal muscle mitochondrial function and a shift in muscle composition that favors fibers rich in mitochondria. Yet the biological rationale and mechanism underlying this phenomenon remain largely unknown. Here we show that synthesis of the mitochondrial membrane lipid, cardiolipin, causally links mitochondrial dysfunction to fiber-type adaptations…

- Toward a minimal amino acid alphabet for protein design. [Journal Article]FEBS J. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]FJ
- While proteins are built from 20 canonical amino acids, it is interesting to explore whether proteins can be formed from significantly reduced amino acid alphabets. Our bioinformatics survey of UniProt (more than 250 m sequences) revealed that proteins composed of reduced amino acid alphabets are extremely rare among existing proteins. Next, we used computational protein design to design proteins…

- The Bordetella Effector BteA Interacts With BopN Through Its C-Terminal Region, Thereby Controlling Its Translocation Into Host Cells. [Journal Article]Microbiol Immunol. 2026 Sep 29. [Online ahead of print]MI
- BteA is a cytotoxic effector translocated into host cells via the type III secretion system (T3SS) of Bordetella. The T3SS gatekeeper protein BopN controls BteA translocation, yet the BteA region mediating this regulation remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate that BteA interacts with BopN through its C-terminal region, and this interaction is required for efficient translocation into host cells. …

- [Regional distribution of depressive disorders among adults in Bavaria: A multivariable analysis of socioeconomic, settlement-structural and environmental factors]. [Journal Article]Gesundheitswesen. 2026 Sep 28. [Online ahead of print]G
- CONCLUSIONS: Socioeconomic and environmental factors were associated with the rate of depressive disorders documented in outpatient care at the regional level in Bavaria. To reduce regional inequalities, particular attention should be given to socioeconomically deprived districts. Further small-area analyses of other environmental areas as well as their characteristics are necessary for targeted structural preventive measures.
