- Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) spectacle lenses versus 0.01% atropine for myopia control: Two-year randomised trial in children from Central Europe. [Journal Article]J Optom. 2026 Oct 09; :100635. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: In this study, DIMS lenses were associated with greater efficacy than 0.01% atropine in reducing myopia progression, particularly in children aged 6-11 years. Differences in adherence between the interventions should be considered when interpreting these findings. DIMS lenses may represent an effective option for myopia control in European populations.

- Concurrent salivation and lacrimation after superior and inferior salivatory nuclei glutamate/NMDA receptor excitation in the rat. [Journal Article]Neuroscience. 2026 Oct 09. [Online ahead of print]N
- Recently it has been suggested that the somas of the lacrimal nucleus and salivatory nuclei are, to a certain extent, anatomically intermingled all along the parvocellular reticular formation. The objective of this study was to investigate, using a physiological approach, the topographical relationship between salivatory and lacrimal cells. To this end the cell bodies of the superior (SSN) and in…

- Effect of Low-Dose Atropine on Choroidal and Anterior Scleral Thickness in Myopic Egyptian Children: A Randomized Controlled Trial. [Journal Article]Curr Eye Res. 2026 Oct 08; :1-9. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Both low-dose atropine concentrations resulted in short-term choroidal thickening in Egyptian myopic children, with a stronger response in the 0.05% group. No significant changes were observed in anterior segment parameters or intraocular pressure. These findings support a concentration-dependent choroidal mechanism in myopia control.

- Effect of basal forebrain stimulation on regional blood flow and extracellular acetylcholine release in the piriform cortex. [Journal Article]Neuropsychobiology. 2026 Oct 07; :1. [Online ahead of print]N
- CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that stimulation of HDB neurons in the basal forebrain increases regional blood flow in the piriform cortex, accompanied by an increase in ACh release in the same region, and that cholinergic receptor blockade abolishes this blood flow response. Impaired cholinergic input in this region may disrupt hemodynamic regulation, leading to olfactory dysfunction.

- Neuraxial Medication Administration Errors During Anaesthesia and Perioperative Management, Consequences, Contributing Human and Systemic Factors and Their Prevention: A Systematic Review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Level 4 and 5 harm was mainly associated with the administration of antiseptic solutions. The HFACS framework-based analysis suggested multiple modifiable institutional and individual deficiencies. Multidisciplinary improvements of organisational safety procedures, relevant preconditions, and neuraxial clinical practices may help prevent these serious incidents.

- Routine baseline clinical data do not reliably predict poor first-year myopia control with low-dose atropine: a machine-learning benchmarking study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Routinely recorded baseline factors did not provide clinically useful individual-level prediction of the first-year progression category. With this predictor set, observing early on-treatment progression remains the practical way to identify children who may need escalation.

- Essential oil from Piper aduncum L. leaves exhibits analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity in mice. [Journal Article]
- Piper aduncum L. is a medicinal plant whose essential oil is rich in bioactive constituents, particularly dilapiol, and has attracted interest because of its diverse pharmacological properties. However, its anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and antinociceptive activities and the mechanisms potentially underlying these effects remain insufficiently characterized. Therefore, this study investigated t…

- Association of Age and Spherical Equivalent With Differences in Cycloplegic Refractive Effects Between Cyclopentolate and Atropine. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Atropine produced a stronger refractive effect than cyclopentolate in this pediatric cohort. The atropine-cyclopentolate difference was smaller in older patients and in eyes with higher initial SE, supporting consideration of age and baseline refractive status when selecting cycloplegic agents in pediatric patients.

- Effectiveness of 0.02% and 0.04% Atropine Therapy for Myopia Control in Czech Children: The MARS Trial. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Nightly 0.02% and 0.04% atropine reduced axial elongation and myopia progression over 12 months compared with placebo. The trial was not designed or powered to establish equivalence between the active doses; within this sample, no statistically significant difference was detected between them.

- Premyopia Progression and Low-Dose Atropine Intervention in Children with Unilateral Myopia. [Journal Article]Curr Eye Res. 2026 Oct 03; :1-8. [Online ahead of print]CE
- CONCLUSIONS: Untreated myopic eyes showed greater SE progression and AL elongation than their fellow premyopic eyes. 0.01% atropine treatment showed a potential effect in reducing myopic shift and incidence. Meanwhile, the management should be individualized according to baseline refraction and documented progression.

- Centrally administered SGLT2 inhibitor improves gut barrier function through the brain orexin, AMPK, dopamine D2 signaling and the vagal pathway in rats. [Journal Article]Neurosci Res. 2026 Oct 03; 232:105135. [Online ahead of print]NR
- Leaky gut, defined as increased intestinal permeability, has been associated with many diseases. Recent studies suggest the brain is involved in maintaining gut barrier function. Since tofogliflozin, a sodium/glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor acts centrally to increase food intake, and feeding and gut functions are deeply associated, this study aimed to clarify the hypothesis that gut bar…

- Association of atropine use during neonatal intubation with cardiac arrest, severe bradycardia, and other adverse events: a report from NEAR4NEOS. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Atropine use during neonatal TI was not associated with reduced cardiac arrest. Although it reduced severe bradycardia, it was associated with increased desaturation and lower first-attempt success, warranting further study.
