- Reported outcomes for patients following postoperative periprosthetic femoral fractures : a systematic review. [Systematic Review]Bone Joint Res. 2026 Oct 15; 15(10):1236-1247.BJ
- CONCLUSIONS: Outcome reporting after POPFF is heterogeneous, clinician-centred, and frequently undefined, with sparse use of patient-reported outcome measures and health-related quality of life instruments. These findings support the development of a POPFF core outcome set and recommended outcome measurement instruments to standardize reporting and promote patient-centred research.

- Reframing traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury as chronic multisystem disorders: toward integrated, long-term care. [Review]Lancet Neurol. 2026 Nov; 25(11):1025-1038.LN
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI) affect more than 220 million people worldwide and are associated with cardiometabolic, endocrine, neurological, and psychiatric sequelae for years to decades after an acute injury. However, most health systems still treat neurotrauma (TBI and SCI, collectively) as a time-limited event, leaving long-term surveillance of these patients fragm…

- A Prospective Randomized Trial to Assess Early versus Delayed Weight Bearing Following Operatively Treated Ankle Fractures in the United States. [Journal Article]J Orthop Trauma. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]JO
- CONCLUSIONS: Trial findings add to the growing evidence demonstrating the safety of early weight bearing after fixation of bimalleolar and trimalleolar ankle fracture without syndesmotic disruption, a key concern for both clinicians and patients. However, no statistically significant benefit of earlier return-to-work was found.

- Combined Effect of Modified Starches and Inulin on the Technofunctional Properties of Low-Fat Oaxaca Cheese: Optimization by Response Surface Methodology. [Journal Article]J Food Sci. 2026 Oct; 91(10):e71560.JF
- This study aimed to optimize the technofunctional properties of low-fat Oaxaca cheese by incorporating inulin, modified maize starch (MMS), and modified potato starch (MPS), and applying response surface methodology (RSM). A three-factor central composite rotatable design (CCRD) was employed with inulin (X1), MMS (X2), and MPS (X3) as independent variables, resulting in 20 experimental treatments…

- A real-world multicenter study of statins in compensated advanced chronic liver disease on hepatic decompensation and mortality outcomes. [Journal Article]Hepatol Int. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]HI
- CONCLUSIONS: In this large multinational cohort of cACLD patients, statin use was associated with reduced risk of hepatic decompensation and liver-related events, but not all-cause mortality. These findings support a potential benefit for statins in this population.

- Loss of Fmr1 causes subnucleus-specific decreases in dendritic complexity in mediodorsal thalamus. [Journal Article]Brain Struct Funct. 2026 Oct 14; 231(8).BS
- In the mediodorsal thalamus (MD), neurons of the medial (MD-M) and lateral (MD-L) subnuclei project to the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) to control complementary aspects of behavior, with MD-M supporting more of the social/emotional domain and MD-L promoting cognitive functions. Our recent work shows that MD-M and MD-L have differences in hyperpolarization-activated, cyclic nucleotide-gated (HC…

- The integration of artificial intelligence with physical modeling offers a transformative route for accelerating the design of active nanophotonic devices. Here, we present NanoPhotoNet-Lase, a physics-informed neural network (PINN) framework that embeds the electromagnetic and rate equations of lasing directly into its learning process to expedite the design of metasurface nanolasers. By couplin…

- CONCLUSIONS: Use of the PREVENT calculator generates lower ASCVD risk estimates than PCE in transgender women with HIV. Research is needed to determine how best to incorporate gender diversity and intersecting factors into ASCVD risk calculations.

- Integrating Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Testing into a Community-Based Cohort of Latine Young Adults: Patterns and Predictors of Uptake. [Journal Article]Sex Transm Dis. 2026 Oct 14. [Online ahead of print]ST
- CONCLUSIONS: While many tested based on perceived STI risk, uptake fell short of public health recommendations. Low uptake of mail-in testing highlights the need for testing models that better align with Latine young adults' preferences and circumstances. Findings underscore the importance of understanding testing barriers and normalizing STI screening as routine preventive care.

- Symptom Network Analysis in Patients With Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. [Journal Article]Can J Gastroenterol Hepatol. 2026; 2026(1):e5291248.CJ
- CONCLUSIONS: The complex relationship between co-occurring symptoms in PSC organizes into four dominant symptom clusters. FTG and WEA emerged as strongly influential symptoms that consistently were associated with other symptoms. Our analyses emphasize the complex, co-occurring nature of PSC symptoms, identify highly influential symptoms, and highlight the need to develop patient-reported outcome symptom measures to assess changes in these key symptoms in clinical trials and clinical practice.

- Cation-Mediated Interface Engineering Directs Electrogenerated Reactive Oxygen Species Pathways. [Journal Article]Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2026 Oct 14; :e9670818. [Online ahead of print]AC
- Persistent organic contaminants are increasingly accumulating in saline waters, where high ionic strength and complex electrolytes hinder oxidative remediation. Electrogenerated reactive oxygen species (ROS) offer a promising route for pollutant degradation, yet the role of electrolyte cations in controlling ROS pathways remains poorly understood. Although singlet oxygen (1O2) is more persistent …

- Biosimilar uptake policies in Europe: a cross-country mixed-methods policy analysis. [Journal Article]Lancet Reg Health Eur. 2026 Nov; 70:101868.LR
- European countries implemented a range of policies to enhance uptake of biosimilar medicines, which are interchangeable with the originator but usually offer biological therapies at lower cost. However, challenges to biosimilar uptake persist. The study analysed the effectiveness of policies to improve biosimilar uptake.
