- Sources and culture methods for the isolation and cultivation of Coxiella burnetii. [Review]Front Microbiol. 2026; 17:1937451.FM
- Coxiella burnetii, the bacterium responsible for Q fever, is a highly infectious, environmentally resilient, and aerosol-transmissible zoonotic pathogen. While molecular and serological assays are the primary tools for routine diagnosis, isolating viable C. burnetii remains crucial for comprehensive pathogen characterization, including whole-genome sequencing, phenotypic analysis, antimicrobial s…

- Beyond carbon dioxide: decoupling headspace and buffering reveals a bicarbonate requirement for anaerobic gut fungi growth. [Journal Article]Fungal Biol Biotechnol. 2026 Oct 07; 13(1).FB
- CONCLUSIONS: Headspace composition and inorganic carbon availability are key determinants of anaerobic gut fungal cultivation. The results indicate that bicarbonate supports sustained anaerobic gut fungal activity beyond extracellular pH stabilization and cannot be functionally replaced by the tested organic carboxylates. Decoupling gas phase, buffering chemistry, and pH control provides a more interpretable and reproducible cultivation framework for physiological studies and biotechnological application of anaerobic gut fungi.

- Serial in vivo passage of Acanthamoeba lugdunensis is associated with altered transcription and increased blood-brain barrier permeability in mice. [Journal Article]Microb Pathog. 2026 Oct 06; 221:108858. [Online ahead of print]MP
- We examined passage-associated phenotypic and transcriptional changes in the clinical Acanthamoeba lugdunensis keratitis isolate KA/E2 using preplanned serial in vivo passage in C57BL/6 mice. Amoebae were recovered from lung but not brain cultures during the first cycle. Brain cultures yielded lineages P2 and P3 during the second and third cycles, respectively, with significantly greater recovery…

- Transplant of cryopreserved mosquito gut microbiota reveals strain-specific patterns of microbial acquisition and assembly. [Journal Article]
- Mosquitoes are important vectors of human pathogens, and their gut microbiome influences traits such as survival, fecundity, pathogen resistance, insecticide resistance, and vector competence. Manipulating this microbiome offers a promising strategy for reducing mosquito-borne disease. While 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing has revealed global patterns of gut microbial diversity, the factors dri…

- Phycosphere microbiome remodeling and Brevundimonas partnership establishment enhance microalgal nonylphenol tolerance. [Journal Article]J Adv Res. 2026 Oct 05. [Online ahead of print]JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Our findings establish a community-to-strain paradigm for phycosphere microbiome-mediated tolerance of microalgae to NP, deepen our understanding of inter-species cooperation, and provide a basis for designing tailored algae-bacteria consortia for bioremediation.

- Lysine and cadaverine differentially regulate huperzine biosynthesis in axenic gametophyte cultures of Huperzia selago (L.) Bernh. ex Schrank et Mart. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: Precursor supplementation with lysine and cadaverine effectively modulates huperzine biosynthesis in H. selago gametophytes and reveals distinct temporal regulation patterns for HupA and HupB. The results support the view that the lysine-derived entry node represents an important regulatory node within the Lycopodiaceae alkaloid network. Axenic gametophyte cultures therefore provide a tractable experimental system for investigating specialized metabolism in early-diverging vascular plants and for refining strategies for the controlled production of pharmaceutically relevant alkaloids.

- A slow decay to extinction: cold temperatures and reduced microbial complexity prolong the persistence of planktonic Francisella tularensis. [Journal Article]Appl Environ Microbiol. 2026 Sep 29; :e0126126. [Online ahead of print]AE
- Francisella tularensis is a zoonotic pathogen transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals, arthropod vectors, or contaminated environmental sources. Although replication occurs primarily within eukaryotic host cells, persistence outside a host is thought to be critical for long-term maintenance and transmission in natural ecosystems. To better understand persistence in aquatic hab…

- A Pilot Proteomics Analysis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Lacking a Putative Short-Chain Dehydrogenase Rv0148. [Journal Article]
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is an intracellular pathogen that survives in host cells by resisting hostile antimicrobial defenses. However, the molecules and mechanisms that contribute to Mtb's intracellular survival are not fully understood. We have previously reported that Rv0148, a putative short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase, plays a significant role in Mtb stress response and virulence i…

- Skin and Gut Microbiome Features Associated with Resistance to Corynebacterium bovis -Associated Disease in Nude Mice ( Mus musculus ). [Journal Article]bioRxiv. 2026 Sep 17.B
- Corynebacterium bovis is an important opportunistic pathogen of immunodeficient mice and the etiologic agent of Corynebacterium -associated hyperkeratosis (CAH). Although disease severity varies, specific vendor-derived microbiomes have been shown to protect against CAH. Preinoculation with nonpathogenic Corynebacterium amycolatum prior to C. bovis infection has been demonstrated to limit disease…

- Phycospheric bacteria enhance temperature tolerance of Isochrysis zhanjiangensis: Unveiling the key functional member Labrenzia algicola 520. [Journal Article]Bioresour Technol. 2026 Sep 22; 464(Pt B):135924. [Online ahead of print]BT
- Under global climate change, temperature stress constrains the stable large-scale cultivation of microalgae. Here, we evaluated the role of algal-associated bacteria in the temperature tolerance of Isochrysis zhanjiangensis and identified a functional bacterium with application potential. The presence of the associated bacterial community increased the final cell density of I. zhanjiangensis, rea…
